I've got a large collection of mp3 files, going back quite a few years. Some I ripped myself, some I downloaded but the ID3 tags are a mess.

Is there any way to automate the tidying up of these tags to a common format? I don't mind having to search through album lists to find the right one and then just applying the tags and names, but to have to do it all manually would take approximately 3.87 months, working 8 hours a day (but having a 1 hour lunch break)

I use Tag and Rename myself (http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm), looks similar to The Godfather in terms of functionality :)

The other thing I love about Godfather is that it will move your MP3's into the correct folders for you ... eg. MP3/Artist/Album. You can set this up pretty much any way you want it.

I'll have to dig round for the software I got a while ago. I know one neat feature was it could take the file name and put it into ID3 tag, you just had to tell it what the format was of the filename so it it copy the right info.

That's what Godfather can do. It can take a file or folder name and use it for tags. It can also take the tag names and rename the files.

I use ID3 TagIt myself. Very good program. Either way you can't go wrong, they all have roughly the same features :)
