View Full Version : my new toy
Well I finally decided which I was going to get with regards to the Dell vs Benq. After seeing that the Benq still hadn't fixed the 1:1 mapping issue and the WZ technology was a load of crap, the extra £250 just wasn't worth it. So I brought the Dell 24", which is a very very good choice! Its worth every penny.
The people who were moaning about it, well I think they want too much. Sorry for the pictures as they were taken with a nackered old digital as my other one is out of batteries.
To compare, my old 19" is on the right running my server. However I can switch between it running the server and dual screen for my main rig :D

Very nice indeed, I'd have had one of those if I'd had the space for it but I didn't so I got the 20" instead.
Niiiiice. Burble's 2x 24" Dells do look impressive - I need to get me some of that... but first I need to buy a house so that might have to wait :p
There's one of those on this very desk! Sadly, it aint mine :(

How much mate? Any chance of having a demo sometime.. :)
Will, I think Paul has me beat on that one, I don't think I could fit 2 of them on my desk.... although :D
Its £450 +£25 p&p from ebay or £515 from the evil shop :) Yep you can have a demo if you want.
Just read your other thread as well. I am going to have to upgrade to run this screen at 1920*1200. I have an opteron @ 3ghz and a very overclocked x1900xtx, but I can't see it cutting it. Still it will give your 8800gtx something to munch on.
Welcome to the world of big monitors. I have an Eizo S2110W and I want another. They've come down £100 but I doubt my mum would like me buying another one ;D (she hates me "wasting" my money on PC stuff).

They've been going for around the £300 - £320 mark.. I've been watching quite a few recently.. I got lucky cos the bloke I bought off someone let him down on MM..
Explain to me what the 1:1 mapping is?
1:1 mapping is where say you have an input signal of 1280*1024 but your monitor can display 1920*1200.
You have two choices, stretch the display to the full 1920*1200 but sometimes features, faces etc look stretched and odd. With 1:1 you literally only use 1280*1024 pixels on the screen with black bars (of unused screen area) around the image. This does become more of an issue with the bigger the monitor you are using.
Hence why a lot of people are pissed at paying 750ish for a benq that still isn't fully supportive.

I could have fit them on my old desk but on my current one I can't even fit the one 26", so i've had to go back to the 19" :(
The 27" version is currently on 25% off introductory offer.
Tempting, but having just laid out a load of money for a hotel, that's my treat money gone for the next three months. :(
Of course, if I get a bonus end of May, things might change.

I think that 27" is getting a bit big for a pc monitor. The 1900*1200 res is something that i've used in the past. Certainly dual monitors is something else, but getting that kind of raw size per monitor is pushing it a tad for me.
It's a valid point, I actually struggle much more using the PC on my 43in plasma than I do the ones on the 20in monitor. I think I'd cope though, and given my eyesight it might actually allow me to bump the resolution above my stock 1024x768. :)
The thing is I don't know whether I'd want 2x 19-20" square screens or 1x large widescreen.... I think I prefer having 2 separate workspaces. 2x 24" widescreens would seem a bit too "wide"?
There's a 30 something inch one I saw in the states with a Mac that looked awesome.
That'll be the Apple Cinema HD Display...

You need dual link DVI to drive the big one.
Yup that's what I was told.

With this 26'' Dell TFT, how far back from the screen do you need to sit for been picture ?
I am about 3'11" from the screen. You don't really want to be closer than that imo

Bargain!
You're not joking there. Having just jumped out of the DSLR market, I might jump in to this market. Especially with my current monitor showing some not so good signs recently.
We'll see. :)
I am not in any way miffed that 2 weeks later I could have got it for £100 less , doh! Still its a cracking screen and at that price its an absolute steal.
Been thinking about this all day (a year or so ago I'd have bought it already, so something's clearly changed in my thinking, which is a good sign).
My heart, as always, says gimme. My brain says do I really need it. The answer to that is no, not yet, but if my current monitor dies (and given that I've had a bit of trouble with it and know there's a problem with the VGA connector - though it's behaving at the moment), then yes, I'll need it - and if I don't get it now, it'll be more expensive later.
Bah. :/
Hit that BUY button ......... you know you want to
I do and i really dont need one ;)
I thought about it some more, but the offer finished early anyway, so I didn't click that buy button. :)
Think I'd prefer the 2707, but it has to come down in price a lot first.

That'll be the Dell then. And yeah, Zirax's is a 2407. I'm good at recognising those. :)
Looks like the one to me.
I like the Dell 24" monitors, hence why I have 3 (2 x 2405, 1 x 2407) of them :D
I do as well - though I don't have room for more than one, so I stepped up a size and got a 2707.

Yep thats the one Paul. I'm gonna have to get a bigger desk as I don't think 2* 24" will fit

I'm so reluctant to let the CRT go and hated the 206BW I bought..
Well my house is slightly less of a tip and I am about to rebuilt my main pc. So if you fancy you can head over and have a look at mine. What games do you play? I'll load them onto my new windows install and have them ready for you to play

As long as it plays Bioshock, STALKER and it looks just as good on a TFT at 1920 i'm sold.
It's just when I had the 226BW (sorry not the 206BW), there was jaggered edges and strecthing even with AA. :( It was a good job the PSU failed :D
That's because you had a 22" monitor at a resolution better off on a 20" iirc?

yup :)
Just installed bioshock and on my old 1900xtx and opteron setup its getting 30fps @ 1920*1200, i'm impressed. Not reinstalled windows yet either as I need a floppy drive. Looks ok to me
