View Full Version : Oblivion - wtf are my horses going?
Been playing through Oblivion a lot this past week and quite enjoying it. I don't think it's quite as amazing as some reviews I've read made it out to be but it's fun which will do me just fine :)
However, I keep losing my horse.
First of all I bought some fast horse after gaining a fair bit of money playing in the Arena, then one day I left a city and he wasn't there waiting for me at the gates like usual.
So I gave up and bought another one, same thing happened.
Have I just got to wander round trying to find my beloved horse? Or am I just screwed now? I've checked the stables of the city, and no sign.

Sorry but ;D
The ones I stole all ran off. Not sure if thats whats happening with yours though. I'd get off mine, go kill something and turn around to find it wandering off.
I've had that with the ones I've stolen, but I bought these :(
And they acted fine for a while, and have now just vanished.
Horses obviously don't like me ;D

It may have been that you fast travelled to somewhere while your horse was out cold. The horses do like a fight and get knocked out quite often, and if they're knocked out and you fast travel away they lose track of where you are.
I lost Shadowmere (speshul horse you get given, I won't spoil it) for about three weeks once, until I got a console message saying he had returned to *place where I was given him*

I never bought a horse, so never had one run off on me. I remember when I got Shadowmere, my other horse walked off very slowly and sadly, I felt awful for abandoning him :/
May I introduce the all important mod:
DUDE, where's my horse? (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2269)

Awww poor little horse.
I;m playing it on the 360 so can't use any mods :( Pity as that mod looks fantastic Garp! Just what I need.
Horses are overrated... unless it's the Shadowmere. It fights for you and doesn't die!
No... it serves as motivation to finish your damn quests ;)

a-ha!! Unlike Mohinder, Mel has no qualms about spoiling the surprise for you!! :p
;D
Ah, but there's no indication of how you actually get Shadowmere, that'd be the spoiler :p
I have Shadowmere now :D
Still RIP poor little other two horses :p
After the being surprisingly noble Thieves Guild Quests it's nice to be able to just kill anything in the Dark Brotherhood :D

When i had/played Oblivion i got in loads of trouble stealing and killing anyone & anything.
I had to restart loads of times because my char got to hot. Talk about pick on a dude, every time i entered i got rushed with people shouting thief murderer criminal.
It was far to realistic for this x crim so i bailed and sold it ;D
It's a good game and got some nice touches to it :) But I'm not sure if it's the be all and end all of RPGs that some people make it out to be.

Shadowmere's actually surprisingly tough :D
He can ruck a bit, for sure. I thought all the horses just got knocked out as opposed to dying?

Nope, Shadowmere is the only one who doesn't die :)

Oh... I could never afford one so I walked, then got given Shadowmere :D
I ain't spending 3k on a horse! **** that
I spent 5k on the first one I lost. :(
At least I made it from the arena battles.
The Oblivion gates are a bit tedious :/

Oblivion gates are super mega gay, worse than the dullest caves. They're all the same! Some good loot in them though.
If you complete the main quest, can you still go back to doing sidequests? Or does it just end there and then?
I want to get my money's worth ;)

You can still do everything once the MQ is done. Only thing changes is no more random oblivion gates out in the wilderness which is nice in that you don't randomly run into big ugly hell creatures who want to eat you, but bad in that you can't pop in for a bit of otherworldly loot and a daedra heart or two.
Excellent :D
Was worried you'd get to the end and it'd just go 'right, bugger off' like too many RPGs do.

Oh, everyone calls you 'champion' and stuff and kisses your arse a bit in the cities once you've finished as well, but it's minor stuff really that changes.

Agreed. The best way to do them is to build up your Illusion magic and then get yourself a 30 second Invisibility magic spell. Simply cast it and leg it from one door to the other. By doing this you can do a gate in about 5 minutes from start to finish.
Found one of them :D
The cheap horse was dead outside an Oblivion gate by Leyawiin.
It wasn't called Lassie was it? Going for help while you were trapped in a dungeon?
I like to think he was trying to save me :D
An honourable death then.
I saluted him as I walked past. Poor little Paint Horse, I should have let him be a stud really.
Just read about a new expansion pack for Oblivion, The Shivering Isles (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=649962), should add around 30 hrs of gameplay and 10 achievements. Looks like it could be good, but not sure about the price (2400 points for the 360 version ), it's out 27th March.
Bit pricey for a download :/
That's about £25 isn't it?
It works out at about £20, same price as the PC version.
I'll have to see a few reviews before I fork out that much for a download.
Same here. Seems a bit pricy :/ Oblivion new is only £20 in a few places!
hmm should I get oblivion on xbox360? or PC?
PC... totally. I've played it on both. If you have one that can handle it that is. My computer is currently a piece of poop and shuts down when it uses too much resources... so i haven't been able to play in a while. will be fixed this weekend though thanks to my sugar daddy boss!
PC should be more than up to it.. but its upstairs all on its own in a poky office. Console takes pride of place in the social lounge ;) Actually, I should save money - I hardly have to time to play anything at the moment anyway ;)

I've played it on both and don't think there's much difference really. It really depends on whether you're more comfortable in front of a console or PC I think. As Mel said, don't bother getting it on the PC if it's not good enough to run it properly, you'd be better getting a 2nd hand copy for the 360 and enjoying it that way.
I got £15 voucher for virgin megastore - wanna use it for a game or something...

I've sold all my bits from my gaming rig, today actually, and can't live without Oblivion. I bought it for 360 and it's fantastic, it works wonderfully on the console.
There's a couple of mods I'll miss though. But if you want to play in the lounge, don't hesitate in getting the 360 one, it's more than satisfactory :)
Visually it's superb, too.
Bloody hell that main quest ends a bit sharpish
Decent game, just expected it to go on a bit longer :) But I guess the main strengths are the wealth of side quests which I'll now be getting on with.

I played it for about three months solid without touching the main quest at all, I wouldn't worry - the main quest is no more important to the playability of the game than say the mage's guild storyline... they're all about the same length, and the MQ's far from the funnest - DB is much better :D
I held off the main storyline until I'd got all the other achievements. It just felt like the right thing to do, like I wasn't yet worthy or something!

That's what I did. :)
Maybe I just played through it too quickly. I am more of a fan of Japanese RPGs though.
Just been reading about The Shivering Isles, got a feeling I'm going to end up getting this even though it's rather pricy for a download :/ But I guess £20 for an expansion pack is quite common.
I thought I'd lose interest in Oblivion once I finished it and the other achievements but I've not, so I'd love an extension.
I'll probably end up getting it as well, got all the other expansion packs bar the horse armour one.
I normally find myself going back to Oblivion every month or so, think I’ve got over 500 hrs in total. I was going to start over with the Knights of the Nine quest but I might wait for the Shivering Isle and do both at once.
I am more of a fan of Japanese RPGs though.
I think Enchanted Arms was the first Japanese RPG I've played (unless you count PS IV), I tend to play sci-fi RPGs for some reason. Just started playing one of my all time favorites again, Fallout 2, that should keep me quiet for a while. :)

I love Fallout 2, cracking game, may have to start it again myself soon :)
I've got one of the Oblivion packs, the one for M something or other Razor. I'd love to get the others but it's the price that makes me less keen, I'm sure I'll end up with them all before the year is out though. Knights of the Nine definitely interests me.
I've never played Fallout 2, read a lot about it but never got round to playing it. I'll have to sometime soon. :)

Mehrunes Razor :)
Jen, Fallout 1 & 2 are both superb games, I think the first has a slightly better story but the second plays a bit better (if you know what I mean). I'd definitely recommend playing both if you get the chance. :)
Bro, if you're looking at playing Fallout 2 again check out No Mutants Allowed (http://www.nma-fallout.com/) and have a look for the MIB88 megamod, it completely changes the game adding new content, characters and weapons (I think). I gave it a try and it looks good. :)
I think I might have a copy somewhere so I'll give it a go over Easter and let you know what I think of it. :)
Also might try to pick up some 360 point cards for the Oblivion expansions when I trade some stuff in next week, depending on how much I have spare after Theme Park.
Well the Shivering Isles is out tomorrow, ironically on the same day as the maintenance downtime. But as I spent my spare credit after Theme Park on Crackdown, I don't think I'll be buying it :( Can't afford it atm :/
Oh and I found my copy of Fallout 1 Priest :) So I'll be trying that soon.
I'll probably end up getting this later, but I've still got Open Season & Cars to work through so I'm not sure. So many game, so little time. :)
I was looking for my copy of Fallout at the weekend but couldn't find it :( but I found a copy of Fallout collection in Gamestation for a tenner. :D
If you like Fallout and fancy a go on number 2 let me know, I've got a spare now. ;D
Thanks for the offer :) might well take you up on that :D
I see you playing Oblivion......what's Shivering Isles like? :D
Not sure yet, was going to have a look but got caught up in the Nights of the Nine quest. :embarassed:
I'm going to try and hammer that today and have a blast on Shivering Isles tonight.
I want to get that quest too :D Ahh so much to buy, so little money ;D
Just downloading Shivering Isles now \o/
Ty to my Aunt for giving me the money to afford it :D
Can't quite afford Knights of the Nine though.
Still haven't got around to playing it properly yet. :embarassed:
Completed Knights of the Nine which was quite good, and gives some nice armour & weapons.
I found a way to remove the patch they released a while ago, after updating it removed a load of stuff from me that I wanted (Aszura's Star, Fin Glea & a load of magic weapons armour), managed to load an old save and store them all. I lost a few levels and Ill have to redo a few quests but it was worth it for what I got back. :D

I loved the Azura Star, was great for refilling the magic items. Using my staff of paralysis+Umbra I could fill the Azura Star almost at will :)
I've played a bit of it and it's good fun :) Definitely have to get Knights of the Nine next time I have money spare.
Every time I play Oblivion I realise how little of the surface I've scratched really :embarassed:
It's not my favourite RPG but it is good fun. :)
Just been looking around UESPWiki and found that there's a serious bug in the Shivering Isles on both PC & XBox.
See Shivering:Reference_Bug (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Reference_Bug) for more info.
