Decided to buy a new case as the midi towers i had was just to small.. and certainly not big enough for an 8800GTX..

Went for the Thermaltake Kandalf.. VA9000SWA and it arrived last week..
Can you "adam and eve" that parcel force just left it round the side gate  Was not happy about that. Oh well..

Have to say i'm very impressed..

The case is huge.. about 560 mm deep.. I keep knocking my knees on it. :)

You see the size of that card... I still had some trouble getting it in. I had to remove the fancy "non-tool PCI clips" to get it in.

The only negative side is the cooling. The system temps are 10oc up on the midi case I had.. Since there is more empty space inside, the airflow from the front intake fan has further to go before it hits the chipset. So I've ordered a couple of additional 120mm fan including Kythe Karma bay. Hopefully they should arrive today

I had a bit of a tidy up of the cables and It's job well done I think.

Looks good but it seems to me that you have your CPU fan and your case fan working Against each other. Correct me if i am wrong but it looks to me as if you have your CPU cooler sucking air towards the front of the case and your case fan sucking air in the opposite direction out the back. Or is the CPU fan blowing air through your cooler towards the rear ?
I would have both fans drawing air towards the rear and working together.
Hopefully i am wrong and you can ignore me.

It looks like that to me too Pikey, if my brain is interpreting the fan blades right on the CPU.

I'll check that out tonight.. The orientation looks correct. The air is being pulled to the back then out through case fan.. There's only one way the CPU fan will fit on to the HSF....

That just confirms what i thought originally Huddy, it's on the wrong way round. You need to turn the cooler round then the rear case fan will add to the overall pull of air through the cooler and exhaust it out the back which would be perfect. As it is it's fighting the rear case fan.
Turn the Cooler round and you will make up the 10c you have lost.
I have that cooler myself and run two 80's in the front of my case with the 64 doing it's thing and a 120 exhausting it all out the back. Perfect air cooling.

If the case fan is exhaust, all is good. If not, it needs reversing.

Guys they both look like exhausts to me?

Both?

The rear fan is an Exhaust fan.. I'm drawing cool air from the front that extracting from the back..

The diagram on the cooler.. (below) clearly shows that the direction of airflow from the CPU cooler is heading towards the case fan.. which is extracting air out of the fan.

Meh.. both me and pikey must be reading the fans wrong :D

Just weird that the blades are different but me being wrong is cool as it means no switching around. Didn't mean to pick fault :)

No faults picked.. haha You did get me thinking which is good.. how else do we learn if not by error ? Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'm going to reseat the fan this weekend with a nice new layer on AS5.. I'll check the direction with some tissue.. Looking a the blades.. you aren't wrong.. it does appear to blowing in the wrong direction ..

If you're worried about the fan on the Freezer 64, yeah, it's a wierd one. Custom made, mounts and everything. Definitely blows through the fins though, as per the diagram.

looking at the fan very closely, if the fan rotates clockwise... then the impeler will push air through the fins to the back.... thus comparing it to the case fans which is blowing hot air out.

If the fan spins in anti-clockwise.. i'd expect the opposite..

BTW, that case is about the same size as my CM stackers. They both have two 12cm low-RPM fans front and back, and you won't find me complaining about temperatures. :)

What is your Mobo running at .. Got about 49oc at load here

Mark

48 on the Pentium 4. Haven't checked the C2D for a few weeks (was in low-50s when new, but might have gone down a degree or two since).

Old case would be about 5C more on the CPU, and 15C more on the disks (which appears not to have been very healthy for them).

Oh so 49oc is about right then?

Hopefully will have to 2 12cm fans on the front this weekend.

49C won't hurt it but seems a bit highish (depending on overclock). My E6600 is overclocked to 3.24 GHz and runs flat out, 24/7, at 40C with an Arctic Freezer 7.

I'd reseat the CPU if I were you, making sure you use the correct amount of AS5 - too much can be as detrimental as too little :)

No way I'm doing anything with my CPU - heatsinks scare me.

I do know my system fans are far from their maximum speed though, so there's headroom.

Oh sorry I may have mislead things. The 49oc is the system.. The CPU is running at around 40oc with both cores on full load.

That's more like it :)

still sounds high to me. . Maybe i'm just comparing to an old NF-7 i had which ran @ 23oc :) 49-50 sounds like meltdown !!

System temp higher than CPU temp sounds like there's some dodgy readings from whatever monitoring software you're using. Either that, or there's a problem with the sensor.

Nah it's normal for these mobos.
