Like the 'What are you listening to/reading' threads only it's for games :D

Currently I'm playing:
World of Warcraft as I've got back into it, possibly because it's the only thing that will just about run on this XP2200 PC I'm using at the moment.
Viva Pinata although got stuck on it for now but it's a good relaxing game.
And I keep meaning to get back into Oblivion after playing some of the main quest originally, I want to try some sidequests now. It's a bit hard to see on a 14" TV though.

Can you tell I've got a bit of free time at the moment? ;D

Want to try and get Excite Truck for the Wii.

Finally got all the single-player achievements for Gears of War so I'm letting it go for a while now. I think there's a new Oblivion expansion coming out soonish but I've only seen it advertised for the PC so far, can't imagine it won't be on the 360 though. I'll almost certainly be getting it. Hopefully STALKER will be out next month as well. I'm crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath!

Might have a crack at Tomb Raider again for some achievements, and I have Halo 3 on pre-order too.

On the Xbox I've been playing Pro Evo 6 laying the smack down online. I'll have another couple of games tonight, as from tomorrow I'll be playing Crackdown.

On the PC I'm working my way through Knights of the Old Republic again. I forgot just how engrossing it can be.

Also still playing Guitar Hero 1 + 2 on the PS2 from time to time, a great way to waste 20 mins or so :)

I'm considering getting an xecuter2 for my xbox as it's just sitting in a box at the moment, not sure how much I'd use it though. And don't trust myself to not break the thing :embarassed:

I'm hoping to get a good dose of Oblivion this weekend, hit level 47 in WoW and not sure if I can be bothered to level up hard again for a few days. Off car hunting though, this going outdoors thing really cuts into the gaming time.

Just finished Enchanted Arms, just need to finish off a few things to get 100% (collect a few golems), really enjoyed it so a big thank you to Jen for recommending it. :)

I was thinking of giving Oblivion another blast as I want to try The Nights of the Nine quests, but since I just got Crackdown don't think that's gonna happen. ;D

Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)

I've spent most of the day playing Oblivion and really enjoying it, been doing the arena quests and moved onto the fighter's guild line of sidequests but there's so many others
Amazed how much there's to do in the game :) When I tried it on the PC when it came out, it really didn't appeal to me, I think it feels better on a console for some reason.

Currently playing Splinter Cell 4 - Double Agent.

After a very poor start due to dual core optimizer installation problems, this game is turning out to be not too bad for a console conversion. I've just completed the Ship level 4 in the ice and snow which which was easy enough. However the level before with the the JBAs training was awsome. It's a long time since i've played the original so I forgot how enjoyable these games are. It does take a little time to get into stealthy sneak'em ups but so far so good. :)

I've just completed NFS: Carbon recently, both the Challenge and Career modes (twice over in fact but that is a different story) and now I'm thinking about starting Farcry properly. I know I'm way behind the times but my computer is a bit over two and a half years old now so I'm just getting round to games I didn't play at the time. :)

BF2 still & daily, It'll be 2 years in June if i am still playing it then & i've clocked up over 1600 hours. When ever i play anything else i am thinking "I could be playing BF2".
There are just so many different ways to play BF2 with all the different classes actually having quite different roles amongst the team. Then there are all the maps and variations of equipment and vehicles and now there are Infantry only servers as well. You can be flying a Jet off a carrier one minute strafing enemy bases and armour or you can be parachuting out of a blackhawk with 4-5 dudes over an enemy base to Cap it. In & out of tanks and APCs, gangs of lads steaming about in jeeps and buggys jumping out rifles cocked. Engineers repairing and laying mines, Proper snipers with decent gilly suits and excellent rifles taking peoples heads off. With other games the classes are just different skins but with BF2 you can proper get into the class you choose. Being a medic on infantry only servers is a favourite of mine. You get to drop meddy packs and you can defribulate dead dudes and bring them back. Medics have good sprint and you can drop packs around yourself, heal/revive but you wear no armour so it all evens out.
Anyway that's me BF2.
The only other game i play is RFactor the racing sim with my wheel/pedals and all that gubbings. A new mod has come out for that which is excellent, Race prepped Clios that handle and really suit my style. I've done really well in these online & have yet to be beat in a race.

I really enjoyed the BF2 demo and actually became a pretty decent sniper, but for some reason I never got the full game and I know if I tried now I'd get wasted by everyone with a lot of experience over me. I may try it at some point though and see how I do :)

WoW's never really dragged me in. I'll play it a fair bit but it's never really become a huge deal for me. Only really play it now because of some old counterstrike mates that play it.
EverQuest 1 dragged me in a fair bit between 2001-2003 but I'd still say I wasn't addicted to that either, still got A Levels, still had a reasonable social life and my bf at the time played it which was convenient :p However, I did think of EQ related things while in lectures ;D

Not true at all mate. I am pleased to say lots of new players have joined the ranks since xmas and many are coming back to BF2 after there stint on 2142. Besides that anyone can kill anyone in BF2 that is one of the many good things about BF2. Me i just can't get enouth of 64 man IO battles.
32v32 all tooled up kicking off, it's great fun. For total noobs to BF2 you just hang with a decent medic, he,ll look after you until you get grounded.

@Feek.

This is The mod to have at the mo, it is excellent.

RSc was down for a bit but ok now.

The box is in the control option for your wheel in RFactor, where you adjust feedback etc Iirc there is a slider for percentage, slide it all the way back to -100% that's minus 100%.

I think the last PC game I bought was FEAR, must have been well over a year ago now. Unless you count Halflife episode 2.

My expectations for STALKER are mixed. I was initially hoping it would be at least as good graphically as HL2 (which it looks like it might be), but the delays suggest that it's the gameplay that will be most affected.

Still playing Splinter cell 4.. I'm really enjoying this game. I love sneak 'em ups. There's really sod all coming out on PC at the moment.... STALKER is due this week but that's about it. It's the way things are going really. I expect PC games to become largely ports of 360 code (because as I understand it, porting between the two is relatively easy), bar the odd hardcore point and click franchise. Hardly my field of expertise though I'll admit.

Personally, with the way things are going I don't even consider graphics power important to my PC usage any more, I just want it to be quiet and run aero.

Admiral Huddy
21-03-2007, 16:08
oh I don't doubt it at all... It's what MS wants.. a uni-platform but it's not going to happen all the time they hold games back.. despite the extra effort that may be required to port the code.. I would like to see proper road maps for games.. However, like COD3, I doubt we'll ever see many of the 360 games on PC. Which is a shame.

Belmit
23-03-2007, 14:29
It's a sort of first-person shooter with strategy, similar in some respects to Deus Ex. You have to complete missions in the wastes surrounding the Chernobyl incident where strange mutant creatures have started appearing and radioactive anomalies occur. I've barely touched it yet but so far have got myself a shotgun and some food and banadages and have some missions to complete. It's interesting in that your gun will deteriorate over time and start jamming, so you have to find a new one, amongst other realistic annoyances. You have an inventory system very much like Deus Ex and can search dead people for new stuff. The graphics are slightly less impressive than Half-life 2 in my opinion but hopefully it'll become more emersive and that won't matter so much. Quite enjoying it so far!

Hopefully once I've got my feet established and my financial situation in game settled I'll start looking at life in the unprotected 0.0 regions. Thats where the game really comes to life, working together for the benefit of every player in your alliance, REAL PvP combat that makes a difference every day to everyones gameplay.

Belmit
26-03-2007, 13:10
I'm really getting into it now. There are frustrations with it, like still being active in the game while accessing your inventory or PDA, so you might be changing guns when suddenly someone puts a bullet theough your head, but overall I'm happy with it. You get a fair bit of freedom regarding whether you go for the main story straight off or do side missions instead, but what I thought was going to be an open landscape where you just explore and have to find a place to bunk down for the night etc. is more of a penned in affair where you can't cross barbed-wire fences and have to have done certain things before progressing past barricades and deeper into The Zone.

I'm also a little disappointed that you can't fix up and drive the battered vehicles that litter the place, as promised in the trailer vids. Lomping for kilometres, killing bandits all the way to reach a mission destination and then having to turn around and head back for the reward can get tedious. Even if there were just some quad-bikes or something it would have been better.

There's something about the game that just feels unpolished, but maybe it's because it should have been released about two years ago.

On a more positive note, the fact that weapons deteriorate and that you get hungry etc. are nice touches. You can't just load up with ammo and head out into the wilderness or you'll end up dying of hunger, radiation sickness or a bad case of gun rot! I've also recently found my first gun with a scope and I'm pleased to find that you can remove the scope and put it on a new or different gun if you favour one over another, or your current one is falling apart. I've just been given a great protective suit that defends against most climate based injury - rads, chemicals, burns etc. but my next mission takes me into an abandoned lab with 'psi-activity'. In other words, stay longer than a minute and your head bursts. No idea how to get around this one yet!

I've been playing Test Drive (I decided to finally teach myself to play a racing game without auto-gears and I'm getting there, very slowly) and Stalker. Both good games, I reckon.

One thing about Test Drive - is it worth shelling out for a steering wheel or is a keyboard good enough?

I bought mine 2 years ago and went for a Logitech Formula Vibration wheel that now seems to not exist according to their site ;D
But at the time if I'd had the money I would have gone for a Logitech Momo.
Logitech definitely seem the best bet for wheels imo.

I'm actually going through Guitar Hero 2 on Hard at the moment, but Lynne hates it so I can only really play it when she's in another room/in bed so it's fairly slow going. Got 5 stars on every song on Medium, but Hard is completely another level, adding in that 5th button really throws me at times.

With that in mind, what wheel would you recommend? I'd love a G25 but unless it really, really is amazing, I'd like to save some money :)

I've got an old logitech formula force Ferrari jobby lying around here. The pedals died a long time ago but it's got analogue paddles you can use for throttle/brake anyway. It's been on freecycle for a week or so and the only person who showed an interest hasn't come to get it so it's yours for the cost of postage if you want it.

Davey - I've literally had one attempt at a song on medium so far and found the step up to 4 buttons a struggle. Did you use your little finger for the 4th button or were you moving your hand about? I guess for 5 buttons you're going to have to move your hand anyway so I'm leaning towards trying to learn that technique from the start.

Coool! Aparently if you can play guitar it is supposed to be harder, but I find my guitar skills useful for changing buttons etc.

Have you done the Top Gear theme tune? (Jessica) It looked proper hard when Phil did it. And that was on easy :/

I use my little finger for the 4th button, which I find makes things much easier. When I move onto the Hard level songs I position my hand on the right of the buttons, and use my 1st finger for the 1st and 2nd buttons (unless I need to use two fingers for a chord). It's got to the point now though where I move around with my fingers as needed, I have a good idea in my head where my fingers are most of the time so I can move around with less problems. :)

It does seem to be the case that guitarists find it harder. Drz played it when he was here for the Liverpool Meet, and despite being a good guitarist he really struggled on it. I used to play myself, but not to a good standard, and have found that the finger dexterity I gained definitely helps.

As for Jessica, I can play it perfectly on Medium level, and not got that far yet on Hard (though I suspect to start with it will kick my ass, I'm passing the Hard songs first time generally but almost always with 3 stars). :)

It really is a rental game I think. Going through the main game (the NBA Homecourt mode) will get you almost all of the achievements if you actually aim for them (as they're things like scoring 7 long shots in a game, or a certain number of double dunks, etc). With that done, you need to level up another character to level 10, which takes a few hours, and do the online achievements (play and win 10 in a row). When you've done all that, you may find you don't want to go through it again as there's not a huge amount of variation in the matches. You can't edit the tricks your character does, which is a shame as I enjoyed that in the earlier NBA Street games, so you always do the same tricks all the time, gets a little tiresome after a while.

Not sure what to do at home now. I should be going away any day now (should have been away 10 days ago), so I'm not keen on starting anything new. Maybe I'll just try to improve my Texas Hold 'em on the 360 for the next few days.

I have the unreal anthology and the Half Life collection to keep me amused offshore so I like to keep them separate from home.

I've gone back to the pc at the moment, and back onto Civ 4. I remembered I had a fairly well played game I hadn't finished (from about 6 months ago), so I loaded it back up and carried on from there. Now into the final 100 years, I've never played a single game of Civ this long before so I'm eager to finish it to see what happens. I pretty much have an entire continent to myself now after wiping out the 3 other countries who had the audacity to try to share it with me. I'm pretty far ahead technologically as well, as I have Modern Armour (tanks) fighting against Riflemen, but they're all well defended by cities so I've had to use bombers to wipe the city defences out before going in. Not enough time left to score a domination victory (controlling the majority of land), so I'll see if I can win the space race instead :)

I've been playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance since last weekend on the PC. Completed once and part way through a second run at harder level.

Thing is, this game is ridiculously unbalanced when it comes to Johnny Storm. I completed the last game playing him 99% of the time (managed to kill him twice through stupidity). All I really had to do was walk into the room and hit "2" repeatedly until every enemy was dead. I was killing them in split-seconds. No other character seems to have a power with that level of damage. Combine it with a maxed out flame damage bonus on his modern uniform and I was 10 hitting Boss mobs with him. No one else even got a look in. Its a ranged attack so no one got close enough to hit me, and its energy needs were small enough that when I'd killed a couple of mobs the energy bonus they gave me was enough to cover the deficit. The only time I didn't have to use that was when I was deliberately building up momentum on all my team. I can't believe such a ridiculously powerful ability made it into the final game! I'm now playing it through again without using Johnny as my primary character (he's on the team 'cause his melee with fire damage is reasonable) Good game, the CGI cut-scenes are really well done and voice acted, the general controls are fairly well realised, though frustrating at times. Gets a general thumbs up, just don't use Johnny unless you're out for an easy ride!

If you want an easy run through then use Silver Surfer :D His ranges attacks are very powerful (though a few people have slightly better ones), his area effect lightning attack is powerful and has good knockback (so great if you get surrounded), and he has the added bonus of being able to heal everyone on the team for mucho health, all without ever really denting his energy levels. Meh... The Human Torch > Silver Surfer still in combat. I'm thinking Johnny is so overpowered maybe I'll see if I can knock up a video to demonstrate how ridiculous it is! I've got this remote explosion power that triggers every second for 120+ damage on multiple targets for pities sake. Not many people can stand that for too long, and a long range fireball power that hits for about similar dps, all without even stressing his energy levels.

Ah, but Johnny can't heal himself and the rest of the team can he? ;)

I do agree that he's very strong though, it took me until his Simulator mission to find that out as I never used him before that. Same goes for Iceman, another hugely powerful guy (his Ice Shield slows anyone down if they come near him) that I never used until his mission.

I like VT3, enjoying the mini games though I find the actual tennis matches a bit too easy. It has to be fun though or I'd never be able to get most of the achievements for it (and I do plan on getting most of them) :)

No rush with Condemned, though when I get it back I'll be printing off a guide to all the birds etc so I can go through it once and get most of the achievements in one play through :)

NHL 2K7 arrived for me yesterday as well, should be easy enough to crack on through that and get all of the offline achievements. Severely doubt I'll bother going for any of the online ones.

Wait till you get to the King of Players tournament, I tell you if Tim was a good as he was in that game he'd been world number 1 in no time :p

For me it did start to get very repetitive as I was ranked 3rd in the world and couldn't get past Tim to get the number 1 spot. I'll probably get it again soon just need a break from it I think.

Prince of Persia is good, been playing through and quite enjoying it.

I'll look forward to that :) I love challenging tennis games but I've never really had one. I only ever lost 1 match in Top Spin 2, and that was to a top player when my character was low ranked and low skilled. They all seem to need a certain style of play to beat them, so it's just figuring out that style. From what I know of serve and volley players, against Tim I'd do everything I could to keep him at the back of the court, then pass him as he approaches the net. In games it's generally very hard to lob a net player (though it was easy in Top Spin 2), so I wouldn't want him to get set at the net.

Sounds like fun though :D

leowyatt
14-06-2007, 13:20
Yeah forget lobbing him he'll just smash it. If you get the nack let me know as I can win every tournament now relatively easy with a similar pattern of play but that one got me. I'll come back to it in a couple of months.

It certainly is fun, just wondering what SG will send me next ;D

Ah, but Johnny can't heal himself and the rest of the team can he? ;)

Why would he need to? Johnny can take out almost all enemies (except Boss spawns) before they barely even scratch even him. Even against the Boss spawn he's triggering off the health & energy globe spawn within a half dozen shots! :D

Going Chronologically backwards in games (I believe), next on my list is X-Men Legends II

I see what you mean. I got to 2nd in the world, beating everyone and winning everything, and played against Federer in the King of Players tournament. I was ahead 4-1, coasting as I had his game read perfectly, then he went superhuman on me, smashing the ball at lightning pace and getting to everything I could hit at him, and he won 6-4. I guess it's another year or two around the training sessions improving my skills and then I should be able to take him. Even when he went superhuman I was getting close in each game, so if my player skills were better I can hopefully get past him.

Oh look.. Johnny Storm is a near carbon-copy of Sunfire. Fancy that :)
Sunfire doesn't seem quite as over-powered though with his ignite ability.

Ugly as sin graphics, considering the game isn't actually that old (2005), not a mipmapped texture in sight! Thankfully Nvidia allows you to set custom graphics settings, so I've got this bumped up to 4x Aliasing, and 4x Ansiotripic filtering, and everything else set to high quality to at least smooth things out a little :D
It really does hint that M:UA is just using a tweaked version of this engine though, even down to that utterly bizarre split down the middle of the characters faces. Here's hoping the next version of the game gets past that uglyness.

As i'm away from home the uber gaming rig can't come with me :(

But I am now going through all the amiga/megadrive classics on my crummy work laptop and a wireless gamepad o/

I have had a go of theme park on the DS this morning and it actually looks pretty good. This really could be a grower as it looks like the old rollercoaster tycoon. I can see myself losing a few hours on this.

Mario kart is very good as is Rayman on the DS. I think the mic is broken on my DS lite though as I can't blow up ballons on Mariokart. How do you unlock extra tracks on mariokart though? Its been years since I have played it as i've never owned anything nintendo before this

Definately agree.. the cell shading effect on the characters works perfectly, its just the lack of texture detail and mipmapping that lets it down. To be honest, with everything turned up quality wise and forced ansiotropic filtering, even the shiny blurryness somehow suits in with the comic style :D

If you finish X-Men 2 then definitely get the first 1, I prefer the storyline of it and felt it had a little more to it (though that's possibly because it was new as I went through the games in order).

At the moment I am playing Colin McRae DiRT with the Official Microsoft Wheel.

I must say, if you have the wheel, buy the game. If you have the game, buy the wheel. It's a brilliant sensation (though far from perfect - I'll write why in a review later), and probably the best fun I have ever had with a wheel. It's definitely more fun with DiRT than Forza2 and gaming is supposed to be about fun after all.

If DiRT had better multiplayer I would seriously recommend people to get both, but you won't be playing Single Player DiRT forever unfortunately.

I've got Guitar Hero 2 to master, finished Easy before I left so need to 5* it and work on Medium.

Heh, I know that bit well. Are you taking the arrow guys out first with your own bow and arrows? That makes things so much easier then, it's simply a matter of timing after that.

And I must admit I may go back to NG today as well. My back still hurts while sitting on the PC, but sitting on the couch is nice and comfy, so it's a convenient excuse to finish NG:Black and make a proper assault on all the challenges :)

Beating Alma is all down to timing. If you study her attacks and get used to them, you can dodge everything and fight her for half an hour and never get hit. Then it's just a case of timing your attacks when she's vunerable. The best time is when she's stood on the floor. Rush in at her and use the Flying Swallow. If you hit her you'll put her on her arse, which is time to use the Izuna Drop (XYXXXY) on her. It'll take a good chunk of her health off her, but she'll be pissed, so retreat, start dodging, and do it all again :)

Been managing to split my time between Forza2 and Just Cause now :)

Was playing JC last night on a mission where you have to drive up to the top of a volcano where there's a nightclub and kill this dude. So I'm driving up, fighting off the bad guys when my car catches fire. So I jump out guns blazing. I'm backing away from these guys when I walk off the side of the cliff....great!!!

So I'm stuck on this ledge with no way to get back up so I decide to give up, jump off the side and open up the parachute. As I'm gliding down I see a building and head towards it. What's on top? A chopper :D

I land by the building, climb to the roof and jump in. I take off and fly to the top of the volcano where I gain as much altitude as I can just so I can jump out and freefall into the volcano club. I open my chute, glide down and I land right by this guy. Shoot him to pieces and jobs a good'un.

At the moment, God of War 2 on the PS2, and NHL 2K7 on the 360. That'll be until later today when (hopefully) Bioshock arrives. I'm sure that'll dominate the bank holiday weekend for me :)

Bit of a thread resurrection, but just curious to see what's keeping the gamers busy at the moment :D Well before, all the 360 gamers say 'Call of Duty 4' ;)
I'm just acquiring a copy of FM2008 because I've resisted long enough, about time I wave goodbye to everything including my sleep pattern ;D

As well as that I'm trying to settle on one game to play through on the 360, at the moment I'm rushing through Harry Potter to get some points (probably the only time I will ever go near to that franchise :p) and then I dunno. Maybe Condemned or The Darkness.
Since finishing Eternal Sonata, I've felt a bit of a gap for what to concentrate on.

Funnily enough I started on FM2008 last night and I've already started to feel the pull of it again, thoughts of tactics and transfers have been filling my head most of the day. Hoping I can turn Everton into a European powerhouse team like I've done in all the other games so far :D

Beyond that, PES2008 is still taking up a fair bit of time, and I need to go back to Tiger Woods 2008 as well as I really like that. COD4 will obviously be the main game from Friday though, at least for 2 weeks until I get Mass Effect/GH3/Assassin's Creed :)

I was reading about FM2008 on another forum so it's encouraged me to give it a go :D
Amazing how addictive it can get even after all these years when you throw in the old Champs too.

Still playing Oblivion on the 360. It didn't help that I bought Shivering Isles and finally finished the main quest and most of the side quests. I don't want to buy any games just yet as I know I'll never play them until I finally get round to completing Oblivion again.

I loved Oblivion the first time through, but I think I played it too much, I put nearly 300 hours into it and by the end it was almost boring. It's been at least 6 months since I played it now and I've got it on the PC so I may re-install it and go through it again :)

Bump for this.

I'm playing through Gears of War (PC) and have just started Crysis.

GoW is proof that a really simple game idea (find cover, crouch, shoot, throw frag, repeat) can really work. Great game. :)

Always good to see this thread bumped :D
I've given my freetime and soul to Mass Effect for the foreseeable future :D I love it :D

GoW was a great experience the first time round, really simple but fun :)

Well my EVE career has been reinvigorated recently.

First there was talk of an Alliance between several corporations and in a few weeks I shall be forming and heading up that Alliance :)

Secondly, I have collaborated with Meds and we are now on the way to be making some serious money (current estimates are between 2 and 3 billion with current blueprint stocks).

Thirdly, I am disgustingly rich again, with the prospect of becoming even more disgustingly rich :D

Life is good, apart from having to wander around collecting tons of minerals from different stations in my freighter which is s-l-o-w :( But then again, I get to have fun in missions with my awesome Nighthawk :)

Started playing Airbourne last week.. I have to admit despite the negative comments it's received in the press, I'm really enjoying it.
