View Full Version : Farewell my beloved...

My 360 has finally died :(

Here's the sequence of events:

Turn 360 on and send a few messages to friends.

Load up the Forza 2 demo.

Continue to load into game - black screen. 10 minutes passes...still black screen.

Reboot

Try demo again - this time it shows the loading screen, but with the chequer board effect.

I've phoned Costco up and they have said they'll refund it aslong as I go in with the card holder of the costco account (my mum's BF). So I'll have to wait until they get back off their hols and go next tuesday.

I'm tempted to either:

Get a PS3 as they seem more reliable.
Save the money.
Get a TV.
Wait for the elite to come out (although it still suffers from the same problems).

Have you tried any other games or demos to see if the problem is with the 360 or the demo?

Robert

Haven't tried other demos yet, but chequer boarding is surely over heating? It hasn't happened before with that demo - and I've played it a fair bit.

I'd certainly try some other games and demos before confirming it as dead, just incase the demo has somehow become corrupted.

The reason why the PS3's more reliable is because there's never enough games to play on it anyhow :p

Unlucky though :(

Hold fire on the PS3, at least for a couple of days. Looking at the newly announced SKU, it's looking like they're going to announce a rumble pad soon. May as well wait until it's out and get it day one, it's not like there's really any games to play in the mean time anyway :p

In other 'HA' news, the new US PS3 (80GB version) doesn't come with hardware emulation, just software like ours.

Daz I take it you use the MSN in your profile? Either you have me blocked or something has screwed up because I can't see you on :D

I may just keep the money to be honest with just finishing uni and what not (strapped for cash).

I'm not signed in :p

Robert

Ah do you ever sign in?

;D

If he's like me, no :p

I do when I'm actually on a PC long enough to have a chat. I'm all day while at work, though obviously I'm afk a fair bit.

I personally don't understand the logic of getting a PS3 first, there are no games, the ones that are coming out are being released upto months after they appear on Xbox360 and the functionality of it is so poor in comparison such as not being able to exchange messages if you are playing a game or watching a movie, hell, you can't even read them.

That sucks :( was going to say if you need any costco card holder I could go with ya.

Robert
10-07-2007, 09:18
Apparently it has to be with the users card I got it on. Both my sisters have cards but I don't think it works like that.

Davey_Pitch

Have you managed to get around to testing it with other games yet?

Robert
10-07-2007, 13:27
Not for long periods of time. The forza 2 demo now works...and I've played some PES6 - so it seems to point to a faulty box rather than a corrupt file, I'd guess.

I'll test some more and get GoW back from a my brother-in-law.

Davey_Pitch
10-07-2007, 13:28
Actually, if other things work perfectly fine I'd be more likely to suggest a faulty file. Obviously I can't say for sure, but if it's only ever gone faulty while playing that demo, I'd simply delete the demo and re-download it.

Robert

Other than the other day - no. It's always been fine.

Surely you just need to take it back or am i missing something.
If you do need it repairing then i can talk you through most 360 repairs. I'll give you my home number & we can leave it live & talk while you fix it.
Re flowing the solder is the main cause of problems so stripping your 360 & attempting to fry it with a Hot air gun should sort it ;D
No i am not kidding, All you need is a hot air gun & some tin foil to cover the bits you don't want to melt. Strip it, cover the plaggy bits with tin foil then cook the bejesus out of it for ten or so minutes. Put it back together then turn on for ten minutes, turn it off, then turn it on again & all (hopefully) will be fine

Robert

Nah I'm just gonna take it back to costco and get a full refund rather than trying anything myself.

Thanks for the offer though :D

You not getting another one then?

Robert
10-07-2007, 16:52
When they shrink the die size (which is rumoured to be very soon).

leowyatt
10-07-2007, 16:56
so you just going to sit on your money?

Robert
10-07-2007, 17:07
Yep I think so. But seeing as I've finished uni and I'll be getting no more student loan I've got to be careful.

Robert
11-07-2007, 22:30
Well I've just spoken to my Sister and she wants me to buy their PS3 for 330 (cost of 360 on launch). I'll get RFOM and Motor storm with that.

Not sure what I'll do but she wants me to buy it as she needs the money...so I may well do.

leowyatt
11-07-2007, 22:33
But do you really want one?

Robert
11-07-2007, 23:11
Not bothered really. I'll be waiting for the 65nm 360 anyway with hopes of improved reliability.

So I can't really see that coming out in the next 2 months.

Davey_Pitch

So you're willing to trade a console with loads of great games, for one that only has a handful, simply because you've had a hardware failure (which you still haven't confirmed with proper games yet)? Do you just not like the 360 or something? I've been without my 360 for over 2 weeks and it doesn't look likely I'll get mine back in the next week either, but if someone offered me a PS3 right now for it, I'll tell them to stuff it, as it's nowhere near close to the 360 in terms of game quality.

Daz
12-07-2007, 09:31
I dont think it's worth it even at that price - unless you want a really cheap blue ray player. Leave it until the end of the year/start of next year when it actually has some games, and home is launched. You'll get one cheaper.

leowyatt
12-07-2007, 09:35
Seriously dude, just take it back to Costco and get it changed for a new one :) You'll miss playing on it. In fact get it swapped and lend it to Davey :D

Robert
12-07-2007, 09:48
The main reason for getting the PS3 was to help my sister out with the money...but no. I'll probably keep the money and wait until the elite is out or something.

leowyatt
12-07-2007, 10:10
Not being funny mate, but if she really needs to get rid of it I'm sure they can find someone who would buy it :)

Save the money for the Elite or the next one if you want, it would be silly to change the console when you have all the games etc.

Robert
12-07-2007, 10:13
Yep I think I may get the elite.

And I will test it in other stuff before hand.

I have the perfect way to test it! My parents are home this weekend/monday and my mum's partner is an Ace Combat nut (as well as anything flight related)...so I'll let him abuse the game and see if it crashes.

Would have thought they'd have np finding a buyer, even though I'd think the buyer was nuts :p

Robert

Ease up guys she's my sister. I was trying to help her out.

leowyatt
12-07-2007, 10:37
I know you were mate, I was just saying yes you help people out but not buying something you don't really want. I was trying to say she would deffo find a buyer and that doesn't NEED to be you :)

Robert
12-07-2007, 10:41
It's too late mate. I am now scarred for life.
