View Full Version : Spec me a camera!
I have an ancient Fuji Finepix 2 megapixel camera that is beginning to show it's age. Can anyone recommend a cheap (sub £100) camera, preferably one with storage included and a docking station, i know i'm probably asking for a bit much though :).
Take a look here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp)
Might help you find models with all your requirements
Thanks, definately looks like i'm aiming a bit high with my requirements though. Just remembered that my laptop has a multi card reader thing on so not too bothered about a docking station now. Looks like i can get a Fujifilm FinePix A610 for around £70 delivered + 4GB SD card for around £25. Any comments on that?
What sort of shots are you going to be taking ?
Family / days out / holiday snaps really, nothing too taxing.
Ive read a few reviews and there really isnt much between all of the compact cameras around that price
If you could push your budget little more the finepix S5600 seems to be a very good deal and you are getting alot more bang for ya bucks with a camera like that
Just check the Storage size for that Fujifilm FinePix A610 as everything i read seemed to show 2gb max
It's another 45 quid though which is quite a lot extra considering the A610 was only 70. I didn't realise there was a size limitation on the camera though so that could well sway me a little. Is there anything that helps with redeye on the S5600?
I don't think you can really get a decent sub £100 camera these days. 4 years ago they had the Canon A70 for £99 but they don't seem to do that sorta thing now.
I'm leaning towards the S5600 pretty heavily at the moment. Will do a few checks later on what else i can get for that sort of money :).

5600 is a very capable camera for the money and sits in the 'bridge' territory between a compact and a DSLR, you'll have loads of options and a good zoom with that. As for red eye I'll put money on it having a red eye setting and I believe there are plenty of free photo editors which do red eye :)

I have plenty of apps to remove redeye it's just i'd rather not have to bother lol. Seems like a good one from what i've seen so far.
Thanks for the help all :).
Im not sure about the S5600 but the S6500 only takes XD cards not SD so you will need to check that too
Ive had my S6500 for about a week now and i am still finding setting that i never knew i had
2gb XD cards can be had for £26 pounds now so that is going to push the cost a little highter as well
Aye it's xd only, i'm looking at around 135 all in really so only a little over budget ;).
Oh dear what have i done.............please dont tell ya misses i was my idea !!!
:p
LOL she doesnt mind :D, think she'd prefer we had a better one anyway.
Well in that case go the whole hog and get the S6500 :p
:D, something better would probably be wasted on me.

there is a S5600 over on the MM at the moment £150 + postage (it has a fasir bit of extras
I honestly wouldn't pay that for the 5600 unless it had a HELL of a lot of stuff with it, the 6500fd yes but not the 5600, I'm sure Argos had it cheaper than that new!

MM deal...
There aren't £40 worth of accessories there when you play it off against losing at least some of the warrenty IMHO. Get Jessops to price match to Pixmania and then buy a bag and 2gb card online and your still within what he wants for it second hand.
Wouldn't touch it myself unless you can haggle to close to £125

Get Jessops to price match to Pixmania
If you're lucky. They'd never price match to online when I tried (though I admit I didn't try too hard). :(
Fair point about the rest though.

They were DELIGHTED to price match Dixon's for me after Dixons went 100% web distribution, I just phoned before hand and took a copy of the webpage with me :)
