I can't wait for this :D
I watched the Long Way Round avidly when it was on, I have since got the dvd and the book (book is an excellent read esp if you watched it first)
The bbc link has a logs page which will keep me quiet for a little while too :D
Sheesh.. talk about taking a long route through africa.. mind you, some of those nations (Niger, Chad, CAR) they're avoiding are definitely too risky, so I can't really blame them.
Excellent :D I loved the series, watched it at a friend's and got hooked so I bought the DVD as well as the book.
Can't wait :D

The Long Way Around is one of those shows that was sadly missed by too many, it was bloody brilliant. I will definitely be watching this though, but I might wait for the DVD around Christmas as I horde TV shows on DVD, I really don't like the weekly breaks.
What are the odds of Ewan getting petrol in his eye again?
There is also another biking journey DVD out which is only Charley Boorman which I might pick up, sadly Ewan isn't a part of it.
I think I know the one, I caught a bit of Charley Boorman doing something on Sky 2 ages ago. Was it the Dakar Rally? Meant to watch more of it but it was on at some silly time.

I can't remember, I saw it on a shelf in WH Smith a while back. It's probably quite cheap online.

Yeah, you were right, it's the Dakar one.

Might have to buy that sometime, it looked quite good.

Book is already out but I'll wait until it comes out in paperback. DVD is due out beginning of December I believe :)

I posted a thread about my favourite band ever, ever, ever a while ago - the boxer rebellion
well, the boys are providing a large part of the soundtrack for this
6 songs in the first episode :O
another reason to watch it!!
(if you enjoy the soundtrack, check out their albums )

Excellent - will let you know what I think as I never got around to checking them out when you made the thread and tbh completely forgot :o
Can't wait for this later. Have to I guess, silly temporal mechanics. I'm not a biker in any way but these shows really make me want to buy a bike, grab my camera and just ride off. All I need is my camera, place to stay and some money. Sorted.

Really enjoyed that. Will have to put that on series link I think.
2 hours of high quality programming together... on the Beeb!?!? Who wudda thunked it!

Glad I have my uses :)
Thought it was a good start - not sure on the whole point of actually stopping off in London for a night after they'd started - just seemed to break up the continuity of the trip in my eyes. Maybe it was something they learnt they needed to do after LWR but I'm probably going to think of it separately as "the UK trip" and "the LWD".
Not sure on Ewan's missus going along either - as she had to learn to ride a bike just for it, I keep thinking wouldn't it have been safer for her to join them at the beginning on tarmac rather than offroading in Africa but we'll have to wait and see how it turns out :)

I don't think she should be going at all - it's not her adventure. I doubt they'll enjoy that part of the journey as much.
