View Full Version : Live Arcade/Virtual Console Thread
I keep banging on about them both (XBLA in particular), so I decided to just make a thread rather than randomly post elsewhere.
And to open the thread, we begin with some very promising news:
http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30512&
but how about Streets of Rage 2 hitting the Xbox Live Arcade? The ESRB thinks it'll happen, although the E rating is a little fishy...
http://www.seganerds.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/sor2xbla.jpg
Still, since this kind of leak is usually accurate, I'll be assuming that this is true.
G0t w00t? :D
Oh, and the Worms DLC is coming Wednesday (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/13593/Xbox-Live-Arcade-New-Content-for-Worms-Next-Week/):
Team17 has announced that the first release of downloadable content for Worms on Xbox LIVE Arcade is scheduled to go live on Wednesday, May 30, at 09:00 GMT.
The Space Landscape will be available free of charge while the Hell and Jungle landscapes will cost 150 Microsoft Points each. There will also be available for free a SoundBank Pack 1, which contains foreign language voices as well as a handful of specially selected Classic voices to vocally enhance your Worms.
Additionally, Team17 plans to release a desktop theme and gamer pictures.

Woo worms DLC :) \o/
Streets of Rage 2?
OMGOMG......pleaseeeeeeeeeeee :D
Ahem, worms DLC sounds good :)
I bought Mad Tracks :) Some good mini games that'll be great split screen or over live. 4 people in a room playing foosball or pool would get heated :D
Pulled the Worms DLC down too while I was at it.
Mad Tracks looks pretty good from what I've read :)
So many games I want to get once I've got the money for some points :D
Random post about Hexic - I really like it, basically a big logic puzzle, very little luck in it once you suss it out. Didnt come on my hard drive that I got on ebay and just thought it was lost until someone said in passing that you can get a code from support to re-download it. Took a couple of calls but I got it, and I'm glad I did :)
Achievement wise all I should be left with is that surround a tile with 6 black pearls. Just dont think I can be arsed :p
Hexic is good fun :) Not got many achievements for it but it's enjoyable to pass the time. Anything involving black pearls is a pain in the arse to get.
I like Hexic too. I find it good for the odd little play without getting too into it.
Also got Mad Tracks last night. Great little game with what seems like a lot of tracks and levels. Daz, we'll hook up one night for a spin. Got 2 controllers now so Piggy can join in too :D
Ditto here, I'll get Dee involved, we'll play team games :D
If you like casual games Des then get Uno, 400 points and perfect for slack playing, dont even need the controller, can play it with the remote :)
Oh, and FYI, Streets of Rage is one of this weeks VC releases. I smell a live arcade release round the corner....
4 player mad tracks sounds cool :D
Mind you, I'm still waiting for the banhammer :p
I bet you're living in fear :D
I feel a mini cahllenge coming on with some Mad Tracks lap times :p
Ooh, plan! Might be better than a lot of playing over live, as that bit seems a bit unfinished imo. No way to create a private lobby, and the lobby isnt persistant after a match - kicking you back to a menu. No good if you want a rematch :/
I kept checking your times yesterday and then oin into that race to try and beat them ;D
;D
I have a got time on Toy Race because I played it 20 times in a row to get that achievement :embarassed: I'm a sucka. Getting < 1:15 on Fast Food will be interesting though!

*Strokes Toy Race time*
I'll have a look later ;)
Interestingly we still have no news on tomorrows Arcade release (usually announced on Monday). Though some yank MS bod has said ""We have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history." - Referring to tonight (final of the Pac-Man tournament in NYC).
Blatantly oversold (short of a new console what could they say?), but maybe they're announcing a partnership with Sega, lots of old games coming to XBLA, starting tomorrow with Sonic.....
It's bloody Pac Man again :p
Today Microsoft Corp. and NAMCO BANDAI Games made video game history by unveiling the “Pac-Man Championship Edition” — featuring the first new Pac-Man mazes in more than 26 years — available only on the Xbox 360™.
The “Pac-Man Championship Edition” is the same beloved “Pac-Man” game played in arcades of the ’80s but is updated with new features that former “Pac-Man” fanatics and new generations of fans alike will love. It includes new mazes that dynamically change shape during gameplay, six new timed game modes, new soundtracks and high-definition (HD) graphics. Details include the following:
• Classic 2-D “Pac-Man” presentation with a new, modern look in HD
• Six new, timed game modes:
The Championship Mode. This is the main game mode designed by NAMCO BANDAI Games and Iwatani specifically for the championship round of the Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship. This mode – as well as all others within the “Pac-Man Championship Edition” – features redesigned mazes with wide maze walls and a widescreen configuration to better enable high-speed game play. Timed limit of five minutes.
-Challenge Mode 1 (Patience and Reward Course). This mode is an evolution of the Championship Mode. Patience mazes strategically offer fewer Power Pellets and Reward mazes provide a large number of Power Pellets – providing unique challenges and rewards for the player. Timed limit of 10 minutes.
-Challenge Mode 2 (The Darkness Course). In this mode, only the area directly around Pac-Man and the Ghosts is visible and the maze walls are completely hidden. Timed limit of 10 minutes.
-Extra Mode 1 (The Freeway Course). An extremely high-speed mode for advanced players, this mode features warp-speed Pac-Man and Ghosts and plenty of tunnels. Timed limit of five minutes.
-Extra Mode 2 (The Manhattan Course). A mode inspired by the streets of Manhattan — the home for the first-ever Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship. Timed limit of five minutes.
-Extra Mode 3 (The Overall Course). A mix of all other modes resulting in extreme mazes for the most devout Pac-Man fans. Timed limit of 10 minutes.

Yay, another pacman game. Real video game history there:rolleyes:
Bah, 800 points and no discount if you already own Pac-Man! Sucks.
3rd Pacman game for the 360, just a tad excessive :/

Aye, it's the first Arcade game to have DLC that actually adds some points to the game, 35 I believe.
Prince of Persia confirmed for next Wednesday for all you lubbers. It'll earn a trial download from me first I think :)
Not bad :) I'll get the trial too.
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/sonic2_esrb.jpg
Sonic 2 all but confirmed for XBLA, so long as it has co-op/versus mode (that running down a half pipe thing) I'm there. Achievement for getting all the emeralds and hitting Super Sonic? Yes please.
Publishing houses/devs must absolutely hate ESRB sometimes. It's become a real gold mine for unreleased/unannounced titles.
Bomberman Live :D

I'm seriously considering Prince of Persia :D
Speedball II is rumoured for August I read, which isn't very long considering it was only announced last month. Still no word on Sonic for XBLA, though Sonic II was released this week on the US Wii shop. Cant be that long now, surely?
Pacman CE demo is surprisingly good, considering I don't like Pacman. Might have to consider that when I have some points.
Where did you get the cool gamerpic btw Daz?
Which one? I changed it just before bed last night and I'm not sure which one you saw :embarassed:
The Bom Chicka stuff was off the us marketplace (called Axe over there if you go looking), my current one is a Shadowrun one, unlocked when you get the Shadowrun Fever achievement.
I also had a look at Pac-Man CE last night and quite enjoyed it, sort of Geometry Wars meets Pac-Man.
The Shadowrun one I meant :) Never realised it unlocked with shadowrun fever ;D
There's apparently an elf gamer pic that was handed out to the beta testers, I've yet to see it though.
I know the one :) Mate of mine's got it:

This Wednesday on Live Arcade we're getting Band of Bugs, which is from the guys who made Cloning Clyde and Outpost Kaloki X, both of which are talked about highly. It's been getting a lot of coverage this, as I believe its the first arcade game to allow sharing of content - specifically levels, created with the level editor bundled with the game. Should be interesting :)
I loved Cloning Clyde :D Simple but great fun.
I'll have to get the demo if my 360's got anywhere to go by Wednesday :D
F ZERO X!!!!
I screamed the house down on Friday! About time they released something half decent :)
Anyone played Band of Bugs yet? Any good?
It didn't grab me like I thought it would, though I think I overhyped it in my head. Typical NinjaBee styling and humour.
Not overly impressed on my first play anyway.
I'll have to get the demo and see. Working out what I want to spend my forthcoming points on :D But half tempted by Mad Tracks too.
Save some for Bomberman - should be live in a 2 or 3 weeks, if not next week. It'll be awesome over Live, that.
NokkonWud

Come July I believe we are getting Speedball 2!
That's the big one for me!
BOMBERMAN ROCKS!!!!
Deffo live purchase, it's gotta be :)
NokkonWud
22-06-2007, 16:53
Depends which version it is and whether it works well with the joystick for me. Too many games have been *too* twitchy with the stick :(.
It's a new version. 8 player Live play and new game modes, as well as classic ones :)
Oooh didn't realise it'd be so soon. Might hold on a week or so in case then.
I've got a fair chunk of the points accounted for, 800pts for name change. 800pts for PacMan C:E (Or possibly one of the 5 or so games I just downloaded demoes of) then not sure as I'll have 850 left including my current tally.
NokkonWud
22-06-2007, 22:52
What are you going to change your name to now?
I think I'm gonna buy the add-on for Crackdown, then possibly GRAW2. Not gonna get Castlevania now as they are releasing it (and the full version of the original for the first time in the west!) on the PSP.
Now I just have to find the PSP. It's disappeared since the house move in February.
Aaargh I forgot the add on for Crackdown, ooh it's tempting :/ So much I want to do with my points!
Changing my name to Haly x360a just for the site I'm on and because I've been wanting to be Haly since I got my tag on the original XBL, the c is just silly :p
Davey_Pitch
23-06-2007, 00:53
I was thinking of changing to Davey x360a but I'm happy enough with my name for now :)
It's the c that pisses me off ;D So seems a perfect opportunity to regain Haly :D

I was thinking of changing to Davey x360a but I'm happy enough with my name for now :)
I really don't like the x360a suffix' on names, you don't need to do it Davey, you ARE DaveyPitch, so it's pointless :D.
I quite like it really :)
Although I agree that Davey is DaveyPitch not just Davey :D
Carcassonne on the arcade this week. It's a board game, and it looks similar to Catan :/
http://aceybongos.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!34EFB79E92974FD2!5611.entry
Anything's worth a free look though of course!
I've got 1600pts spare :D
I'm thinking Band of Bugs and Pac-Man C:E
The Carcassonne has sold itself to me more than the Catan one did. I'll play a couple of games and see if it wins a purchase from me.
Pacman: CE is great :D Don't like normal Pacman but this one's faster and a lot more enjoyable imo. :)
Still can't decide what to do with the other 800pts but i'm leaning towards Band of Bugs as I like the idea of a strategy game.
So did I, but it hasn't done anything for me so far. Seemed a bit boring :/
I liked the demo but I know they can be misleading.
I need a game to keep me occupied this afternoon as Just Cause didn't arrive. Got to finish off X-Men for the review but it makes me want to tear my hair out after extended periods :p
Little heads up...Mad Tracks Encore pack is now available with the next set of tracks :)
350 points so not too bad overall. Only played a couple of tracks so far but looks like it's more of the same which is no bad thing.
Actually, after having a bit more of a play, the Encore pack is pretty good. The races tend to be a bit more complex. The settings are bigger and some of the race styles are quite different. You have your normal racing but also driving your way out of a filling well. Bobsleigh with only one bar of power ot use, the rest is down to gravity and ice. Slalom type race, getting through as many gates as you can. It's quite varied and should keep me going on MT for a while longer :)
Bah, Missile Command on Wednesday, I want Bomberman!
Anyone played the full versions of Feeding Frenzy and Mad Tracks?

Anyone played the full versions of Feeding Frenzy and Mad Tracks?Yus indeedy, what do you want to know?
Oh, reading up I see that Mad Tracks looks fun, but what about Feeding Frenzy?
I cant run Feeding Frenzy, it errors over VGA for some reason :/
NokkonWud
03-07-2007, 19:27
My mate really liked Feeding Frenzy, very easy though. I'd only recommend it if you're looking to bump the score up.
There are very few games imo which are even remotely worth the money in the arcade.
Geometry Wars and Castlevania, 2 of the finest games I've played in my lifetime.
Creature
03-07-2007, 21:49
Feeding Frenzy's an ok game. It's not the best, but it's nowhere near the worst. It's enjoyable for a bit, but the gets a bit repetitive.
Don't forget that I have two Feeklets who will be playing them!
Creature
03-07-2007, 22:14
Yup, they should enjoy them both.
More Worms content (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/07/04/worms-pictures-theme-and-in-game-content.aspx) if you're so inclined! Free music pack which does no harm, and some more landscapes :)
Sonic 2's out on VC today, maybe a reason to finally turn my Wii on :D
Also out is...
Golden Axe 2
Ecco 2
Dragon Spirit
I'm gonna wait for XBLA for Sonic 2 at least. 2 player over Live please!
I'm guessing that we'll see an official announcement for the Sega Vintage Collection next week.
Sensible World of Soccer dated (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=79086) - August 29th!

YES YES, ****ing superb! 1600 points gone in a stroke.
Yup :D
x360a seems to think that they might both be released tomorrow, but just have to see.
Haha Golden Axe. My first co-op game. Tho it was never co-op as my mate and I always fought over each power-up and we always got into fights when I called him a bitch. He was the women :D
Both released, both 400 points, both purchased :D:D:D
In a bizarre twist of events, I'm stranded at home as Dee has my car keys. While this would be the greatest thing in the history of the world ever on any normal day, I have a meeting with the MD this morning :|
Still, for now, I'm playing Sonic ;D
[edit]The Vintage collection seems to have a game save option built in which is cool, would have killed for that back in the old mega drive days!
Indeed. I'd have gladly paid 800, particularly for Sonic, but they're arcade ports and 400 is the price point. Winnar!
400pts each?
Bargain! I'll be playing that shortly then.
The achievement system is great for these old games. I cant wait for Sonic 2 and unlocking the inevitable achievement for turning Super Sonic! I loved those half pipe bonus stages.
You know how sometimes you get a tune in your head and can't get rid of it?
For the last two days, I've had the tune kicking around for the demo stage in Boom Boom Rocket including the shout 'here we go' as the stage starts. *sigh*
Golden Axe is downloading annoyingly slowly for me :( I'd have started downloading earlier but couldn't find the credit card.
Edit: Yet Sonic took a matter of seconds

Hmmm might have to buy Golden Axe :)
Golden Axe rocks :D I seem to have remembered every tiny detail of it too ;D
The achievements are maybe a little too simple but easy points I guess.
And sonic.....all those memories of my childhood just keep flooding back :D I was in a bad mood before I downloaded these two, not now :D

I don't think I'll bother with either tbh, I've got both on my PSP, and I've got pretty much every Sonic game on my Sonic Collection Xbox game (which is BC), so I think spending points in it would be a bit silly.
Anyone up for co-op Golden Axe sometime? Not really about much tonight but tomorrow I'm about all night. :)
If I'm about I might be up for it :) Went through it with Des earlier on a whim, we were a husband and wife fighting machine ;D
;D which one of you was the girl? :p
I'll be the dwarf, always preferred him......erm not in a sexual preference kind of way ;D

Today SEGA announced the SEGA Vintage Collection, a new product line that includes enhanced versions of five SEGA classics which will be available for download on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360. SEGA Vintage Collection kicks off today with the launch of Sonic The Hedgehog and an enhanced version of the arcade classic Golden Axe. Three other titles from SEGA’s Genesis library will be ready for download shortly thereafter: Streets of Rage 2, Ecco the Dolphin, and Sonic The Hedgehog 2
'mon the Rage! And Sonic 2 over Live! And probably all at 400 points \o/

My youth doesn't usually make a difference because I'm that much of a gaming geek I still know plenty of C64 games let alone NES games :embarassed:
I'm disappointed in myself now :(
Bomberman is available on Live Arcade NOW!!!! :D
Will grab it when I'm home tonight.
I sat down and played Feeding Frenzy last night for the first time properly (kids and Mrs. Feek have been playing it). I got through to level 14 with only losing one life, did a bonus stage (didn't clear it) and it flashed up with an 'end game or cancel' whatzit. Chose cancel and it bombed me back to the menu :(
I wasn't happy.
Ooh I hate menus that don't properly explain themselves. :(
Think I might be getting bomberman shortly :D
A post on Bomberman from AVF...
Ok, I've only played bomberman a few times before today so if there is anything missing from this game that made it special to people I won't know. With that said...
There is 8 different arenas to play in, the standard one and 7 with different features and graphics, all of these 7 can be played without the feature if you just want to play the standard game with different graphics.
There is options Galore, different game types, like paint bomb, zombie and bombing run and you can chose pretty much anything you want about your games. length, number of people up to 8, difficulty of the ai, revenge mode or super revenge mode (lets you earn your way back after death) as well as choseing which powerups and powerdowns you want in the game.
Achievements look challenging, varied and a few amusing ones like you must win a game with all of you dressed as girls.
Graphically looks great, bright colourful, widescreen (no box in the middle of the screen like many clasic games).
A Blast (literally ) on live, there is ranked matches and ranked tournaments as well as normal player matches.
There is no single player campaign or anything, you just start a game, chose how many ai you want to play against and away you go.
There is lots of costume options for your bomberman and they can be mixed and matched, you earn them by picking up an item while playing. Some of these are needed for acheivements like for the cowboy or girlpower acheivements.
Overall game seems alot of fun, I don't see any reason people would be disapointed with spending 800 points.
:)
Excellent. Bomberman really excels at multiplayer and over live it'll be brilliant. Nothing like hearing the reaction of other people when it all hits the fan :D
We'll have to get a game going with the BD lot at some point.
Aye. I'll deffo have it by tonight so hopefully there'll be at least 3 or 4 of us at some stage :)

Well, Dee actually has her own GT as well, but very rarely uses it. She likes unlocking achievements for me :D
I don't get any help with my local multiplayer achievements :(
Dee has been most gracious helping me with a few, we went through Golden Axe just the other day :)
Me neither, which is a pity as I need someone for the local co-op for Golden Axe :undecided:
War World (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/achievements.php?gameID=298) will launch with 15 achievements totalling 247 points (What the hell is with that number, I mean seriously, 250 is the cap set by Microsoft), and are very boring. More fuel to the rumours this will be the next 1200 point XBLA game
The Marathon (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/achievements.php?gameID=284) achievements are just wierd.

Wing Commander Arena is apparently Wednesday's game - with it's claim to fame being the first XBLA game to support 16 player multiplayer over live. I'm a big fan of the Wing Commander franchise and should probably boycott this as they've done absolutely nothing with the brand and reduced it to a 2D shooter, but hey, no harm in taking a look at the trial :p
Always worth trying the demo :D

I've got an easy 1k waiting for me at the moment too but waiting for x360a's gamerscore league to start up to do it. For some insane reason someone made me a captain for a team ;D
Potential awesomeness on Wednesday - Marathon: Durandal and Spyglass Board Games. Marathon I've heard good things about and who cant use board games when non-gamer folk are around?
I'm actually more keen on the board games game than Marathon ;D

I just want Speedball 2 and SWOS! :(
On other news, Assault Heroes is so god damn cool, I dont know why I didnt buy this before. Dee doesn't see the appeal, it's a proper boys game though, you're in a buggy and you have a flamethrower ;D
What's Assault Heroes? Buggy....Flamethrower you say?
Yes, and yes :D You ride along blowing **** up, with a flame thrower, minigun and mortar launchers, with grenades and nukes on backup. You can jump out and fight on foot for more points, and there are underground sections entirely on foot I read, though you dont get to play them in the demo.

I played the demo is thought it was really realy good. Alien Hommid was rather strange though.
Got a certain charm to it though. Didn't buy it but I loved the style.

Castle Crashers :D
Boring boring boring this week - Track and Field. Couple of good things on the way though:
http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/08/06/552447.aspx
Hot August games also releasing this month:
* “Ecco the Dolphin” (Sega) Cool off with this fun, whimsical update of the classic undersea exploration game featuring everyone’s favorite bottlenose dolphin, Ecco!
* “Hexic 2” (Carbonated Games) The highly anticipated sequel to the popular puzzle game “Hexic HD” will have gamers racing to solve brand new challenges, including an all new two player Battle mode.
* “War World” (Ubisoft) A pure adrenaline rush, War World features powerful armored mechanoids battling head-to-head in all-out savage single and multiplayer battles that combine action and strategy.
Sizzling summer launches hitting in the coming weeks:
* “Geon: Emotions” (Eidos) Engage in the unique sport of Geon, where you must master a diverse range of emotions to best your opponents.
* “Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords” (D3Publisher of America, Inc.) Addictive and easy-to-learn, this game integrates story and character progression elements found in RPGs delivering a brand new type of game that pushes the puzzle genre to a whole new level.
* “Space Giraffe” (Llamasoft) Created by genre-defining game designer Jeff Minter, “Space Giraffe” is a psychedelic shooter that spans 100 levels, all set against vivid, pulsating backgrounds that synchronize with any custom music selection.
* “Streets of Rage 2” (Sega) One of the most popular side-scrolling beat ‘em ups of the 90’s gets the Xbox LIVE Arcade treatment, complete with enhanced graphics, sound, Achievements and multiplayer modes.
* “Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix” (Capcom) This game combines addictive puzzle action with favorite Capcom fighting characters including Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Morrigan.
I know some folk have been waiting for Puzzle Fighter (especially Jen iirc), War World looks awesome, Hexic might be worth a look, though how much value it will be compared to its free predecessor who knows, Geon looks like it could be something different. Streets of Rage 2 needs no comment
... and to repeat, Echo can cock off ;D
Streets of Rage 2......Puzzle Fighter, Puzzle Quest........oooooooooooooh :D
I sense an expensive time for me with the arcade :D
Puzzle Fighter is actually partly because i know my Mum would love it and I've been trying to find something she'd like besides Bejewelled 2.
And Streets of Rage 2 is just plain awesome.

Gauntlet, easy sp points, can pretty much run the 100 levels by always pressing Y to regain health. Level 45 atm, should be done tonight.
However, SoR...sweeeeeeet.
Oooh: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/f/fatalfuryspecialxboxlivearcade/
Looks good for 400pts :D
Sorry Davey, no Sensi ;)

Space Giraffe (400pts) and Street Trace: NYC (800pts) this week. Personally I'm more interested in Space Giraffe, read a few things about it over the past couple of months, and it looks most random/different:

Woo Super Puzzle Fighter 2 next week :D
My Mum will be happy, she was just asking if I had any new games she'd like the other day :D
Just have to see if it comes paired with anything. Sensi would fit, different genre, retro port...
I'll be happy with just that tbh :p

That looks cool.

War World's out Wednesday alongside Super Puzzle Fighter 2 :)
Edit: Or not.....just Puzzle Fighter then :D
Surprise release!

Streets of Rage 2 :D:D
Awesome!!! SoR2 is cool. Love grabbing the bottles and smacking somebody over the head with it :D
*turns on 360 quickly :D*
Soo fetching that later. 2 player goodness to be had :D
It's downloading now :D
And then i'll download puzzle fighter 2 as well, well excited :D
Fire it up when you're done so I can view the achievements on xbox.com :)
Just done so :)
Wonder if i'll remember all the things I'm meant to be doing today? :p

[edit]Kill Jet
Defeat Boss 'Jet' at the end of Stage 2 -- with Game Settings set to Hardcore.
If I remember rightly, he was a proper c*** :/:D
They look quite a good mix to me :)
Some tough but others simple as anything.
Just played it briefly and \o/ Just like the megadrive version :D
Yeah it's quite good. You're limited in what you can do with these old games but so far all the Sega ports have at least made an effort, could have just been 'Beat level 1' 'Beat level 2' etc

Wooooooot, Streets of Rage 2 kicks ass!! I'm so getting this when I get home :D
There must be online co-op play very soon :D
I'm out tonight though so another night :D
Surprise release!

Streets of Rage 2 :D:D
:D :D
Getting it now. :)
Puzzle Fighter 2 rocks too :D Multiplayer is excellent, really frantic and each match can go either way so easily.
Had a go of the demo, looked good. :)
Managed to win without knowing what the hell I was doing.
Puzzle Fighter 2 has well and truly hooked me :D
Just been spending time getting my 20 ranked wins achievement, and just got completing one mode on hard too :D
Tomorrow I'll work on some of the other completion achievements.
I think it's pretty stupid they dont let you use the training mode in the trial version :p
I've pretty much got the gist of what's going on but not sure on a purchase yet. Streets of Rage 2 is superb however, great memories playing it with my brothers!
They don't? That is stupid, although I've never tried the training mode, I just figured it out as I went along :D Although I think I've missed out some crucial things probably.
A lot of it is down to practice I think, and a bit of luck!

I'd never played it before, but I gave the trial a go and like it. I'm sure there's tons I don't know about it, but it seems fairly simple (make rectangles, blow rectangles up) and good fun :)
The key to it seems to be building up combos, in multiplayer the game can go either way really quickly. One second you can have a nearly empty game board while the opponent has nearly lost, next second he's cleared half his board from one gem and suddenly you've almost lost.
Apparently this weekend 4 arcade games will be half price for 48 hours:
* “Small Arms” – 400 Microsoft Points (normally 800 Microsoft Points)
* “Zuma Deluxe”– 400 Microsoft Points (normally 800 Microsoft Points)
* “Gauntlet” – 200 Microsoft Points (normally 400 Microsoft Points)
* "Dig Dug” – 200 Microsoft Points (normally 400 Microsoft Points)
It's something that was talked about before but never really been hinted that they were going to do it. I'd probably grab Zuma at that price (always liked it but not for 800 points) and possibly Gauntlet.
If it even happens anyway.
I quite liked Zuma too, if nothing else I'll probably download the demo of Small Arms to see if it's worth 400pts.
Fingers crossed it happens :)
Small Arms was cute, definitely worth 400 points, just not sure if I want to blow 1000 points in one go :p
I blew 1200 points yesterday without really thinking about it :embarassed:
Except I already had 400 spare so I can pretend it was cheaper :D
Where are the bottles in SoR2? I'm sure there were bottles that smashed. Or was that SoR?
As for that nutty puzzle game...no thanks. Drove me insane after a couple of minutes. Nothing wrong with the actual game, it was just all the nutty stuff ;D
Not down with the Japs ay Des? :D And aye, SoR :)
I think I must be on a big puzzle kick at the moment. Just played Zuma for '5 minutes' to see if it would be worth 400pts, that was 45mins ago.....and it was only the trial :embarassed:
I'll be buying that then :D
Random rave (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=953134#post953134) about Castle Crashers. Lots of people like what they've seen of this, including me!
The 4 games are half price now :) Just picked up Zuma and trying to decide over Gauntlet.
Grabbed Zuma and Small Arms, both well worth 400 points. 200 points is pocket change for the others but I'd/we'd just never play them.
/Daz
I'm tempted by Small Arms for the price but I'd have to buy more points to get it and not sure if I should :embarassed:
Zuma rocks though :D
Small Arms is alright and I had the points anyway. Smash Brothers like in it's play but not as fast paced or in depth. Still, for ~£3 you'll get your money's worth. I lose more than that to the ITBox's in pubs and get less out of it :D
Ala BBR, I've lost Dee to Zuma :|

I've bought quite a few points in the last week or so, so think I'll skip on Small Arms. Got a day to think about it at least.

I've bought quite a few points in the last week or so, so think I'll skip on Small Arms. Got a day to think about it at least.
I bought 2000 points a month ago and I needed to buy another 2000 today :embarassed: Saving some for Sensi World of Soccer and the Crackdown expansion, and I'll see what to do with the others :)
I'm not sure how much I've bought, damn card sitting in front of me :p
I've bought about 5 arcade games in the past 2 weeks though which is a bit excessive for me.
Arcade games ftw!
Got 1000 in the bank myself, not really reserved for anything now, just BBR DLC when it finally surfaces. Sonic 2 should be out sometime in September and that's a no brainer for me (taking all comers on the vs play, totally love(d) that mode :D).
Random note - last night I decided to download the trial of Gauntlet in case it would change my mind about it at the last minute.
...however, as I was being distracted by a kitten at the time, I pressed the wrong button. So long, 200 points :embarassed:
Haha doh :) Randomly I had a dream the other night that I was playing a new arcade game, I think it was a racing game, and bought it on XBLive Arcade. That was it. Totally random dream.
;D Ah well, Gauntlet isn't bad.
And Pete, I thought I was bad for dreaming of Puzzle Fighter ;D
Only just realised what Zuma is. Played the trial quite a while back and thought it was great. Think I'll be grabbing it tonight :)

Any idea what this weeks releases will be? Have they been announced yet?
Aye, they were announced early with the weekend price drops. Fatal Fury Special (which I think was number 3) and Cyberball 9483598437259843 <number>. Both retro's, 400 a pop.

Bah, I want my Sensi Soccer dammit! :p
I want Sonic 2! *shakes fist*
As much as I want Sonic 2 and Sensi Soccer, I'm almost pleased that the release is a bit crap, I won't spend money then ;D
Sonic 2 on Wednesday apparently :D Go vs mode!
And I have points at the moment \o/
http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/09/24/553439.aspx
Some more temporary price drops, nothing amazing though.
And not as cheap as before, the tight **nts :D
Anybody getting Tetris Splash tomorrow?
Looks quite tempting but I am a big tetris fan :D
Time to fire up the Yank live accounts folks. The Yaris driving game is out on Wednesday for free, but only to U.S. and Canada peeps. Cant blame MS for this one, though it doesn't matter either way, hopefully I'll still get it :D
Puzzle Quest is the other release, and while it looks like something I should be interested in (a puzzle RPG), it's the second 1200 point game :/ Should be a proper port of the PSP game so justified a little I guess.
1200pts is what's putting me off too :( it's a lot even for a great game, which it is.
*reminder*
Go get your free game folks :) Probably crap but free is free :p
leowyatt
10-10-2007, 16:50
free game??
Use/Create a US Live account, and download the Yaris 'advergame' or whatever they're calling it now :p

is it any good?
Dunno, not home yet. Aegis Wing is (or at least was) free on the American marketplace and that is great, imo.

10-10-2007, 16:54
ok cool, I do an account tonight :)
Oooh forgot about that, getting it now :D
Puzzle Quest is out too right? I'll have to see how money is at the weekend as that is quite tempting.
Tis yes :) Trial's downloaded, gonna give it a whirl later.
I'll get the trial too :)
If it was 800pts I'd probably snap it up instantly but 1200pts makes it a more sizeable purchase in my eyes so it has to be good!
I wonder why Yaris was free ;D

Interesting stuff on the way (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/826/826469p1.html).
Especially looking forward to the BG game :)
The early previews haven't been particularly favourable so don't get your hopes up :/ They were a while ago though so hopefully they'll produce something even slightly worthy of the franchise.
Switchball looks like fun (Marble Blast 2 essentially), as does Commanders. War World is still my biggie though as far as original games go, just looks awesome.
Grabbed Track and Field earlier on. What wicked game it still is :D
Need to get back into the swing of button tapping but it's great. I tried playing it with the guitar buttons instead as they're bigger and I found it easier then, hehe. Only had a few quick goes and got stuck on the high jump. Can't seem to time my jump right :/
