hey all,

I've finally consolidated all our mp3s onto one machine and would like to setup some sort of radio. I installed slimserver the other day but that seems to stop streaming and when I re-start it it plays the same fracking songs again :( It's on a windows box and is streamed over wireless.

Anyone got any other suggestions of software to try which is free (or *cough* free) that I could look at to listen to music elsewhere in the house?

Cheers

share a directory on one machine, browse to it on another, double click the playlist file and listen in Winamp?

Maybe that's too simple. It's how I do it. WTF is the need for a 'media centre'? :)

Streaming to devices that aren't PCs or dont understand Windows shares :)

I agree with you if it's 2 PC's though. What's the kit involved Leo?

essentially XP and OSX :)

I can mount the drive was just trying to get away with simply playing a stream in iTunes, but I'll mount it if that is easiest.

Does iTunes support upnp media servers? :dunno: You'd have other options then.

Is shoutcast / icecast not an option?

I'll have to look, what upnp media server would you suggest?

I'll have a look into shoutcast.

TVersity, not least because the 360 can connect to it. It's fantastic. (Thanks Jen)

I think TVersity is already on there for the 360 :)

Well that's a upnp server (not sure if it breaks any standards compliance somewhere for 360 support though), maybe there's a plugin for iTunes? Save you maintaining 2 separate services then.

Aye. If not, I'd go shoutcast. It's a pig to set up, but when it works, it just works.

Yw :) Good program that, need to use it a bit more soon as I have plans for a redesign of my room and want to do away with my divx dvd player hopefully.
