Ok, so by Pigmo and Lopkat standards, Pheckers doesnt quite have the same ring to it. Maybe it should be Phickers? ;)
ANYHOO, after a trip to Ikea, and lots of moving of furniture, our two bedrooms are nearing a state of completion:-

Bedroom 1 originally *clicky* (http://www.boat-drinks.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2592)
Still waiting for kingsize mattress :D

Bedroom 2 currently has a single divan piled ontop of the double bed until we find a new home for it, and get the double mattress from bedroom 1.

Great minds think alike! Is it the malm range from Ikea? Oak? We've wanted it for sometime now but has only been possible this week to puuurchaase! They're well neat and tidy furniture!

Our bed has big gaps at the moment :( A 4ft 6" mattress on a 5ft bed.... = knee injuries to come and plenty of pushing when covers are nicked ;D

Yeah, Malm.

Ours is Beech because we wanted the room to be as light as possible :)

Looks nice, although I think I would keep hitting my knee on the surround.

We have a brown leather bedstead with cream stitching which I love :)

Recently took the master bedroom from dark blue (including the ceiling) a throw back to the goth days to white, I must say I do prefer it, just need to get the floor sanded now :)

Kingsize ftw!! I'm so glad we went for the King. It's SUUUUUCH a comfy bed :D

Oh, and I wanted the Oak but Leon wanted the Beach. We eventually reached a mutual decision and I think Beach was the right choice considering how light our bedroom is... BUT... I would like Oak for units in the lounge. It's more classy IMO :)

Went for an Ikea matress for 2 reasons. Ikea beds are slightly larger than standard beds, so it wouldn't have fitted as well. And it was more or less the same price for a matress from elsewhere so we couldn't see the point searching around when we could just pick up a matress at the same place as the bed.

Not sure what it's called - It's a springy one and it's dark grey. Was one of the cheaper ones because we couldn't afford an expensive one with our budget. Still SOOOOO comfy though :)

HEeeeeeeeYYYYYloooooooo people! I've been away and very busy and not had a chance to post in ages! Sooo.. I thought I'd let you all know what we're doing and that I haven't meant to ignore you all! (still wub woo wots)

Currently... we're digging holes in our garden! YAAAAAAAY! Managed to dig out a place for the veggy patch, and now digging 20m2 out of garden to put a patio down (the wall height we're digging down is probably over half a metre high!) Got a pick axe, spade x2, edger, chisler thingymabob (to knock down wall with a big hammer), sledge hammer and other such fun things!

Pickys done a fair bit of wall demolishing and commenced the hole digging but I've kinda taken over digging now! I thought I would be a complete wuss at it but I'm not!! I've dug a HUuuuuuuuuuGE one! Got some grass turfing to do in a bit though so gonna have to stop digging :( Boo! I am so proud of my hole though! It's huuuuuuuge! Can't wait to show you all pictures of it! I will take photos of it later - already got some footage of picky whacking the wall with a sledge hammer! Tis great fun! Anyone wanna come play (pickers is topless and sweaty girls... and boys ;) ;D )

I'm muddy, dirty, sweaty, hot, probably stinky.... BUT I LOVE IT!

Our holes are going no where at the moment due to study needing to be sorted, hoovering and cleaning to be done and the possibility of rain (boo)

The digging hasn't stopped due to my aching body.... honest! :)
(I feel ooooooold)

I think we're planning to excavate it all ourselves Bijstan :) Couldn't get a digger into our back garden if you tried! It's not that bad... just a bit of elbow grease that's all! Pickys enjoying being manly (ie whacking things with a big hammer and flexing his muscles) and I am getting daily exercise... though it might end up making me look butch! Eak! Watching him topless with a pick axe is fun. (I realised yester I was stood there for ages watching him and singing in my head "You can't work as hard as, never work as hard as, you can't work as hard as, WOOAH as hard as right guard"! :D He wouldn't let me play the diet coke break song though :( Booo!)

Too bad we couldn't get my truck in your back yard.

Put the back tyres in place, apply just enough brakes to hold the front end still, and drop the hammer with it in Drive.

No saying the trenches I dug would be in exactly the right spot, though....

Parents are down this weekend to help us set up the veggie patch !

I will be creating a veggie patch in our garden when we get our house :)

I will be setting up two areas, fruit and veg :)

I will be growing potatoes, onions, spring oinons (scallions), at first and then maybe develop it a bit more and grow other stuff too :)

For the fruit sections I will be starting with strawberries and a Cherry or damson tree, think it'll be cherry tbh I eat them more than damsons :)

If you need any help / advice or places to buy stuff from (cheaper than B&Q etc.) then msn me :) I used to have an alotment with my dad so I know a few good tips and websites to get stuff from (seeds, plants, trees, etc) :)

Patio Update...Finally finished the first stage of digging!! :D

http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/bh01.jpg
You can see were the steps are going to go. They do look like they are going to be pretty wide, but that is also for the width of two border walls.

http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/bh02.jpg
I've bolster marked the wall and removed turf where a second set of steps will be put in. I'm hoping the bottom 2 course of bricks can stay there as footing for the first step.

http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/bh04.jpg
The uber hole thats now complete (I pray its deep enough for a layer of hardcore then sand or cement). I still need to dig border trenches deeper to make the foundations for the retaining walls (at the moment, the thought of this makes me want to cry :'( )

And now heres the "finished" room.
We have no unloaded DVDs and books into the racks, and my drinks cabinet has been restocked.

We still need to sort out where to hang pictures and other trinkets, but the room itself is now done!

http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/l02.jpg

What we are thinking of doing (as the fireplace got a little damaged whilst sitting in the hallway) is making an oak frame for the marble backboard from architrave (probably bull nosed), then having a nice chunky oak shelf. Alternatively, I try and fill the damage to the fireplace, and we paint it a light color.. However, we both now feel that the fireplace is too obtrusive.

The stuff for the patio wall arrived yesterday :D (well, the wall blocks, the mortar mix, the course sand and for bedding the patio, but no slabs yet unfortunately). The lorry managed to hoist it into the front garden from a narrow private drive next to us - though apparently there wasn't enough room to put out the stabilizers and at times the lorry was on two wheels when lifting over the blocks. Anyway - I digress.

We have decided to go for 6 inch blocks rather than a double skin of 4 inch to save time (but oddly, not money) Anyway - these blocks are medium to high density and pretty damn solid!
I spent today dry building the corners to get it straight in my head how the wall will be put together.

http://pheebeh.googlepages.com/wall02.jpg
The foundations were poured weeks ago with my dad's help, and the two of use went mental with a lump and sledge hammer to make our own hardcore using the bricks from the original wall - I cant wait to finally be able to walk on flat ground again!

http://pheebeh.googlepages.com/wall04.jpg
We have decided to make wider steps that go around the corner as how we originally planned it was going to be a fiddle and a half to fit the blocks around 3 corners and actually made the garden look far too enclosed.

Belmit
19-08-2007, 19:03

When the slabs finally arrive, just get them to tip them off the back of the lorry and you'll save yourself the job of smashing them up.

4 days of hard work and the wall is up, steps are built and 4 slabs have gone down :D (walls still need rendering, step risers need painting and I need to fill between the slabs on the steps - incidently, does anyone know how best to do this? use paving grout, or brush in some dry mix sand/cement?)

I have to say that I'm very tired, achy, but on the plus side - feeling pretty buff ;D (though the right side of my back has grown muscle quicker than my left, so I'm all wonky!)

First two images show the state of the patio the night before last, when the wall was finally completed and a step had been constructed

Today we all but finished the patio, however the last slab has had to be left as we didnt have enough slabs! I broke one ages ago and figured I'd get a replacement when the time came, which was today, but the builders merchant are all out of the size we need! BAH!

SO patio is pretty much complete, apart from a half slab. Wednesday I'll finish grouting between the paving so water will run off rather than drain through, then we need to get someone in to render the retaining wall then we can fill with gravel.
Pics will come soon..

After a good 6 months... if not more... we're starting! This means no more mud mounds and untidy bushes!

He's chopped down a tonne of bushes from the front so far - our garden is HUGE! I can see right out onto the road too! Crazy!

*so excited so excited so excited*

The big Brmm brrm machinery arrives tomorrow too (HOORAH!) meaning mahoosive excavation time!

I decided to trot round to the neighbours today and give them the heads up! Bev was loverly about it and very excited! Two other neighbours loved it (their drive way runs up along our front and back garden - so we theoretically have 4 next door neighbours) and then I got to Toni.

Toni is a miserable old ex solicitor who does nothing but complain and be rude! She has been completely and utterly begging for us to remove this HUUUGE hedge up her drive as it's "ghastly" and "unmaintainable". She even knocked on our door at 8-9pm one night after Christmas and instead of a "Merry Christmas" from her... we got a "When are you going to do your driveway?!"

Madness!

So yeh, I tootle over to hers and...:

Me: "HEllLLOO! Toni, I have some good news... The drive way is going to be done over the next few days! Hoorah! So no more hedge for you!"

Miserable-old-bat Toni: "Oh. Oh really? So you're having the hedge removed!"

Me: "Yup, we know you've not liked it and we're taking it back to here" *indicates a point with flailing arms* "and replacing it with a nice neat fence! It's been over 6 months now we've fought for this and _finally_ they're letting us take it away!"

Miserable-now-lemon-soured-pinched-lipped-face-old-bat Toni: "Oh. What a shame. I shall miss it dearly. I do really like the daffodils on the top there. And Gabby (her cat), she will be sad, she does enjoy catching the sloe worms in the hedge there. What a shame." *tuts and shakes head*

Me: *Mouth open, looking very you whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!* Erm but... you... erm...Well... yes... it's going now.... so no more mud on your drive on rainy days or anything! Good isn't it!"

Miserable-now-looking-inquisitive-old-bat Toni: "Hmmm. Would you be putting any plants along? A fence would look awfully bare would it not?"

Me: *attempting not to frown* "Maybe. I have to go and feed biscuits and tea to the builders, if you have any problems" *stalls a bit due to thinking "OH CRAP, she will have problems and she will ask" *ahems* "then erm.. please let me know. I should be in as I'm working from home now." *kicks herself for saying that*

Miserable-old-MOO-PIE Toni: "Oh so you're doing something with yourself now... not working in Sainsburys then?" *snooty look at me*

Me: *clenching fists but smiling insanely* "I still work there but anticipate leaving in a few weeks. I have my own business and work in the evenings doing... erm... other kind of work"

Miserable-nosey-stuck-up-cow-too-good-for-anyone Toni: "Oh really? What's that?"

Me: "Ermm.. the builders need feeding! Will speak to you later! Byyye!"

If I told her Ann Summers she would have beaten me to death with a handbag!

What a stupid moose! Still... she makes me laugh in her uppity ways! ;D

Ages since an update.. first some pics of the mantel piece (solid oak!!) I "floated"...
Before... not to our tastes...
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/fpb4.jpg

during. Having unscrewed the old box, I had to fill some areas in order to "no more nails" on the bullnose architrave that would form the side bits.
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/fpduring.jpg

Now. Much nicer, solid oak architrave, and floating mantel shelf fixed using 5 studs (cut threaded steel bar 10mm) 10cm sunk into the masonry, and 15cm sunk into the wood. I managed to get the holes lined up PERFECTLY (more luck than anything) so that I didn't have to put any grab adhesive in the holes. Means when we move we can take our £80 lump of oak with us - yes its pricey, but we wanted it and couldn't find any better deals for what we wanted. :p

Now the driveway :D

this is somewhat what it started like...
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/drivebegin.jpg

then the digger came and removed some earth and began to remove the side hedge.
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/drive1.jpg

then the digger was nearly done excavating
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/drive2.jpg

then came the edging stones and the hardcore <fnar>..
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/drive3.jpg

Starting to take shape nicely!!!
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/drive4.jpg

And the current state of affairs all tarmac-ed and fenced up - just greenery and tidying to sort out :)

*is proud of the drive*

I helped make it too....

... by providing the tea and fud to Mr Dan Dan the Building Man ;)

Although it is fab it's taken some getting used to going on and off the drive! It's at a bit of a weird angle see... means I tend to fly off the curb as opposed to the lowered bit! Hoping it's added value and paid for itself! I think we're going to look into getting the windows replaced now (when I haz some monies coming in... which currently is taking forever!) as the house is just minus a gazillion in temperature all the time. We try not to use the heating much but I'm sure we're wasting money on it. BoO! So yay! Next project to come!

Mei - don't go round next door (unless it's Bev next door!) Toni will invite you in and you will never come out again! EVER!

She is The Witch. ;D

My recent project which is all but completed...

The hole (cut the plasterboard to shape rather than removing both panels in their entirity), and a bit of bodging of the supports ready to accommodate the cut in bed.
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/study1.jpg

Joists added and reinforced to be more load bearing, then hidden away behind carefully cut and stuck panels :D.
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/study3.jpg

I took to the existing single bed, cut the fabric away, removed the bottom rail so we can store stuff underneath, chopped about 2ft out from the middle section to make it a dwarf bed which when pushed up to the boxed bit makes a full size bed. I also had to raise the board up by another inch so that it was at roughly the same level as the box bit.
http://roger.picton.googlepages.com/study4.jpg

I have started cutting some beading which will frame the corners and shelves and minimise pain if anyone decides to headbut a corner ;), but getting the 45 degree angles so it all fits neatly is time consuming! Also need to go to town with the caulk gun and polyfilla tomorrow.

Plans for the future, replace the thin "cardboard" board that was part of the existing bed with bed slats (which B&Q dont do - I think it'll have to be an ikea jobby when we get the chance to go to Bristol) to bring it even closer in height and increase support for the mattress. but it will do for the time being.

A shock call late this afternoon told us our new windows and doors are ready to be fitted! The people are coming around tomorrow to do it, but as we are moving the front door out a bit to give us an extra foot in the hallway, I had no notice in which to build the new riser (2 courses of bricks) so I had to run down to B&Q and get some bricks and spent from 6 till half 7 building a 2 course wall. Its not the best brickwork in the world by a long stretch, but hopefully it should be alright!!
New doors and windows.. YEY! Plus we also claim the back passage (fnar) as an interior hall when the new back door goes on.. Our house grows over the next two days!!! :D :D :D. will post pics at a suitable future time
