Vodafone content protection *WARNING: RANT!*

Does anyone know how to get rid of this useless service provided for free without being asked for by the incompetent cretins at Vodafone?

Im sorry, but wtf? Do car manufacturers release their cars nowadays limited to 70mph? No! So what cocaine fuelled brainfart made Vodafone think of this one. The latest "porn or illegal images"? Desmos laptop pics. Other victims include the logo for my company, the question application on facebook but not facebook itself and various other image tags.

Turn it off you say, yes, why didn't I think of that, a simple case of following the link from the warning page that comes up from Vodafone, except it just links to a complaint PDF which you can print out and fax, nothing about removing the ******* nannying piece of **** idea.

Now, could someone explain why there is a content block on a business account? Are UK companies likely to employ people of less than 18 and give them company assets? Content protection is something I can't remove because im not the named account person (he left the company). I tell you what Vodafone, even though I can't prove who I am, I will get the accounts people to stop paying you, is that enough proof that im responsible for the account?

It only took 3 hours of constant phonecalls to get activated a data sim that was being charged for but apparently no record of on the system. I wonder how long it will take to get this resolved?

Most ISPs and Telco's will accept a fax sent on headed paper signed by a billing contact as acceptable proof for a change of technical contact.

I've had to remove this from a couple of our users, I just phoned Vodafone Corporate and it was done within seconds, they're very efficient.

My dealings with Vodafone Business have been different though, I've had problems with them trying to get things done but that's because I'm not set up as an authorised person to deal with the account.

Your company will have designated people who deal with your Vodafone contract. If you ask them to do this for you it will probably taken seconds.

If one of my users went direct to Corporate to get things tweaked on the account I'd expect and want it to be difficult for them to do it. We have people who look after the account for a reason. Someone wants content protection removed, they call me, I get it done.

I had someone recently who tried to get an upgrade on his phone. He told them that if he didn't get the 'free upgrade I'm entitled to' for a particular model phone then he'd be contacting his accounts department and telling them not to pay the bill.

I went ballistic.

I'd suggest a call to whoever looks after your Vodafone contract to get this sorted.


/edit - I've just re-read the bit about the person leaving. In which case, someone needs to get the details updated, I'd be very surprised if there's just one contact but a letter should do the trick. In any case, the only security questions they normally ask are name and billing address so it shouldn't be too difficult to get around.

The brick wall im hitting here is that the other guy how 'works' in IT may or may not be another contact, he doesn't actually know. (this is what im up against) I have to learn all the systems with no documentation or contacts.

The other tiny problem is that im on holiday presently, so chuff all chance of faxing them. Funny how I only find these problems out when I can't do much about them....

Anyway, Vodafone took three hours of conversation before they could activate the sim card I had. It took umpteen times reading the code on the sim card before they acknowledged there was a problem with it, so im not best pleased with Vodafone at this moment in time.

If I want to get the content protection taken off the account, I can do this if I visit the nearest store... in TRURO!

I can appreciate your point about unauthorised tweaking, but why on earth would a buggy content filter be of any use on a corporate account?

Anyway, it looks like I will have to VPN in and RDP to my works pc, just to view flipping photographs! Stupid Vodafone.

Well it seems Vodafone were monitoring that last post.... The stupid ******* moronic ******** cut me off.

5 days of phonecalls, them telling me things from "It must be your sim card" (despite the software telling me it can see the vodafone network) to "it must be your modem" (see above)

When challenged with such technicality as "I have just used ethereal to tell me what is going on and you are rejecting my connection attempts, so its not my pc, my modem or my data sim card" they resort to "Im not sure you should be doing that"

Arrrgh Vodafone! Why cannot it be accepted that someone has screwed up?
