View Full Version : Driving test tomorrow - 3rd attempt and I am crapping myself now
I am REALLY nervous, more nervous than the last 2 attempt. The strange thing is I am more prepared, and a better driver than i was in the first 2 test. I had switched instructor, got rid of some bad habits, driving more confidently but right now I can't think of nothing else but the test.....................I can almost throw up, its that bad.

Seriously calm the hell down, i know it is easy for me to say that but it is really important. Just remember that you are so much better than you were before, it is not the end of the world you have already proved that by doing this before.
I sat my second test 2 days after getting my back tattooed, i was in pain, covered in cream and had just had an injection in my butt (my instructor was waiting outside in the car for me to drive to the test centre when i got it) thought i was going to fail i was sick with nerves.
During the test i hit the kerb and thought that was it, after i drove like it didn't matter as i thought i had failed so the pressure was off.
My advice, go cook or make something amazing then get your arse into bed. Worse thing in the world is being stupidly tired and trying to concentrate.
The test is the last one in the day at 3, so i won't get picked up til 2. Got the day off so i will/should get plenty of rest (8+ hours). But I've been thinking of nothing else but this for weeks now, really need to pass too if i want to get a job outside this town.

STOP THINKING ABOUT IT LIKE THAT! :)
You are putting more pressure than you need to on yourself. Even if you don't do as well as you could, phone up everyday and see if there are any cancellations. (That is how i got my second test so quickly, i didn't really have time to think about it.)
You and your instructor think you are ready to sit the test. You have the incentive to pass, it shouldn't be a pressure, once you pass you have more oppertunity.
I will be sending you my magnetic P plates as soon as you need them. :);)

Drive like a maniac - if the instructor has his eyes closed in fear he cant see what you are doing and cant fail you :p
Seriously though, just relax and dont tell the instructor you are an alcoholic and you will be fine :)

I also only passed after I thought I'd screwed up (worrying trend?). Messed up my reverse around a corner but then the instructor reckoned another car had messed me up and asked me to re-do it, and passed.
I think the instructor makes a huge diff as well, hopefully you'll get someone better this time.
Anyway, look forward to learning how to actually drive once you pass, that's when it really begins!

Like lots of people here i thought i'd failed, I actually thought i failed before even leaving the test centre. Had to do a reverse bay park straight away and the car was over the lines so i had to straighten it up, it was a bit messy and notice him wrote something down. Then soon as I came out to a main road there was some kid on a bike, was about to overtaken him and then decided not to (got a minor for that for overtaking), and the sure one i thought i'd failed was when i stalled on pulling out of a T junction, luckily there was no car behind me and i did look around.
Apart from those i drove pretty well, there was a huge section of the test where i notice he didn't write anything down, that felt so good !
so 1 minor for clutch, 1 for reverse park, 2 for moving off (control) and 1 for judgement for overtaking.

When I passed, I stalled on a hill but when he told me I'd passed he explained that I recovered well so it was only a minor :D

You can get some minors for odd things. I was halfway through a 'turn in the road' (three-point turn) on a narrow country lane when a van came along and stopped because I was blocking the way. I got a minor for 'not waiting to see what the van was going to do'. Well he was either going to wait or plough into me. I also got at least one for 'not moving into 4th gear in a 30 zone' and another for 'not exiting the roundabout soon enough'. Que?!
During the test i was going in some residential area when i saw another learner was doing a 3 point turn in the road. She was half way into it and actually only need to move forward to complete it. But had stopped totally, so I kept going, I am sure if i had stopped it would've been a major. All the time i've been driving i never came across someone doing a 3 point turn in front of me. Luckly i made the right decision !

Think I got about 5 minors.
First test of course I got 5 majors.
But then that was the evil man who gave majors for overtaking a cyclist at 33mph (in a 30 zone?), trying to pull away in 3rd (and not stalling and taking about 2 seconds to recover) and other things that I don't recall!

First test i got 3 majors and 7 minors
Second test i got 2 majors and 15 minors
And then got ditched by my instructor which turned out to be a blessing.
Is it appropriate to mention I passed with no minors at all?
None? I thought that was impossible and they always gave at least 1 (which my sister got for taking too long to pull away at traffic lights lol).

Well done ! That's really rare, I asked the examiner and he's only had 1 guy who done that.
I passed first time with 8 minors :D
Was so nervous I drove past the test centre instead of turning back in, but cos I turned round safely, I only got a minor (can't remember exact description, but something like the retard box was ticked :D)
