I'm playing Guild Wars again :o

Gave up on Guild Wars, it keeps crashing out, which is a pain when you're playing an MMO and you can't save :(

Bashing through the achievements in Scene It, not as much fun as it was at the LAN though. Need to get some friends round to play!

I found Fable in Game the other day so I'm giving that a go.

It's quirky but fun so far. Using the scroll wheel as a button is taking some getting used to though.

Over the weekend I've been playing three things - Fifa 09 Ultimate Team, Mass Effect, and the UFC Undisputed Demo.

I haven't played Mass Effect in a while, so decided to give it a quick go to get back into it. I started a new game on Hardcore difficulty with a new character, and it definitely is a decent jump in difficulty. Using cover is a must, as well as using your team effectively. I generally just let them do their own thing on my first playthrough, but I think they'll need to be ordered around more now. Completed Eden Prime and just about to land on the Citadel, so lots of fun to be had shortly there.

The UFC Demo is absolutely awesome. The game was only slightly on my radar before playing it, but it's now jumped to a must have game. The fight mechanics are excellent, with controls that are initially confusing (for the ground game at least), but after going through the tutorial and a few fights, they start to become more natural. It's the first fighting game I've ever played that have implemented flash knockouts perfectly. On several occasions I've caught my opponent with a knee or kick to the head as he was moving into it, knocking them straight out. Likewise, I've been on the wrong end of a few of them, especially on the harder difficulties where the AI will punish you for any loose attacks. The career mode sounds excellent as well, with a living, breathing organisation going on around you. I'm really looking forward to this now.

Fifa09 Ultimate Team is still as addictive as crack. Nothing more needs to be said there :D

My last playthrough of ME was on hardcore with an biotic, a few levels in I found it quite easy, as I could lift and throw everyone around so they couldn't fire back :D

I'll have to have another run through mass effect. I'm just starting to play Fallout 3 again. Is it worth getting the DLC early on or waiting till I'm quite away through the game?

Davey_Pitch
27-04-2009, 13:58
If you get the DLC now all it does is add a couple of new quests to your PIP-Boy. It's completely up to you when you do those quests, assuming you do them at all. Neither is very long though I would probably suggest you are a skilled fighter before you attempt Operation Anchorage as it's fighting all the way, so if you're a rubbish shot you'll struggle through it.

Edit: Oh, and make sure you have plenty of room in your inventory before attempting either one, as you'll come back with lots of loot from both of them.

Secret Service on the 360 at the moment....bad bad game, but a good challenge. Enemies on the hardest difficulty go down in 5-6 shots....but so do you. You're on your own 90% of the game, and there's usually about 5-6 enemies per shhot-out, which is always fun. It does have auto-aim though, which is both good and bad, as headshots are easy....but not when you track the wrong guy.

Most of the levels are the same, infact, 4 of them iirc take place in one big long tunnel, with seemingly nothing different about them. However, if it were turned into one level, it'd be about 2 hours long.

Would probably stay away from this unless you want points.

*phew*

Couple of real toughies at the end. Onto the DLC!

I'm really impressed. I ran out of steam at about 115 jiggies and I really ought to go back and get the last few...

I'm tidying up the last few achievements on Guitar Hero: Aerosmith I'm struggling on Back in the Saddle on expert as the solo goes on forever, though I did get to 98% so I will do it.

I picked up Madagascar 2 which I'm playing with my little girl. It's as expected and fun enough.

When I get some time without the kids I'll hit Resident Evil 5 again. I'm back playing solo again as I just can't predict when I'm going to find time to play (Sorry Nokkon). I did get past chapter 3 earlier and haven't enough superlatives to throw at it atm.

Yes, I got Connect 4 for free; part of Family Game Night. I'm stuck with 170 (will be 200 soon)/1400 on my gamertag for ever and well, what can I say: it's connect 4.

edit: It's my birthday next week and I'm thinking about getting: http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/9467302/Guitar-Hero-World-Tour-Xbox-360-Wireless-Drum-Kit-Controller/Product.html What do people think is the best plastic drum kit? FYI - The trophy I left was Saucer of Peril - I applaud anyone who can TT that b*****d. Flower Shower Power was fine I found (torpediles, Kaz and well times lasers!), and there's some good replays to help with Germ Warfare :)

Never used it, but heard it's very good. Drums on Rock Band are great fun though and fun > realism, after all, if it wasn't, we'd never play games.

Karl, I noticed Pure in your sig, how are you finding it? I quite liked the demo but haven't gotten around to playing it since it came out. Is it any good?

Daz

Little tip for the Banjo players - I set a 1 person league running last night, aiming for the 'Premier League!' achievement (Play in and complete a marathon multiplayer game league) - mostly letting it play on it's own, just leaving the pad on play and charge. However when I came back later, I'd somehow unlocked 'Are You Trophy Thomas?' (Win 20 Xbox LIVE ranked multiplayer games in any mode) - despite not even being an Xbox Live league, let alone a ranked one.

Turns out it's a glitch (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=138660) caused by a recent patch. Considering how difficult it is to start multiplayer games up it may be worth getting it sneakily while you can. Oh the morality!

It is quite good, graphically it's stunning but after playing something like Motorstorm it feels too one dimensional featuring only quad-bikes. As a racing game it's actually harder than most and is more challenging than I was expecting with one of the most bizarre difficulty curves I've ever experienced - I blitzed the first series winning all 4 races with ease, next series my 4 positions are 6th, 13th, 9th, 16th! So that can be off putting.

I think it would be best to play it now before Fuel though Davey because Fuel looks like it could be fantastic. 5,000 square miles of landscape, open ended, any route you want, multiple vehicle types, and stunning graphics. Of course, it could fall flat on its face, but it certainly looks to offer more variation than Pure.

Completed the Beneath the Ashes DLC for Tomb Raider Underworld earlier.
Good fun :) Only took me around 2hrs to complete it (including collecting the treasures and relic) but it was an enjoyable 2hrs.
It's quite easily summed up, if you enjoy Tomb Raider and want more then this is ideal, otherwise if you don't like TR......well why have you got TR Underworld anyhow? :p

Worth 800 points? Depends how much you want more Tomb Raider really! I probably wouldn't have bought it admittedly but I won it so that was an easy decision.

Just started playing Tomb Raider Underworld. Loved the first one on Xbox360 (Legend) and although I'm not expecting this to come close to having the same level of enjoyment, I was thoroughly impressed with the first level, particularly the second half to it. At times it looked and moved very similar to Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, which is a good thing - very fluid. The major downside is the camera, it whips past before you're able to do anything and the automatic elements of it often override your manual control if you're turning around, which is very annoying.

Once it's complete I have both DLC's to play, the first, Beneath the Ashes I won after AceyBongo's gave out a code and I won on Twitter, the second, Lara's Shadow I bought from the Marketplace. So I'm hoping to enjoy it! I plan on replaying it all through to get all the treasures I've missed too using a guide as I've opted not to do it first time through.

Also continuing my love affair with Fifa 09: Ultimate Team which just continues to draw me in and is becoming one of my favourite game additions of all time, it really is superb. I now have my squad settled and only need to train the last 1/3rd of my team to 99 ratings, although I do plan on getting every player to 99 in everything, which is some challenge, and then getting them all formation cards, although playing 4-4-2 it WILL be pricey, but I guess if I have nothing else to buy then it's not too bad. Also about 22-23% through my collection.

I've also recently dabbled in Pure on Xbox360 and also Kung Fu Panda which is actually more likeable than I first imagined. I've also gone back to playing Project Gotham Racing 4 after borrowing it from our very own Psymonkee, I've done the first race of the DLC on Platinum, but the second one has my baffled as my Supra simply isn't quick enough! Other than that, I started Skate 2 after picking it up for me and my friend (for his Birthday), but that's going to wait for now as I have so much to play. I need to remain focused.

I'm also planning to play a little less and work a little more and really push for getting a 3D job as sitting around all day and gaming has gotten me so agitated and bored. So 3D Studio Max has been booted up a few times and a few additions here and there to my WIP Environment has been made and I plan on banging out a few other things to add to my portfolio.

Race Driver Pro.
Was on the shelf for 24.99 & as I wandered along there was 3 other copys for 39.99, I turned around & picked up the 24.99 one & took it to the counter, The bloke said "Crap I was s'pose to take this off the Special today" ;D
To late I said & gave him the cash. :p

Anyway.
If you are into your drivers like I am/have been then it's well worth a purchase if you can get it for 25 quid or less, Definately Not worth a 40 quid purchase though.
Drives quite well overall but not enough feel for me & just not gritty enough. (If that makes sense). You do have to drive on Pro to get something that resembles a SIM as any lesser level is just plain Arcade. On Pro though the Ai are having a good go at me & I've found it quite a challenge  I'll have to give a better review once the game has been played through as like I say you have to Master the Pro & then with all the cars you unlock things get better every time. The last couple of unlocks have really made a difference to what I think of the game & if I had only played it for the first few unlocks & not on Pro I would be slagging this game off as an Arcade game. On Pro with decent cars I think this game may have a chance, I'll let you know in time.

Davey_Pitch
01-05-2009, 09:29
I reviewed that for XboxGameZone, and to be honest wasn't overly taken with it. It's a decent driving experience, but for a whole package Forza 2 blows it out of the water. Race Pro just has none of the extras that I'd like in a racing game, it's very plain and straightforward and I wasn't very keen on how the career was laid out. I prefer more choice in what races I do and what cars I drive.

Well, that's Nuts and Bolts @ 1250. Still only 59 of 60 unlocked though, as there's a 0 point achievement for bringing a stop'swap, which I cant do unless I buy the original Banjo Kazooie or Banjo Tooie on arcade. May well get Tooie as I never played it - cant remember ever finishing Kazooie but you can unlock themes and pics in Tooie, which justifies 1200 points a bit better.

Does anyone have any preference between the original and the sequel, if I do buy?

NokkonWud

The first one is supposed to be better, but I think a lot of that's to do with the fact it was the first and the second was more of the same.

At the moment I'm bouncing around between a few. I'm currently whoring NBA Live 09, just simulating the seasons before playing the matches later. If anyone still has this and fancies some online whoring at some point let me know!

I've also gone back to Tiger Woods 09, which I love. Won all 4 majors in the season mode, so only a few tournaments left to do there before I launch myself into the Tiger Challenge mode.

Still playing Mass Effect, about 10 hours into my 2nd playthrough now. Being very thorough as I'm going into every system and exploring every planet I can land on, finding side quests as I go. It'll be more time consuming than before but it'll mean I shouldn't miss the achievements for completing the majority of the game.

In about 20 mins I'll be playing WWE Legends of Wrestlemania. Had this to review over a week and have never seemed to find the time to put a few hours into it. Lynnie has gone shopping with her mum so that should give me 3-4 hours to put into it and have a good solid session on it.

Oh, and as usual, Fifa 09 UT.

For the life of me I couldn't get that to work, grenades always got me and the checkpoint just never came because I was always in danger.

In the end I claymore'd teh area in front of the bumper cars and stayed behind it sniping, then after the checkpoint, there's a forked tree right on the very boundary of the level which keeps you pretty safe.

The trouble with that section is it's so much harder than any other section. The enemies just get so much better. They are shooting you the very millisecond you come round the corner. The reactions are absurd.

After cod2/4 and then waw on vet I will never play another Cod campaign again. It annoyes me they can't come up with a better system that constant re-spawning until you hit an imaginary line.

I think if I was playing it on PC I'd have a chance, but you don't have a chance to line up the controller for the shot before you're full of lead.

Help appreciated for this bit:

I'm up to the corridor where there are two missile silos either side, where you have to get into a silo, down a side corridor, into another silo and then up to the blast door.

The problem is getting into the side silos, as you enter one and you get shot in the back from the other one. If I'm lucky I can flash one and n00b-t00b the other, but then once I'm in I'm always recovering from a wound and then get shot by the next spawning guy. How on earth do I do it?

Daz

Lie on the ground, get on the far left, cap the guy in the right silo, then do the reverse. Move very slowly, pixel by pixel until you can see them, then off them.

I got into the silo's a couple of times using the flash bangs but found the same - too injured to stand a chance against the guys in there. It's still difficult even after you get in there, there are guys shooting at you from the adjacent silo, and they have good aim!

Thanks Daz, that's helping me get into the silo, just need to slog though the corridor to the next silo. This game will be the end of me.

COD:WAr it's fricking brilliant. Nice to be back in ww2 setting. much prefer it to modern warfare games.

It's nowhere near as good a game. So sick of World War 2 now.

I wont even buy the new modern warfare to excuse myself the frustration ;D

No fighting in the war room isn't that difficult. I actually breezed through it twice and still remain baffled as to why people think it's so tricky. The Silo section is a little bit harder, but one route is much easier than the other (going left IIRC). For me Mile High Club is easily the hardest section on that game, the ferris wheel is second hardest. Nothing else was overly difficult and didn't make me want to tear my hair out like the Silo level on CoD2.

It's nowhere near as good a game. So sick of World War 2 now.

Waw for me is a much better campaign that COD4 purely because there are only two instances of contant re-spawn til you get to the invisible line. One of the jap trench levels where you have to get to a bridge and the 4 guns you have to take out outside the reistag.

Other than that you can take out enemies eventually. 4 was stupid at times because you would have enemies respawn before you could get to the invisible line. Like the level you search for al asard in the houses. You call in the heli it blows everyone up and they just re-spawn again inside before you get to the door.

I just adopted a tactic one you put your leg in a doorway and run away. The invisible line was crossed and your team run in. Gay.

COD would work far better with directable AI like in R6.

I'm more interested in the next GRAW rather than another COD.

That level was a PITA. One comedy instance of this is the ending, where troops spawn in the moving trucks!

Thanks to my good friend Leo, since Sunday night I have been playing Resident Evil 5. After a bit of co-op with him on Sunday, I restarted it yesterday from scratch, and I'm currently up to chapter 4-2. It's both better and worse than Resi 4 in equal amounts so far. I love the fact there's no annoying person like Ashley that I always have to protect. I love the fact that the AI is smart enough to reload all it's weapons inbetween battles, assuming it's low on ammo. I'm not enjoying the story as much as Resi 4, and I'm not enjoying the micromanagement of the items I pick up. Only having 9 slots to carry items is annoying, especially when buying and equipping armour takes up a slot. With the relative lack of ammo I try to carry 4 weapons with me, and I'm invariably struggling to pick ammo up as I'm out of room. I miss the briefcase system of Resi 4. Still, it's very enjoyable and it's certainly something I'll be picking up myself in the future as I'll probably aim for the full 1000 on it in the end which will require 3 playthroughs as I started on normal difficulty.

Hmmm, RE5 and the new silent hill sounds interesting. I've given up with Mirrors Edge after spending a couple of hours stuck on the same point. I may get it again another time when its in the bargain bin. Some good sections and I liked the concept which is why I kept trying to continue.

The part that really annoyed me was the forced combat sections. It is rather clunky around the combat areas.

Resident Evil 5 finished last night. Bar a final boss fight which went on a little too long, it was incredibly enjoyable all the way through. It's not the scary game it once was, but it does make you nervous at times as you're never given an over-abundance of ammo so you're always wary that around the corner will be a group of enemies who will take out your remaining ammo reserves leaving you vulnerable. Not going to be a problem for me any more though, as I've unlocked unlimited ammo for my Magnum and Scorpion machine gun, which will make the next playthrough a breeze. I re-did the first level on Veteran last night after finishing it, and with those weapons Sheva and I destroyed everyone very easily. At least in the 2nd playthrough I can pick up all the treasures and BSAA emblems I missed the first time :)

Haly

RacePro.
Bought for 25 quid special buy left on the shelf to long & grabbed by me.
Games getting pretty good now I am playing it on Pro & have worked up to some decent POWERRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Not been online yet though so comments only on Single player, Contact don't seem to much of a problem with the other cars but contact with the wall can have some dodgey results. Handlying is good enough to feel the car but not quite gritty enough for me & not enough feedback from the tyres. Even on Pro with no aids I can race bumper to bumper with the Ai without any issues, It is not stressful to be on the edge & racing is quite casual, Even hitting the kitty litter don't kick you to bad & there is enough grip to recover & get back on track without losing to much time in the race, maybe a couple of places dropped sort of thing.
If you can get it for 25 quid & like your racers then I would say it is a must have, Pay no more than 25 quid for it though.
I'll post back when I have straightened out a bit & have taken it online.

Me and Nokkon completed Resident Evil 5 not long ago. Great experience :) I think the final battle did go on a little too long but I was impressed at the incredibly simple method of killing Wesker right at the end! The first part of it pissed me off a treat last night though when we couldn't figure out what to do in the Volcano.

Definitely be going through that again. I want to do an Amateur run by myself and will be doing Veteran with Nokkon.

Now to write up my long overdue review of it!

Davey_Pitch
11-05-2009, 10:39
I'm doing a Veteran run on my own, which is proving to be exceptionally easy so far thanks to unlimited ammo for my Magnum, it's killing everything in pretty much one hit. I'll likely need help for the Professional playthrough though, which is meant to be very tough at times if you're on your own :)

Haly
11-05-2009, 10:52
I'm amazed by how ridiculously easy amateur is now (played chapter 1 late last night as I'm trying to get it down to under 5hrs) and that was just with infinite ammo for the basic handgun, now I've got infinite ammo for the shotgun, it's going to be a walk in the park!
So might give veteran a shot to see how simple it is.

It's nice to carry on levelling up, and I think I'll eventually start a new game off when I've done everything, with the intention of maxing out my character as much as possible. With 30 levels I reckon it's possible to get every SPECIAL stat to 10, and every skill to 100, with lots of useful perks as well.

Spent a good bit of time yesterday playing Tiger Woods 09 after a while away from it. Only 3 tournaments away from completing the first PGA season, and winning all 3 will give me a clean sweep of every competition. After that I'll be throwing myself fully into the Tiger Challenge mode.

Managed to get my hands on the Fight Night Round 4 demo this weekend. It's a lot quicker than FN3, and the total punch control system has been revamped a bit, making body punching easier to do and harder to spot coming at you. Haymakers are much less important here, instead proper dodging/blocking and countering is the way to go, as haymakers are too slow to connect most of the time. The career mode in this sounds good so I'm looking forward to it even more now.

I did actually finish Broken Steel this weekend. Decent enough story, plenty of action, some nice new weapons, some bad ass extra enemies! The new Super Mutant, Ghouls and Radscorpions are insanely strong, and if you're caught unprepared they can take you out very quickly. They make Deathclaws look like softies! Still need to reach level 30 three times for all the karma achievements, and I'm done with the game, until the next (rumoured) DLC appears anyway.

I bought Vision of the Future last night and I'm loving it. It's far richer than Knothole Island and certainly doesn't feel like something they've rushed. Definately recommended.

I finished my Veteran run through of Resident Evil collecting all the BSAA emblems and even managed to do it under 5 hours. I've also gone through and collected all the treasures and S ranked every level to collect all the figurines so I'm at 930/1000 with only a run though on pro to go. I feel ready to do the fallout 3 dlcs and I've thought about buying the game again... can't decide.

I finished off Tomb Raider Underworld over the weekend. It was good fun, nothing overly new for Tomb Raider but I enjoyed it. Probably finish off a few more achievements then sell it on.

Still got Broken Steel waiting for me, and also bought the two Fable 2 DLCs. Quite enjoying DLC at the moment, it's making old games more interesting as it should :)

I bought Vision of the Future last night and I'm loving it. It's far richer than Knothole Island and certainly doesn't feel like something they've rushed. Definately recommended.

1350/1350 .. and I finally had the incentive to get my corruption up to open the last demon door to get 30 points.

I've thoroughly enjoyed returning to Albion with the Vision of the Future quests and all the extra achievements were well thought out, if one was a tad frustrating; as said before for 560 points it's a bargain.

I've decided to have a game clear out before Sacred 2 and Star Ocean land. Games I've had for a while and I know despite thinking I'll come back to, I really won't.

GTA IV, Burnout: Paradise, Alone in the Dark, Banjo Kazooie and really really tempted to get rid of Resi Evil 5 too.

Anyone else like me and likes to have a minimal amount of games or you all hoarders?

I tend to end up thinking about the money and selling some off for the sake of buying new games :( I'd love to just hoard all the time but I just can't.
Think I've got about 25 games at the moment which is a lot but most of them would only sell for a couple of quid these days (Crackdown, PES6, that sort of thing). This time last year I had around 50

I'm a hoarder, definitely. I generally dislike getting rid of games but money is the issue generally. I think I'm on about 30 games currently but most of them are either ones I refuse to get rid of (Mass Effect, Bioshock, stuff like that) as well as games that really won't be worth too much. If I had my way I'd never get rid of any of them :D

I'm a hoarder too, think i've got around 30-35 games at the moment, and it's soon to go up as well =/

Also, I haven't been playing much recently (nor been on here actually). This is due to having 1 (yes 1) day off so far this month. The main ops guy at work is off so i've been covering him Tues/Weds, coupled with my normal Mon/Fri/Sat this totals the average persons week. Throw in helping my gf's business which i've been doing the last two years, and that takes up my only 2 days off, and when I do get Fridays off, it's more work for me. I'm so close to just booking a week off and going somewhere to get my mind at rest, i'm absolutley shattered, stressed and p*ssed off. So much so I even took some of it out on the missus, which was completely undeserved by her.

So yea, appologies for not being around, i'll get back soon, I hope.

Oh, and fyi, this month, a normal person will work 9-5 21 times, doing 8 hours of work per day (inc lunch). This equals 168 hours, i've already done 141 hours. Hopefully, you can see why i'm stressed :p

Decided to start renting some games again from Boomerang. Currently working my way through Quantum of Solace on 360. I also got Saints Row 2. I missed the boat when it first came out. Will finish Quantum of Solace first though before getting too involved with SR2.

Quantum of Solace is quite good so far. It's a bit all over the place though. One mission it's Quantum of Solace and the next it's Casino Royale based. The in between mission comm's don't seem to make it clear why but quite enjoying it still.

I've been bouncing between a few games lately. Went back to Call of Duty 4 to go through Veteran, and also Bioshock to go through it on Hard (hopefully without dying to get the Brass Balls achievement). Also been playing Summer Athletics a bit to try to get some more achievements as it's a bit rubbish and I want to send it back to Lovefilm. The Wheelman turned up today for me to review so I'll likely play that a lot over the next week or so.

What with one thing and another I've only been able to occaisionally strum through GH3 since the Xbox arrived a few weeks ago so I used the bank holiday as an excuse to give it a more thorough play test :)

Grabbed Mass Effect and Beautiful Katamari and downloaded Peggle and Castle Crashers for good measure. The Missus frowned when it first arrived but now shes trying to elbow me out of the way and get her GH/Peggle/Katamari fix. She even got stuck into some co-op Castle Crashers with me ;D

I've done some scorewhoring with WWE Legends, and got Leisure Suit Larry arriving tomorrow ;D
I've also finally played some of the Fallout 3 DLC: Broken Steel. Good fun so far although I think it's going to end up a bit short :( I won't be grinding to get the level 30 achievements as I'll leave that for when the other DLC comes out.

Also just purchased Wallace and Gromit on the XBLA. I reviewed it for the PC and really enjoyed it a lot. It's good on the Xbox but the controls are a bit patchy. However for 800 points I'd strongly recommend it to point n click fans :)

I just finished Quantum of Solace. I stick by my original statement that it's "quite good". Glad i just rented it. I wouldn't have been too pleased if i bought it if i'm honest. Some driving levels would have been good, the opportunity was there for it. It also has two of the most vomit inducing levels i have ever came accross (the train level and when he's been drugged). :( :D

The storylines are also slightly different to the movies. Which is disappointing. Anyway, Saints Row 2 next. :D

I finished Alone in the Dark. It had been sat on my shelf unopened for 6 months and after accepting there would be no great patch I gave it a go and you know, under some awful design decisions and controls there's actually a pretty good game with some great graphics and a good story.

Also finished the drum career of GH: World Tour (so got 150 points for completing all 4 careers). As someone who used to play a little drums I'm enjoying the high-hat/ride positioning and for the most part the tracks made sense from a real-drum perspective. I think I'm done with music games now though until GH: Metallica or RB:2 are peanuts.

Bought Wallace & Gromit and loving it. I can understand where Haly et al. are coming from with the controls but tbh if you've not played it on PC and haven't played a PC point and click for a very long time I really found than more than adequate. Half way through act 3 as I'm playing it with my daughter and looking forward to finishing it and the next epidsodes.

Came back from Hull yesterday with Spider: Friend or Foe which I got as I wanted a quick something before Sacred 2 lands on Friday. Far more linear and button mashy than I expected but sometimes you need a but of mindless fun. I also picked up Surfs Up which I'm finding really good fun. Played some with the family yesterday and then found myself staying up until nearly midnight; which as I'd been up since 5 says something.

I'm currently playing Saints Row 2 and Midnight Club : Los Angeles.

I don't remember a great deal about the original Saints Row apart from it was short, fun and beat any GTA games to "next gen" but one thing i have noticed about SR2 is it seems graphically poorer. Some textures are just down right bland. It also suffers from poor vehicle handling and poor framerate issues. All this aside, i am enjoying it's over the top storyline and it's still fun.

Midnight Club? Well it's very much like Test Drive Unlimited, except graphically better in EVERY way. Granted the map size is smaller but TDU was a tree filled island with the odd urban area! Midnight Clubs difficulty level ramps up quite quickly, the CPU very rarely EVER makes a mistake. Which makes for very close call races and sometimes infuriating races. I'm quite enjoying it though.

Oh and for anyone who likes product placement in games,my God Midnight Club is ridden with it. Pizza Hut, Virgin, T-Mobile, Best Buy, Sears, Nike Air Jordan and even Rustlers Microwave Burgers ;D

The problem with the demo is that the powers you have are maxxed out and some of the cooler powers haven't been activated. When you can kill the enemies in 1/2 hits it just isn't fun, when you have to beat the living daylights out of them and endeavour to be as creative as possible for that all important bonus XP it becomes far more fun. Pretty much every kill i make in the full game comprises of several different types of attack as you can triple your XP that way.

With that said, i got the full game yesterday and am loving it, the storyline and characters are excellent and the extra powers combined with the lower level of the 'standard' powers at the start make for a really varied combat experience. Also the enemies later on in the game are much cooler.

Not a great game as it's one of the older 360 hunting titles. The others are much better. I will finish it because it took me a long time to snag one of these as it's only available on import.

I've been playing Wheelman for review purposes, and while I'm only a short way into it, it's not half bad. It's much more vehicle based than any other open world game I've played, as you will be using your car as a weapon in most missions, but the driving controls are pretty nice so it's not a bad thing. The graphics are pretty and the voice acting has been okay so far, what you'd expect from Vin Diesel really. The on-foot sections that I've had so far have been okay too, but I've not got a gun yet so time will tell if that makes a big difference or not. All in all, a positive start for it.

Iirc melee is level 3 in the demo, when i finished that island off i had only just upgraded it to level 2. You NEED level 3 melee on the second island, a junker conduit takes around 10 hits at level 3 to kill. There's also some utterly fantastic weapons you discover, one of my favourites that i got this morning is a slow moving rocket, but when upgraded it'll shoot toward whoever you hit with electricity. Really good fun when you know there's a mob around the corner, fire half a dozen into the sky, leap out, slow mo, precision headshot one of them (tis like a sniper rifle attack), watch the others all go flying as the bombs rain down from above. .

Don't worry too much about your karma. It 'accelerates' its growth according to how many good/evil side missions you've done. Now i can nuke half the city by accident and lose loads of good karma but build it back up again very quickly as i've done all 15 good missions. I quite like the idea, it's like you've built up a reputation so people are quick to forgive you if you see what i mean. It's really easy to max out your karma by the end of the game if you've done all of the karma aligned side missions which is useful as Karmic Overload requires maximum karma to activate.

And yes, i can literally nuke half a city now :D Thunder drop is a mere childs attack compared to my might.

Sacred 2

What can I say? It's nerdy, a huge time sync, a little repetitive, quite old school and I love it.

To put things in perspective:

My stats are:

Level 22 (out of 200)
Played time 24 hours (mrs gave me 'the look' when she saw this.. I've only had it 5 days!)
Main quest completion: 25%
Number of side quests completed: 160 (out of 600)
Area of map uncovered 12%
Enemies killed: c.5000

After I complete the game on bronze difficulty I'll complete it on Silver to Unlock Gold, then Gold to unlock Platin, then Platin to unlock Niob. All with this character who gets to keep her stats and equipment for each new play through.
Then I'll play through the dark campaign with a new character.
Then I'll get the other 4 characters to level 15 and get 1000/1000.

So anyone considering this game be aware of what you're getting yourself into! ;D

:/ In all honesty if it hadn't been for the £17.99 price tag I don't think I would have bought Star Ocean until there was a gaming lull. Tales of Vesperia in a few weeks time looks far the better the game and everything I've seen and read about SO 4 does make it seem decidedly average...

Saying this, I still found enjoyment in Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant so I have no doubt I'll probably end up quite enjoying it. :p

How far are you in so far?

Absolutely desperate to play InFAMOUS now, but simply cannot afford it. I'm waiting for Psymonkee to get his Xbox back, and therefore his Rock Band addiction, or by simply stealing it, whichever comes first :(.

To steal it you'd first have to make it to my house :p

Then get me drunk so I wouldn't notice.....and since you have no car I can safely say: Ner ner ne ner ner :p

Only 5-6hrs. So early days yet for an RPG really. I'm loving the combat at least :)

I want ToV but I can't find it available for less than £35 so it'll have to wait a while :(

I quite fancy giving Infinite Undiscovery another shot sometime.

Oh dear god, infamous has turned from the most fun loving game in recent memory into the most ANNOYING game in history. Remember the orbs in crackdown? Well this is the PS3 equivalent. 349/350 shards and i've been searching for 3 bloody hours for the last bloody shard and haven't bloody found it. I wouldn't have bothered but when i finished the game i was on 339/350 so thought 'well why not?'. You blithering idiot Streeteh.

As a side note, even that glum, cynical git known as Yahtzee called this game 'great' so all you PS3 owners, go go go!

Nokkon, once i've platinumed this fo shizzle you can borrow it, but i want mah resistance back! :p

Cheers matey. I actually got some of Resistance done recently, I really need to push through it though, especially as I have Resistance 2 unplayed here too.

I'll definitely take your offer on, I'd lend you something back but you already have the PS3 games I own, my loanee ammunition is Xbox360 based :(.

I didn't find Dead Space scary at all! Which considering I was freaked out by Condemned and generally crap with scary games, I was quite disappointed. :(
Loved the first few levels of Dead Space, then I realised it was just repeating itself and sold it on.

It does get repetitive in the middle section but it improves dramatically towards the end. The final boss is one of the most impressive pieces of game 'directing' that i've ever seen.

It scared the poop out of me.

I agree, whilst you do backtrack through the same area in a couple of occassions, the story does actually call for it, so you never actually feel your just grinding from A-to-B-to-C, which for me is a massive compliment. And you're right, the direction in the game is superb.

I loved Dead Space, it's gotta be in my top 20, possibly 15 games of all time.

It felt like a massive grind for me! Pity as it was brilliant at first. Ah well, I didn't pay much for it and I got the same amount back so that's alright :)

I just swapped someone my promo copy of Afro Samurai for their Halo Wars LE which seemed a decent deal to me :) Looking forward to playing it a bit later on.

I'm with you. I found the first few chapters very opressive and scary and could only manage one chapter a night. It does get 'better' once you get used to the mechanics but it was enough for me to end up playing it on easy.

I used to love a good horror but since having kiddie winks I've been a complete wuss and only really like a happy ending these days.

It is quite a superb game though!

Got Prototype today, only given it 20 minutes so far.

Graphically it's really a disappointment, which is a shame and the animation on AI in in-game cut-scenes should be better, however, with that said, I love how fast and fluid you move in and around people and objects, climbing over objects or running up walls. The powers are immense and the ability to take someone and steal their identity is awesome. I'm quite intrigued by the story as well and as I said, it's all very fast and slick, but it should look a lot better graphically.

I'm gonna give it a bigger play tonight.

I think now is certainly the best time for that to happen as it's quite a weak season for games at the moment with InFamous being the only game to set the world alight, and that's PS3.

Prototype might be good, Red Faction might be good, UFC is great but definitely Marmite.

Finished Saints Row 2 the other day. Quite enjoyed it and lasted quite a while. Not a GTA4 beater though (imho) . Also got Tom Clancy's Hawx yesterday and completed today. So just as well i have Wanted arriving in the morning. Not expecting great things from it but it did get average to good reviews.

Nearly platinumed Infamous but i still need that last damn shard! Started buying up cheap second hand copies of the games i missed last year to fill the gaming drought we inevitably have coming, just got mirrors edge in the post today. Looking to also buy Prince of Persia and Resident Evil 5, i reckon those will keep me for a month or two.

Mirrors Edge was my game of last year and Resident Evil 5 is my goty so far in 2009 so good choices! I personally thought that if you ignore its sumptuous looks and engaging free world exploration there were too many mistakes in PoP to make it good though; you can't win'em all. ;)

I heard PoP was average but you can buy it + the expansion for a little over £15 new these days. I'm not of the opinion that every game i play has to be fantastic, just that it has to be priced correctly :)

Very much looking forward to both Re5 and Mirrors Edge as i thought the demos were brilliant, especially mirrors edge.

Anyone got any other suggestions? PS3 mostly but PC titles will be considered :p

PoP is well worth "a little over £15", especially if it includes the expansion. I haven't played the expansion though. I heard it's difficulty had been ramped up due to criticism of it being too easy but it infact makes the game TOO difficult to the point of frustrating now. So that put me off!

PoP is good though. It suffers repeativness but it's GFX are gorgeous and when you chain moves together it look's superb! :)
