For destroying a garage Mics mother gave us some money.

Mic this looking at getting this (http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=78642).

He is basically after opinions or views on it or suggestions of other monitors of a similar price/spec.

Thank you.

I don't know terribly much about monitors but everyone who I know with one has been pleased, I think I might even have used one and it was good but it was quite a while ago so I don't know the model number. :)

Dunno about that model but I'm very happy with my Dell 2405FPW.

There were several dodgy batches of those doing the rounds. All 20 of the ones we bought in Sweden and most of the ones in one of the other offices (can't remember which) were knackered in some way or another - dead pixels, scratched panels and so on.

We sent the whole lot back.

That said, the ones that weren't buggered (so that's about 5% of the ones we bought) were fine.

As monitors go, Dell do a (generally) great job. You get more monitor for your money. But personally, i wouldn't buy it new, just camp out on the MM on le other place, i saw a 24" Dell go for about £300-350? recently, if i could afford it i would buy without a second thought!

The 24" monitors are great, I've got 2 of the 2405 and 1 of the 2407 here at home.

The earlier 20" widescreens, the 2005 had issues with dodgy backlights so I'd be warey of buying one of them second hand but the 24" screens seem pretty reliable.

Exibit A (http://forums.ove*************.uk/showthread.php?t=17722258)
Exibit B (http://forums.ove*************.uk/showthread.php?t=17715107&)

Both on the MM (sold) but theres an example of prices :)

//Edit: I'm not saying buy 24" i just realised i may have looked like that, what i meant was look at the money you can save!
24" From Dell direct... (http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=59234)

Thanks Alex.

I was thinking about getting another one of these in the near future. If they're selling for that sort of price in the MM, I'll keep my eye on there when I'm ready to buy.

Having read a few reviews about the E207WFP, the consensus from reviewers is that; although it's a decent enough monitor for everyday use, it lacks a bit for gaming, graphics intensive stuff or video playback.
Depends what you want to do with it really.

No problem, when i get a bit of money that i don't have other (generally more important uses for, like going out) i'm buying one. I've go my lovely new (awesome) laptop plugged into my aging sony TFT (its growing blotches now on light colours! hmmm...) now i need a nice dell monitor to match, and be better than my sony. :)

I live in the MM :D Some excellent deals to be had, i missed out on an almost replica version of my laptop on there for ~£150 less than i got it on ebay, and i saved ~£600+ by buying it on ebay (new) instead of from dell direct, it's unbelievable what people buy and then sell 3 months later! I could never do that, but im not complaining buying it at half the price!

You're not kidding. I bought my M1710 from a guy on the MM for £1300 - £700 less than Dell were selling the same machine for at the time and he'd only bought it, brand new, 6 weeks before

Ooooooh, is the 1710 good? I'm convincing my friend to buy one thats on the MM for £1400 (check the MM is probably front page or at most 2nd) Seems an excellent laptop, and as you say it retails for around £2050-2100 from dell... Reckon i could get cheaper from him, he lives in glasgow (next door on the train basically!) and my friend will pay cash in hand... Is it worth pushing him?

I think the MM's the only thing I miss about my membership over there.......then again it's probably saved me a fortune from not being able to impulse buy ;D

That one's better than mine - it's the newer spec (mine has the T2600 Core Duo processor at 2.16GHz, a "lowly" Geforce Go 7900GTX and only a 5400rpm HDD).

I would go for it, mine's bloody good - I haven't found a game it can't play at max res yet and that one is better than mine. If you're mate can afford it and he'll get the good out of it, I would do it if I were him :)

Excellent, yeah he can afford it, hes pretty lucky with money :p Not sure if he'll use it to its max but "he wants the best laptop" etc... I thought i'd do him a favour and save some money anyway.

I'm saving some money aside for the Dell 2407 (A04) which Zirax bought a while back... Currently around £410 plus P&P. I like that fact it has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 with 1:1 mapping.

Any more opinions or suggestions? Mic will probably be ordering whatever one he ends up getting over the next few days so advice would be muchly appreciated

My only experience is with the E195 which is last year's model, but just from that I'd be a little careful with the value range if you're into gaming (as I know Mic is). The E195 suffers badly from slow response times, and while it's OK for word processing or web browsing, gaming with it wouldn't be too clever. I suspect that Dell use previous generation panels in them, so hopefully the E207 uses panels similar to the 2005WFP which was at least competent at gaming.

Had a bit of a look around and the Samsung SM-206BW seems to be a decent choice in that sort of price range. I couldn't find any professional reviews on it but the end-user comments I found on some sites seemed to be quite complimentary - might be worth a look.

The cheapest place I could find was Komplett (http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=331032&cks=ASS&assoc=D8029637-0DDA-48DA-9BA1-03B0D58EDEA7) who are selling it for £199 + postage (£6.75). A lot of places are out of stock but Komplett had 7 in stock when I looked.

Thanks for the responces but this has been put on hold for the moment as money needs to go to other things.
