El Reg article writer buys a Dell computer and through mostly his own incompetence ****s things up and vows never to buy one again, and randomly advocates buying a Mac because of a bad experience with one PC vendor:

The comments are priceless, and I think this one sums up most people's feelings on the article:

YOU didnt read the spec, can't run your old drives, uninstalled the Dell software, have poor eyesight and can't answer your own front door. That's hardly Dell's fault. Build your own if you want something custom built.Funny stuff.

Edit: And how much did he spend on a system he describes as adequate for his needs?! Good grief.

This is a classic case for that old favourite

"Hello, Dell support"

"blah blah blah"

"Do you still have the original boxes?"

"blah blah yes"

"Well pack the computer back in them and send it back"

"blah blah blah is it that bad? blah blah"

"No, you're just too ****ing stupid to own a computer"

/edit - I will add though that Dell service tags can be quite tricky to read, even to me with perfect (corrected) eyesight - I've had to log calls for two Dell machines recently and each time I've managed to get a character wrong on the tag as I read it *sigh*

I try not to pick on The Register as it does occasionally report decent news but reading a 'story' like that makes me understand why so many people do. The man is quite clearly a numpty who didn't pay attention to what he was ordering, admittedly not everyone knows enough to check but working for a hardware reporting website it gives him no excuses.

The hardware tags are quite small but if he has eyesight problems then perhaps a magnifying glass or a pair of spectacles would help.

I sent a message to the El Reg Hardware Editor to suggest he pulls the article to save him and their embarrassment.

That article is a piece of crap.

Frankly - the Mac community can have him. The guy is a muppet.

Lets see how he gets on with his old hard drives in a new mac then. ;)
