Now I was enjoying a quiet drive back from the train station and got to a set of traffic lights. There are two lanes going into one. I pull up and then a Boxster comes in behind, fair enough.

Then a new beetle (complete with frickin flower in the dash) goes into the outside lane and deliberately stops ahead of me to try and get ahead when the lights change.
No frickin way love!!! Off goes the air-con, off goes the TC.

Well I zoom off the lights and she was left standing. The bloke in the Boxster was clearly miffed as well as he shot up her inside and followed me way into the distance.

So yes very immature. I know my motor isn't the fastest about, but dammit it can smoke some flower power hippy beetle off the lights :D

Lol, I was slightly curious of what a beetle thought it was going to do.... it was the flower that did it :D

If you see a left hooker with a picnic table on the back than don't count on beating it ;)

I was once driving in a spirited fashion along the A449 when I was absolutely embarrassed by a new shape beetle. Not one for giving up without a fight I engaged warp 9 and began a chase that would take me all the way to Cardiff Gate.

The owner had transplanted a Porsche turbo engine into it. I think he said 2.2 but I was still gob smacked that he was on what looked like standard wheels and brakes.

I'm giggling at the thought of the poor bug driver who just happened to brake a bit late at the lights and was relieved to have stopped before crossing into a stream of traffic seeing a pair of nutters roar off into the sunset!! :D :D

Surprised at that, its a relatively simple job to transplant a Porsche engine into an old shape Beetle as they were designed on pretty much the same rear axle, but the new shape has a front mounted engine and would be better off with an Audi lump, in fact you can stick twin turbos on the standard V5 3.2 if you want real excitement!

That's what I thought when I read the thread ;D My Dad did a similar thing to that the other day.

I take great pride in steaming past cars and having drivers do double takes, you can see them mouthing "eh? How do that do that", love it :) My car might look like a novelty toy but that just makes for more fun :)

I had a play with a mini on Saturday at the BMW dealership. It was just a cooper as they didn't have any S ones. It certainly changed my opinion of them, however I don't know if I could take a 3 hour drive in one :/

Should have posted about this on Sat, but I forgot. What I really could do with is a motorway slag like a Volvo/Saab for a moving armchair and then something more fun for the weekends. House first though, doh :)

So up (until a month ago) all Aston Martins were Fords, all SAABs still are Vauxhalls, all Lambos are Audis?

MINI != BMW

Mini is something on its own. Kind of like Nissan who sell cars like the skyline, 200SX and the Micra :(

Nope, not a BMW

Never

MINI's shouldn't be confused with Mini's either.

I guess it depends how pedantic you want to be though. Jaguars are ostensibly Fords now, and the Maybach is merely a chavved up Merc now owned by DailmerChrysler etc....

Heck Ferrari was Fiat at some point :p

You mean a MINI MINI as redesigned by BMW shouldn't be confused with an Austin Mini.

Will

I know but it's sold at dealers and appear in BMW brochures :p

However it is made by a subsidary company which is owned by BMW so to all intents and purposes it is ;) Furthermore the engine was partially developed by BMW :p

The MINI is made by a company owned by BMW end of, its not a BMW, if it were it would be called a X series BMW and have a BMW badge, granted Alpinas are BMWs without BMW badges but they are built on a BMW chassis.

The reason people call them BMW MINIs is to set them aside from the Classic Austin Mini, however it is not a designation of their origin as the factory which makes them does not and has not ever made BMWs, if it had or they were made on a BMW production line then I might relent but that's not the case. We don't slap GM on the front of SAAB, Cadillac, Vauxhall, or Pontiac so why do it with MINI?

It doesn't really bother me that much it just seems a little odd that people would think that it needs to be called a BMW MINI :/

When I speak about them I say BMW MINI as it seems random to shout MINI!!!

In writing it's fine as you can say MINI or Mini, and most people know what you're on about.

Actually, on a Mini forum I use, we call them Binis, which is even easier

You seem to be forgetting that BMW owners want no part in the labelling either....

BMW redesigned the Mini, sorry MINI. They did not build it. How many BMW 75s and ZTs do you see?

Did they redesign it? I thought they just bought the designs off Austin? Not that I pay much attention to the whole thing though.
