View Full Version : GPS software needed
If I need to be specific (it usually helps) - Garmin City Navigator North America v7 or higher
Note - not City Navigator NT.
I checked garmin.com, and they list it at $140. I have no objections whatsoever to paying that, but there's a disclaimer - for domestic US market only. Now, I'm not sure if that means it won't work with non-US devices, or just that they won't ship outside the US.
So, I check the UK, using my favourite source - gpsw.co.uk...

**** me. No. Never. No ****ing way, jose. I'm not paing that. That's complete crap.
So, I need to either (a) figure out how to convince them I'm American (sending goods to the hotel might work - done that before), (b) find someone who *is* American, or (c) *cough* (you know the rest ;))

No version though. I can pull it down but am off to bed so you wont find out till the morning. That ok?
Have at it. They're protected so might need a keygen as well though.

Torrent that old there will probably be no seeders.
I'll see what Daz comes up with (thanks again Daz).
Why, thanks everybody (including Kitten). ;D

This (http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3592673/Garmin_Mapsource_City_Navigator_North_America_NT_V .8_DVD) ones 11 seeders and 25 leechers
This (http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3597263/Garmin_Mapsource_Metroguide_North_America_v7_-_No_unlock_needed) ones has 25 seeders and 15 leechers.
Little blip in the download overnight but it's almost finished now. Looks like version 8 if that's any good to you?
At ~1.6GB the problem is going to be getting it to you. Would a CD in the post be quick enough?
I've got disk space elsewhere if it'll help, but CD is good. Plenty of time - don't need it for three weeks. For once I've planned ahead.
Leo, I'll bear those in mind if needed later.
Thanks.
CD will be better, I want to shut the server down this weekend as we wont be at home. Cant be arsed leaving it uploading :p
GARMIN MAPSOURCE CITY NAVIGATOR NORTH AMERICA V8.iso
Version 8 it is :) PM me your address dude and I'll get it posted over the weekend.
Bonus. That's the latest version then.
If it's any good, I'd still be prepared to buy it, but not at the UK price.
I'll reimburse you in beer tokens at a convenient point. :)
No need dude, I still owe you for those aerials :)
Ssshh - you could have stayed quiet and got free beer. :p ;D
There's also an unlock code in here Mark :) Do you want me to burn both files to DVD, or burn the ISO and email you the code, save you burning it again?
Email's fine. Saves messing with ISO readers. :)
Good luck if you manage to make it work on the GPS unit itself.
Garmin have been particularly good with their unlock code system, the codes are tied to a specific serial numbered unit and although it may unlock on screen the chances are that it won't actually dump the maps onto the device.
There's been a wonder Garmin keygen suggested for a good few years but it's complete vapourware. As far as I know, their system still hasn't been cracked (but it's been a year since I checked, this may have changed).

Daz you little Newsgroup whore, get to the back of the line! :D
I know about the unlock stuff Feek as I've done it before. I'm still going to try and buy it but that doesn't rule out other options as a short-term 'fix' - if they fail, they fail.
Still need that address dude :)
I'll PM it to you on the morrow. I'm bound for the bed now. :)
LOL - thanks for the reminder.
It's here. Thanks dude.
Any chance of the key please, or is that on the DVD?
It's not sorry, I forgot. It's on the main rig, will it wait until tomorrow? :)
Feek was unfortunately, though certainly not surprisingly, correct. Works on the PC but not on the GPS.
T'was definitely worth a go though and many thanks Daz for the efforts.
Oh well, I ordered the real thing - at $110 inc. shipping, with exchange rates as they are, it's not going to break the bank. :)
