Reading online I'm going to have to start the game again because the moment I respawn in a vita chamber I'm screwed :( even if I reload a save game :(

Davey_Pitch

There is a fix for it which I believe involves removing the update and starting a new game, can't remember the exact steps but it's definitely still do-able.

But I'm a fair way into the game:( oh well start again

Going through Bioshock again on hard and not using vita chambers. The only problem is the that the option to disable vita chambers is no longer an option as it's disappeared :/

You need to download some DLC for it to appear. There is a fix for it which I believe involves removing the update and starting a new game, can't remember the exact steps but it's definitely still do-able.
Yep, it happened to me, I had to do something in a certain order for it to appear as an option.

It's not too hard to do on Hard though as you can skip almost all the Big Daddy's.

leowyatt
07-09-2009, 11:21
ok I've queued up the DLC, will I still get the BB achievement? Is there anyway to check if I've used one? I don't remember using one but I'm not entirely sure.

NokkonWud
07-09-2009, 15:06
No way to check, best bet is to restart and make sure you have the option to disable them. I was in the same position as you too, having gotten quite far (Fisheries) only to have to restart due to spawning in a Vita-Chamber. If you still don't get the option to disable them even after getting the DLC then search for a solution like Davey mentioned, that's what I did and it worked a charm, but I did have to start from the beginning (and remember to make sure it's on Hard difficulty).

Worth it though as that 1100/1100 looks awesome :p.

I'm also half way through Bioshock on hard. I found the first few levels the hardest, especially against the Big Daddies (can't help but want to take them on). Just need those hard achievements to get the full 1100!

Up to the Farmer's Market at the mo.

Dirt 2 just arrived today so I'll be playing that for the foreseeable future :)
Had some excellent post today in fact as I also had Infinite Undiscovery and Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires arrive too. All for reviewing purposes. If I had post like this every day, I'd be very happy ;D

I've been getting stuck into the Orange Box and Kameo. Not sure how Half Life 2 slipped me by on PC so I thought I'd give it a whirl on X-Box. I'm up as far as Ravenholme and trying not to **** my pants everytime the stupid black headcrabs get the jump on me.

Guitar Hero World Tour : drums, bass & guitar :)

All good fun when the family/friends are around; I even have princess griff learning the guitar at present! :D

Shame they haven't released an update so our lips mic's work with it though - annoying as they work fine with RB2, RB beatles, GH Metallica, GH greatest hits :(

Seems like they're not bothering to support the WT game which frankly is rubbish! I'm not paying out for a wired mic which is a) wired!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO and b) not going to be any use other than with that single game as we'll have lips ones for further music purchases!

I love the game in general though ozzy osbourne singing la bamba is creepy.

We will be looking to get RB2 cheap ASAP. :D

I've been playing:

The Beatles: Rock Band a lot the last few days and absolutley love it despite not being a huge Beatles fan. We managed to get our first Gold star achievement earlier. I did two songs on Guitar and my wife 2 on Vocals. They're bloody hard as well as I did a song earlier twice on Expert 100% on bass and didn't get a gold star; just need to time my over drives better. I haven't touched it with the drums yet but I'm quite looking forward to it even though Medium is definately my limit (despite playing drums irl).

I've also still been playing You're in the Movies which has cemented itself as a firm favourite with the family. Far far better than I expected (and t'internet told me it would be) and also a good little 30 minute work out every morning when playing the mini-games.

Family fun; dunno, as I get older I really appreciate games we can all play together. :)

Got them both for a tenner after trades :) HMV gave me £18 for COD4! (figured it's finally gonna lose it's value when MW2 drops)

Urgh up to Hephaestus on Bioshock on hard, suddenly all the enemies got a health upgrade :(

Thuggish splicers can survive a point blank shotgun round to the face, leadhead splicers now have machine guns.

I'm low on cash and have two first aid kits. Wish me luck!

Jingo

Rock Band 2 :)

Once MS pull their thumb from their backside and release the patch for Lips microphones to work with RB/GH etc, then Princess Griff and I shall be wailing the house down (and thanks to Psymonkee) to even more tunes! ;D

Quite annoying that beatles rock band, guitar hero metallica, GH5 etc all come ready configured with our Mics, and that MS have confirmed compatability patches 'will be released' but with a) no release date and b) no further information

I played RB2 yesterday for the 1st time and much prefer it to GH already; the style, tabbing and little touches I find make the gaming experience more enjoyable and less of a chore. Challenges to unlock further songs also adds an addictive element which PG and I will surely be hooked on for many evenings yet to come :D

I'm bouncing between several things currently, pretty much all for review purposes....

Supercar Challenge on the PS3 has been played a fair bit over the past week. It's an excellent driving game badly let down by a really poor career. When you look at the length and variety in the career of something like Forza it really does pale in comparison. Hardcore racing fans will love the actual driving though. Expect to see the review on GamesareEvil as soon as the boss checks it over ;)

Guitar Hero 5 on Xbox 360 has also been played a fair bit. There are some excellent new gameplay modes and ideas and the game is more accessible to new players than any other game in the genre, however I think it's let down by a pretty poor set list. The ability to import songs from World Tour and Smash Hits is a welcome addition though as there are some excellent songs there.

Madden NFL 10 on the iPhone was a rush job over the weekend, but it turned out to be an excellent mobile version of Madden and I was more than happy to review it. My review can now be read here - http://theportablegamer.com/2009/09/iphone-review-madden-nfl-10/

Also got Fight Night Round 4, Virtua Tennis 2009 and TNA Impact on the 360, Theme Park Madness on the iPhone, and WET on the PS3 (to arrive today hopefully) to review. If I get any time to myself between review games I'll likely just be playing the Fifa 10 demo. :)

I'm much the same as Davey, lots of games, many for reviewing purposes.

Currently I'm playing a lot of DiRT2. It's a great improvement upon the original as well as extremely kind on the achievement points.

Also bought Suikoden on the US PSN store as an old favourite of mine from the PS1 days. The US PSN store is so much better than the UK one! So many great PS1 classics on there.

Dabbling in some Shatter which is always fun.

Then there's Tales of Vesperia, Order of War (PC war game), Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires, Infinite Undiscovery and Arkanoid on the iPhone.

Writing it down, it feels like a lot ;D

Sloooowly getting there on Bioshock on hard. It's not that hard any more, but boring. I love the atmosphere of the game, but at the moment I'm up to Apollo Square and it turns into 'go into room, blast splicer, heal, repeat'.

Loving the crossbow, one hit kill on most splicers.

I'm currently playing my way through Colin McRae DiRT 2, Need for Speed: Shift and The Beatles: Rock Band on Xbox360. All very, very good.
Also going through Halo in Co-Op and will hopefully be doing Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST in that order over the coming nights!

I've Risen on pre-order (out 2nd October)
Dragon Age: Origins on preorder (out 6th November and my most anticipated title of the year)

And now.... Divinity 2's achievements have been released so it's release could be imminent ... http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/divinity-2-ego-draconis/achievements/

Finally got my hands on a copy of gears 2, i'm impressed with how much the graphics have improved over the original, the AI still seems flakey as ever though :(. Still, if it's half as good as its predecessor i'll be happy.

Just played the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 demo, sweet jesus it's good. The whole reason i held out for this was because of the dire framerate on the 360 version and after playing a coop mission (with an AI partner) which had a stupid amount of enemies on screen the framerate didn't even falter so i'm pleased.

I've noticed the odd drop in framerate in the full game but nothing serious, it was barely even noticeable. The whole game seems a bit brighter than the 360 version, though I'm really disappointed they've taken virtually all the blood out.

That would be smashing, it's such a fast game and the slowdown on the 360 version really frustrated me. Have you imported Sigma 2 or something? I assumed you were talking about NG2 on the 360 when you said you didn't notice slowdown :o

Tis a shame about the blood but i'm inclined to believe that's partly why there's less slowdown (and from what i've read the resolution is also higher). I'd rather forfeit blood in favour of a better framerate tbh, and anyways, Ryu still gets blood all over his weapons so that'll do me fine.

I'm currently playing Fifa 10, and probably will be for the next year or so. It's even better than 09 was, which is some going, and just like in real football manages to make me go through a wide range of emotions in a match. 2-1 up away to Bolton in my first league game as Everton, and in the 83rd minute I take a goal kick too quickly and pass it straight to one of the Bolton strikers who slots it home. Cue anger at myself for being so stupid as on the top difficulty scoring goals isn't easy. I set my team to Ultra Offensive tactics and pour forward. In injury time, my new signing Aaron Lennon makes a great sliding tackle on the full back, sprints down the wing and puts over a perfect cross, where my virtual pro (me) is waiting at the far post to head home. Cue cheering and punching the air and scaring of cats. Fifa is one of the few games that can put me through those kinds of emotions while playing it, and it's why I love playing it :D

Finishing Overlord II up, wont 1k it as it isnt worth a second play through for ~50 points or so, and the multiplater is both rubbish and under populated, as the first one was. Dont know why they bothered really, it was the same in the first one.

Single plater shines though, great fun :)

I really must play Overlord 1 at some point, quite liked the demo but never got round to the full game.

I've just finished playing Disney's Up. Kids should like it, the fact a second player can drop in at any time is certainly handy for the younger gamer and their parent. It's not bad but the AI is a bit iffy so it made playing it single player rather frustrating. Usual Disney fodder really, easy for points too if that way inclined.
Oh and it's ridiculously short, only took me 3-4hrs at most to finish! Was going to pass it onto someone else to review but when it's that easy to finish, I might as well do it myself.

Also just started playing Halo:ODST again for reviewing, I won't go over my usual Halo feelings as everyone's probably bored of them :p But I'm quite enjoying ODST so far, more my kind of story and I like feeling more vulnerable than the usual faceless (and I'd say dull) Master Chief.
Seems to be rather short though as far as I can tell, I'm halfway through it already and I've only played it a few hours!

I'm playing Fifa 10 the odd chance I do get to play anything these days. I just started the Be A Pro mode right away and chose Kenny (shockingly) as the name the commentators call out when I have the ball. 90% of the time Martin Tyler says Kenny but sometimes he says Paddy Kenny. Now I've seen the screen shots vs the PC version and I know there's no comparison but I'm still really enjoying it. It doesn't actually look or play that bad; no worse than The Arganauts for example and better than Two Worlds. It's gritty with expletive language and drug references throughout and it really doesn'y hand hold. All conversation has been voice acted and despite a trite fantasy setting the script is full of subtle touches and a pleasant adult tone.

It was always a given I was going to enjoy it though wasn't it ;)

OPERATION FLASHPOINT - DRAGON RISING
One of the best realistic military shooter. The battle is intense and very good. A close replica of the real thing apparently. I have my copy, and it took me over 4 hours or so to do two missions [Counting number of failed attempts].

The game is annoyingly good lol. Yeah there are the occasional bug here and there - Tree getting in view and popping up in weird places, the game is still very good.

I haven't tried it online yet, so cant offer any comment on the online side, I think there is a coop mode online as well.

The game sort of combine the slow pace of SOCOM with a realistic military edge to it. In the missions, you do not have to kill all the enemies, in fact it is recommended you be stealthy and only kill if necessary to complete your mission.

The A.I is pretty good too. If you shoot down one of the enemy, it will call for the medic and if patched up, he's back up fighting. If the player get shot, a medic is needed asap or the player bleeds to death. Just like in real life!

In the heat of the battle, you have to think and act like you will in real life. A.I will actively and stealthily look you, they will flank you from one left or right. . . .Awesome. Even call for back up or Air strike if needed.

I like the game, and it offers a long term playability in my opinion. And for 28quid from Shopto. You cant go wrong.

I've had quite a quiet week.

I finished a basic run through of Lucidity which I've spoken about elsewhere ("http://www.playeronepodcast.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5466"). After the fact I do think that for some strange reason the game peaks in difficulty half way through act 2 and calms down a bit and becomes almost enjoyable in act 3. I've prepared to pull back some of my anger towards it but for the most part I'm happy to stick by my scathing comments.

I'm still plodding through Risen. I'm enjoying it but I'm starting to wonder if I've got the time for big time sinks like this. Despite the criticism thrown at the 360 version it's really not too bad and perfectly playable. I'll definately finish it though whether I'll be bothered to do a 2nd/3rd play through for the points is debatable.

I still come back to Tales of Vesperia. I managed a 3 hour run this morning as I've the flu and I'm supposed to be taking it easy (netting 5 achievement points! woohoo!) taking my play time to 50 hours. I'm about 2/3rds through a first run through and nearly at the end of chapter 2 (out of 3) and I'm still enjoying the ride. I'm determined to finish and sell the thing this year; heck I still have Star Ocean IV sat on the shelf.

Also picked up Scriblenauts yesterday. I know the controls are pinickity and sometimes what you want to do doesn't work but it's still a lot of fun and will be perfect for my trip abroad this weekend.

I've Fallout 3 GOTY heading my way. Dragon Age: Origins and Assassins Creed 2 on preorder so I've really got to get some of my back log out the way (lets not mention 'Splosion Man, which I'm nearly through too). I'm pretending MW:2 isn't coming out atm though I may have talked the better half into letting me excange my Core+20GB lounge 360 for my gaming Elite and me getting the 250GB MW:2 Bundle.... just maybe...

Currently playing through Need for Speed: Shift and Uncharted 2. Can't say much on Uncharted 2, bit finicky in terms of controls at times and thus far, not the jaw dropping experience I'd been led to believe it was, but I'm only at the end of Chapter 2, so not far, but once again it's delivering phenomenal and enthralling cut-scenes, I just hope it doesn't go the way of the first where I felt I was playing from cut-scene to cut-scene rather than playing the game for fun.

As for Need for Speed: Shift, possibly the most underrated racing game I've ever played. I think it's absolutely fantastic.

26, the game took just under 10 hours to complete however i barely explored, i had around 20 of the 100 treasures. I really wanted to just 'play' the game for what it was and ignore all the side stuff. Goty for me. The game really comes into its own when you 'catch up' with the timeline (ie, you get to the point at which the game started - in the train), i thought that was going to be near the end but it's in fact more like the half way point with the most epic part of the game a couple of chapters after.

Currently playing Forza 3. So far from the couple of hours I've put into it, it excels past Forza 2 in every way. Graphically beautiful, the career mode is much more organic this time, with the events available changing depending on the cars you have available in your garage. Virtually all cars are unlocked from the start, so as soon as you earn enough in game credits you can buy your favourite car without having to worry about unlocking it. Having the game early is nice as well, as the eBay like marketplace for buying cars is relatively quiet so I've been able to pick up several bargains I'm sure I wouldn't be able to get otherwise. Anyone getting this on Friday won't be disappointed. :)

Davey I've played the demo for NFS and FM3 and I never thought I'd say this, but I prefer NFS! FM3 is technically superior in every where however as I am not a complete petrol head I found the FM3 demo to be competent, but not exciting. NFS on the otherhand seemed fun.

Of course there is room in the world for more than one racer!

Davey_Pitch
19-10-2009, 08:47
I really enjoyed NFS: Shift when I played it a few weeks ago. I wouldn't personally put it above Forza 3 as I just prefer that style of racer, but as you say there's more than enough room for more than one racer. The problem with NFS though, is that it's trying to be realistic but the driving physics is still much more arcade like than it should be, if it's going for realism. That doesn't mean it's not enjoyable, but I think it needs to either go fully arcade again like the Underground series (but without the annoying rubberband logic) or go full simulation style and improve the driving physics. As it stands it sits somewhere between the two which is why I feel it doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

I've found something a little interesting regarding Need for Speed: Shift... I originally wanted to wait for Forza 3 but was desperate for a track racing game, so got NFSS to play until FM3 came out.. now the problem is that I've found NFSS so good that I'm worried FM3 might not be the 'be all and end all' of racing I was hoping for.

For a start, Forza 3 will have to go some way to providing better graphics and the tier structure of NFSS works really well too (along with the badge structure for longevity).

NFS is very arcadey with a couple of assists on, whack it up on the difficulty, all assists (though you could leave on traction control, stability control and ABS if you wanted) and play the interior view and it becomes one hell of an experience.

After struggling to keep going in the middle section I found that the game definately picks up in the final third and has a really enjoyable ending. I've now revised my ranking and it's going into third spot on my 360 jrpg list...

Impressive going there Abooie!
I fancy going back to it once I've got some time so might get a chance later in the week.

I've spent the past week playing two games: Suikoden on the PSP (PS1 technically but got it off the US PSN Store) and Uncharted 2.

Still love Suikoden as much as I did the first time round although I didn't do a 100% game (messed up something that stopped me from getting all the characters :(). I'll definitely go back to it soon though. Wrote a brief retrospective on it for a site while I was at it: http://resolution-magazine.co.uk/content/resurrection-suikoden/

Uncharted 2 is amazing. Beforehand Batman: Arkham Asylum was my GOTY but Uncharted 2 has bumped it down to 2nd place now, not even sure if MW2 will manage to usurp it.
I've only got the last chapter to go on UC2 which I'll be doing shortly, already want to play it again though which is always a good sign!

It's not flawless as it does have some minor bugs and weirdness, but it'd be nitpicking to be overly critical about them. Fantastic experience and well worth a look.

Just finished the train section in Uncharted in crushing difficulty, lots of people on ocuk have said it was easy but i think the majority of those are fibbing and have used the exploit for one hit kills. It's not impossible, it's not as difficult as the highest difficulty in Killzone 2 for example (which i have completed) but it is by no means easy.

So far i'd say the game is at its best in Hard, Crushing is just a little too unforgiving.

I'm about halfway through Uncharted. The LAN definitely interrupted things, but something has started to click with it and it's clearly a very good game. Not sure it's yet my GOTY, but it's up there so far in the top 10. Currently going through in Hard and it's not been overly challenging yet, but thankfully not too easy either, so it's quite nice so far, definitely chosen the right difficulty to start with.

My friend got 100% of the trophies at the LAN, dunno how he managed it, he went through Crushing at the LAN and got the remaining treasures. I did some Co-Op, which is very good, but needs many more levels if it's going to end so quickly, I'm sure looking at Sony's DLC history, this will happen.

Although I have 8/10 achievements on Trials and a handful left to get on LIPS, I think most games tend to have that one achievement that requires you to spend a million & one hours playing at expert level which, for me as a casual 360 gamer, will not likely ever be achieved anyhow! :p

I'm really really really on the home straight of Tales of Vesperia.

I ground out some gald which is required when you finish the game to carry stuff over and thene completed the speed run (finish the game in 15 hours). This morning I finished the Bonus dungeon (required 5 runs of it to unlock the final room) and my guys are all level 185 (out of 200).

So what's left?

I'm at 890/1000 and I'm at 140 hours.

I have to complete the Colliseum with all my characters including the 200-man melee whateverthatis.
Get my guys all up to level 200 which shouldn't take long as I've a 10x exp bonus on this playthrough (cost me 3000 gald on last playthrough).
Then complete the list of monsters, items and titles.

Finally... I have to have a 3rd run through up to the first big boss (about 3 hours) and need to kill him while lower than level 15.

I know this is meaningless to you all but it's helped me work out exactly what's left :P

I also think I'll get some champagne when it's done.

edit: I have enjoyed it all too! honest

Borderlands is fun.

Basically its Diablo in an FPS package with a loose storyline, its nicely weighted so that some missions are very tough until you level up a bit but quickly you can survive attacks which would have killed you in one hit as you level and aquire items, there are loads of items which are generated in a similar way to Diablo giving permutations on 7 or 8 central weapons and enhancing them with different powers/ multipliers.

Graphics are good the enemies seem varied and the level design is very nice, sometimes you don't get enough time to explore before you want to head back for the next mission but I'm sure I'll have to grind a bit later. Apparently the online play is really good and frantic but right now I'm enjoying the single player campaign trying to figure out which wepons I prefer and whether I'm going to stick with the Siren character whos ability is to dimension shift creep up on enemies and unleash a sonic boom when she shifts back, there are solidier, tank and assassin options also so will have to try those out :)

At the moment I'd happily recomend it, it seems well put together and a lot of fun

I'm sorry to say that I definitely don't think Condemned 2 improved on the first.

Really? I felt it had a much better control system, a far improved and more involved forensic side to it, and more realistic weapons physics.

I'm afraid I have no source for a third part apart from the ending of the second and the anticipation of closure for the story. I'd be amazed if there wasn't a third.

Maybe it was just me but the more controls/moves made it a little bit awkward to handle.

The increase in guns also shifted it back towards the usual FPS style game from which the first only touched on.

I'm not wholly against Condemned 2 but the easiest way to describe my feelings would be to say "I finished it just for the sake of finishing".

I'll admit, I'm another who thought Condemned 2 took everything that was really good about the first game and completely ignored it. It took me a while to really get into the first game but I ended up really disliking Condemned 2 and have still yet to finish it (though I want to).

On the topic of Borderlands, I finally tried it out a bit further with my friend and it was a laugh. He liked it so much he went home and ordered it, so that was cool. His copy should arrive tomorrow and we're gonna play through it in co-op :D.

When I first started the sequel all I could think was 'what is this gayness?!' when I realised they'd changed the control system, but as I got into the story I really started to enjoy it. The settings were really good as well - the museum level fighting dudes in armour was superb. :D

Jesus, I didn't realise you two were both so far ahead of me, I've completely lost any desire to score whore and I've been stuck on 72k for absolutely ages now. Don't think I've whored any game in about 4 months, just happy playing stuff like Fifa which is more fun but doesn't give me many points. I've lost a lot of the urge too tbh. If it wasn't for being laid up the last few months, I doubt I'd have broken 90k by now.

I think I'm getting the buzz more from acquiring review games rather than scorewhoring so I can't be bothered when I do play a game purely for fun.

160 hours, 3 playthroughs, 1200 items found/synthesised, 1000 monsters tagged, many many nightmares, incl. 1 where I nearly gave up at the end where I found out I'd missed something extra. But done.

Well I finished Saints Row 2 last night, all the story missions at least, and I have to say it was very very enjoyable. The game isn't as polished as GTA4, but it's probably on a par fun wise, maybe even more so if you add in all the activities like Septic Avenger. According to my save file it took me 18 hours or so, but I reckon 2-3 of them were spent pissing about in the activities, which I still need to finish off at some point.

All in all, very enjoyable and I hope there will be a third game at some point as I've really enjoyed both the Saints Row games I've played.

Yeah. It definately picks up as you progress and once you really get used to the combat it's good stuff.

I'll admit collecting all the stuff was frustrating and if I'd have known what I was getting myself into I'd have probably stuck with 1 playthrough and called it done.

I'd certainly recommend getting back into it.

Having said that, I have read some average reviews for it and I can see why. Been playing Sacred 2 quite a bit, and I don't really feel the same connection I have with other rpgs like it. It's a great game, very deep and a huge amount to do, but it's not feeling like it's sucked me it yet. 6 hours of play time suggests otherwise, but the good thing is that I know I can turn it off, not play it for a little while, then decide to just play it again as there's no collection achievements, yay!

Might see what Dragon Age is like too, suggested to Abooie last night about a race to 1k a game, and that was his suggestion, can't possibly think why though =/

Just started Dragon Age which i have very high hopes for; could this be the next Baldur's Gate that i've been waiting a decade for? I hope so but it's early yet so time will tell.

I'm also still dabbling in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, i've just started my runthrough on the highest difficulty and if i'm honest i'm struggling somewhat, great fun though. I assumed it would be easier than it is because i managed the difficulty below it without ever even needing to buy an item from the store, i think i'll need to buy quite a few now.

I'm also still playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer which is frankly the best online experience i've had on a console. Coop survival is just fantastic.

Currently playing through quite a lot!

Xbox360:
Halo 3: ODST
Forza Motorsport 3

Playstation 3:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Nintendo DS Lite:
Professor Layton and the Curious Village

iPod Touch:
Doodle Jump

I finally busted out the Nintendo DS Lite after around 18 months of no use after finally getting my hands on Professor Layton and I totally forgot what a fantastic little console it is and the game is absolutely superb. It's been brilliantly advertised and all kids should play it (and adults too!)

As for the iPod Touch, if you have one, or an iPhone, then get Doodle Jump, it's so good and for the price (59p) you really should pick it up.

As for the PS3, it's still only 1 game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which is really good, but I do struggle to play it for extended sessions. I'm not up to Chapter 20 so not much to go. I may have possibly enjoyed it more had I not started out straight away on Hard, but a challenge is always good. It does some stuff so very, very well, but the gun play is still poor and that's the one thing that needed changing most from the first.

On Xbox360 I've been playing Forza Motorsport 3 which is quite simply stunning. It's a total dream for anyone who loves racing games and features 3 of my favourite new race tracks to a game as well as some of the older gems like the Nurburgring, Laguna Seca and Maple Valley. It's just brilliant, both online and offline. In the online it's really nice to get a game where, if the host drops, hosting automatically swaps to the next, most capable player, so it might as well be dedicated. Single player has a brilliant tier and level progression, something I felt was lacking in Need for Speed: Shift and Gran Turismo.

I've also been playing Halo 3: ODST where, after my friend came to stay over with his Xbox360, we opted to get all the audio files, ended up completing the game again and I've gone to get all the other achievements and tomorrow I'm trying to get the Vidmaster Endure challenge with some friends. I'll also be going through some other things with some people from here if they need it. This is such a brilliant game, easily the best since the first game and my definite game of the year so far and can only see Modern Warfare 2 as a potential challenge to that.

Besides a fair amount of Dragon Age: Origins, I've been sent a copy of Borderlands to review.

I'd not paid any attention to Borderlands before and admittedly I assumed it was some multiplayer only game so I didn't bother looking much at it. However, although I've only played it for a couple of hours, I'm really enjoying it so far :)
As to why, well that's harder to describe :p I know it's really just a generic FPS with some basic RPG elements to it but it's still drawn me in. Wondering if it's the old MMO feel to it, the urge to grind levels as it's all quite mindless but still satisfying.

Not tried it online or in co-op yet but I'm assuming it's great fun alongside a friend so I'll have to do that soon.

It's going to be an interesting one to review!

What do you mean by the gun play being poor? I've been playing the game and struggling to get into it, mainly because I get disheartened every time I get to a gun fight. The game is quite good-looking and the running around jumping stuff is fun (and the plot is good, and the voice acting is absolutely top drawer), but the fighting controls just don't seem to work for me and if it's true that, as heralded, it's the PS3 GOTY, I guessed console gaming wasn't quite my bag. I assumed it was because I'm a relative console noob - should I not be giving up the gamepad quite yet?

The cross hair is clumsy, and even when you're clearly nailing head shots there is absolutely no response from the game. Almost every complaint I've heard about the game is based around this and more disappointingly, it was a complaint that was similarly shared with the first game too.

If you play plenty of other third person games that use a similar method of aiming then compare, you'll see why Uncharted 2 does receive stick for it's gun play model.

Streeteh
10-11-2009, 19:43
Gears is imo the perfect example of gunplay in a 3rd person shooter, the crosshair is spot on despite perspective issues (which is what causes aiming to be a little off in many, including uncharted 2). Fortunately UC2 is still a good improvement over UC1 (try UC1 after playing 2, the shooting is just horrific), so i have hopes for UC3 finally nailing it.

To me it's a minor niggle in amongst a throng of awesome though.

I've put a couple of hours into Dragon Age and I'm very impressed.

I don't think it's graphically as bad as a lot are making out. Whilst I'll agree it falls short of Mass Effect and the occasional textures stands out as especially poor it has a perfect framerate and it easily holds itself above other games of the genre. I do wonder whether a lot of the criticism is coming from a vocal PC audience that doesn't believe games like this should be on consoles at all....

Anyhow, the story and characters have been the standouts for me along with the intelligent and witty dialogue that makes Risen, Two Worlds and even Oblivion look very poor.

Easily a goty contender at this point.

Borderlands - Done

Well at least the SP campaign

All in all I found this to be a highly enjoyable romp with a good balance of RPG-lite and shooting, the variety of weapons are particularly impressive. There is talk that the missons can be a bit samey which in someways I would agree with, there are collection missions and shoot people missions and clear out an area of enemies missions but on the whole they try to give them a variable narative and mostly you feel like you are doing them for a reason.

One of the big pluses of this game is supposed to be the multiplayer and I'll be picking it up again a little later in the product lifecycle for DLC and multiplayer as I currently have Forza3 and MW2 to play though and then Dragon Age. I can see MP being fun but ultimately if you have played through the missions on SP I suspect it will be more suited to known gaming friends rather than randomly generated parties of strangers.

If you liked Fallout 3 but played it with all the RGP fighting elements turned off then then this will be ideal, the story isn't as detailed but it doesn't detract from the fun.

Davey_Pitch

Difficult to say really. Though the changes are good ones, there's perhaps not enough of them overall to warrant a full price release. They've obviously taken a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy to the game, going for additions and tweaks rather than radical changes. Considering how much fun the first game was though, that's not strictly a bad thing.

I've mostly been playing Dragon Age. Absolutely love it, on my second playthrough now and yet to be bored! So much to do still and great to see so many different twists available.

Other than that it's all been review titles! Lego Indy Jones 2 being probably the biggest this week, it's really not as good as the original thanks to overcomplicating the formula :( Also got Spore Hero for the Wii but not tried that just yet as I've got some PC games to wrap up first.

I'm now playing through as an archer Dalish Rogue and I'm finding it just as captivating. My only complaints really are that some of the dungeons feel a tad too long and the general loot for the most part is rubbish but these are really minor nit picks.

It's also managed to keep me from Assassins Creed 2 which I adore and that says a lot.

PS did I mention I hit 100k... ok, maybe just once or thrice ;)

I really need to go back to Dragon Age but I'm just too addicted to MW2 for now - I'll probably spend some timeon it when I'm off over Christmas.

I've got the house to myself tonight and all tomorrow as Lynnie is away with her school, so I'm planning on catching up on a few things I've been meaning to play for a while. I'll likely try to finish off the Mothership Zeta content for Fallout 3, and possibly start another new game off. I want to put some more time back into Left 4 Dead 2 and Forza 3, and I may restart Batman: AA as I only put a couple of hours into it when I got it and haven't played it since. Will also try and go through some Special Ops on MW2 if Leo is still free to try it :)

I finally took the plunge and ordered Demon's Souls from America so that should hopefully arrive before Christmas. I need another challenging game to really get my teeth into and that definitely sounds like it should be it :)

Yup, a few of the missions in the first couple of sections, nothing beyond that though :)

I've done both Sniper Fi and the race one on Vet already on my own, we can just do as many of the rest as we can :)

Having gone through KOTOR and KOTOR II, and more recently Bioshock, NOLF and NOLF2...

*rummages in server cupboard for games...*

I rebought KOTOR for £1.74 when it was on offer last week on Steam :D Not played it yet but it seemed daft not to as I've got no idea where the original discs are.

I'm still playing through Dragon Age: Origins on my second playthrough. Also playing DiRT2 on the PC, which will make it the third time I've played the game to completion  Once on the 360, then a PC preview copy and now the PC review copy. Going to know the tracks better than the road outside my house at this rate ;D

I finished Dragon Age: Origins 1100/1100 this morning. The achievement that caused me the most trouble was 'Traveler ~ Set foot in every area in the game' as it seems it's quite easy to miss places you need for the achievement. A truly superb game and one I'd really recommend. I'm an old PC rpg gamer who finished BG1&2, Icewind Dale 1&2 and many many other hardcore games back in the day and I can honestly say playing on the 360 wasn't a problem.

Onto Assassins Creed 2 and Borderlands now; and not forgetting MW2 Spec Ops with Creature :D

Oh what?! I checked that EVERY week on Steam for a lower price, the one week I work and it drops in price?! That TOTALLY SUCKS.

I'm hoping to 1100 it too :) Absolutely love it still and there just seems to be so, so much to do!

It was only for a day as part of the extended Thanksgiving sale. Can't remember which day but it was between last Thursday and Monday. Also picked up Plants vs Zombies for £3.

It's still awesomely good. :D

Found a game I bought for pennies but not played yet. The Godfather. Only an hour or so into it as it was a pain in the bum to install, but it's pretty good.

[edit]

I'm bloody loving this. Ties in surprisingly well with the film too. Likenesses are cool *except for Michael - I think that they could get Pachino's permission. :(*

Just finished Viking: Battle for Asgard. Great hack and slash game, lots of gore, bit of a challenge, especially the end, but overall, a lot of fun :)

I see you're trying to get to 100k by Christmas, good luck Chris :D
I want to get to 100k by New Year but I haven't really got a plan so I might fall short. I'm enjoying Dragon Age: Origins too much to properly scorewhore. Although I have got NBA Live 2010 which should help a bit.

New laptop arrives in the next few days or so, which might help. Still got a fair few achievements on Fallout 3 to gain, about half the achievements on Viva Pinata to get and quite a few on DiRT2 (which I love on the PC as much as I did the 360 :D). New graphics card seems a good reason to replay these as they've all stuttered a bit on the current laptop!

Edit: Ooh and got James Cameron's Avatar on the way to review, hopefully that's good for points ;)

Sorry to spoil the party but Morrigan won't bat for the other side. You need to focus your attentions on Leliana; well, my female dalish rogue did
