View Full Version : Duh duh, duh duh duh.....another one bites the dust!
360 kept crashing playing Forza2 last night so I left it off and went to bed. Came down this morning, turned it on, loaded Forza2. Hit the Start Race button and it crashed again. Turned it off, back on, TROD
Still got the receipt so will take it in for a swap. If they check the warranty seal I'll play dumb and say it was second hand (which it was) and the receipt shows it wasn't bought in this area so kind of backs me up.
Oh well.
Bugger :(
I noticed you repeatedly showing as logging onto live last night while I was racing, that was obviously when it fell over.
hmm quite a few breakdowns aren't there!!!
I hope my receipt is somewhere :S
Tried it again before I left. It fires up but once I try and start a race it dies on me. Only had the red lights once so far but still going to try and swap it at the weekend.
Anybody know what Game are like for swapping?
Crikey, I still have my release day one. Is there anyone else here that hasn't had theirs die on them? It's a bit of a worry.
My 360 was basically DOA - the one it was replaced with is still going touch wood. Though I don't run any games that generate a lot of heat really - the Gears and Crackdowns - I play a lot of arcade games and Guitar Hero more than anything else. And I'm keeping it horizontal which is supposedly better for air flow though I don't know what difference that makes.
Game are more likely to check the warranty seal than your supermarket type places Jim, and if they find it you could be in for a fight. If it comes to it you could just do a new purchase at supermarket swaperoo trick.
I'll go for Game first seeing as I have the receipt for them. If that fails then I'll have to go down another route.
Are you suggesting I buy a new one from X shop, pop my knackered one back in the box and then return it for a full refund?
If you have no problem wrestling with the moral dilemma of, then I know it's been done. Do it to Tesco, they've got enough money :D
I'm hoping I don't get any problems, I bought it from a guy who got it free on a mobile contract so I don't really have anywhere to go back to apart from direct to Microsoft. I have no receipt, but with them all having three year warranty now then every xbox in the country is covered.
*crosses fingers*
It's not a moral problem at all ;D
Just checking the procedure :p
Just checking :D Do it with the supermarkets if you have to, the staff there are far less likely to check things as they dont know what they're looking at.

Same position as me dude. When it arrived DOA the phone company didnt want to know (despite it being their responsibility), but MS sorted it out no worries. Had it back in about 5/6 working days.
That sucks :(

Mine's still going ok......I've had it since last October so it's not as old as yours, just seems to be the only one that's lasted so far
Really don't want it to die, I'd be crap at arguing about it in Gamestation :(
Mine was from last November according to the receipt. I haven't looked at a manufacture date though.
Off to Game on Saturday then. Let's hope they don't take the faceplate off :D
Oh, what do I do with my save games and stuff? Could I swap the HD in the shop?

when you change it at GAME they'll just swap the unit. I did that with mine, just call your store and ask to speak to the Manager, just arrange it with him making sure they have them in stock. It should be no problem at all :)
The guy never even checked mine, just swapped them over.

I still have my release day working, never gone wrong
*touches lots of wood* ;)
but mine probably gets a tenth of the use of you guys
Oh, IF they do take a look at the warranty sticker, do you reckon I could bribe them with signing up to the Game reward card (bonus for them) and maybe buy something? ;D

Mine still works as fas as I know.
It's in it's box at the moment though - CD32 has taken it's place. :D

My only worry is that they changed their procedures after all the XBL bannings.

Game did?? I got my 360 replaced around 2 months back, was it changed before then?
Nope, I'm not saying they did. I'm wondering if they did when the XBL bannings started. Lots of people were trying to offload their banned console for a new one and I wonder if retailers cottoned onto that and started stricter checks.

I am SO out of touch,
why are there XBL bannings of consoles?
if this is too far O/T, lemme know.. I will start a new thread

They're banning consoles hacked to play pirated games.
OK, people with chipped or firmware changed consoles could play backup copies of games. MS have been logging information on this over a period of time and then, on a massive scale, banned all those 360's from signing in to XBL. There is NO WAY to undo this at the moment. Once you're banned, that's it for that console.

Desmo, if Game refuse to swap it out just mention the Sale of Goods Act to them. Their likely response will be that they only guarantee things for a year as that's a reasonable amount of time for it to last. When/if they say that, explain about MS extending the warranty to 3 years for all ROD problems, and they should swap it out no problems.
If that doesn't work and you're not in the mood for an argument, then the Tesco trick should work fine :D
I don't see how they can refuse to swap it out now, with the worldwide extension of the warranty.
If I go in on Saturday morning, I'll just breathe my beer with twigs in breath on them until they give in ;D

For truth.
No way would i accept anything less than an Instant new console. Kick off, spit your Dummy at them then if that fails just fall on the floor crying & sulking.
Finally if all else fails tell them you'll set the Pikey on them & he will have 30 relatives move on to there front garden before Sunday mid day.
Never fails ;)

Good news (http://www.fastsilicon.com/latest-news/microsoft-admits-all-xbox360s-are-defective.html?Itemid=60) when you take it back.
Popped into Game in town today to swap it over but they had no Premiums in stock. They phone through to Chelmsford to check on stock and they had some. Drove over there to pick one up. Guy took mine out back (probably to test it) and came back out with a brand spankin' new Premium :D
Sorted.

I've still got my release day one but I'm so scared of using it these days. I knocked it over yesterday and was very worried. It seemed ok though.

Currys did today when I took my bro's broken console back in. They told me to go through their customer service people, but when I phoned them up there were not only very unhelpful ("you have to ring Microsoft"), they were very rude when I tried to point out to them that the Sale of Goods Act says it's their responsibility. He actually said the words "you'll be wasting your time if you argue with me". He was lucky he was on the other end of the phone as I'd be sorely tempted to smack any cheeky bugger who talked to me like that in a shop. Needless to say his name and staff number are being included in a letter to Currys' MD on Monday.
Sounds like some fantastic customer service there :/

Oh yeah, I won't be buying anything from Currys any more. I'm sure they don't care too much, but I won't buy from anywhere with customer service as ****e as that.

You do right, I'd have lost the plot if someone spoke like that to me. I'm a fiery ****er anyway, doesn't take much to get my back up :p.

Aye, it was all I could do to stop myself from calling him a cheeky ****** on the phone. Don't know what my letter will achieve, if anything, but you never know. Often companies are so focused on good customer service that anyone complaining about it will at least get an answer. That's all I'm looking for.
