Hi every one,

can some one please tell me which BYRNING software supports DVD DL-R ?
I currently use Nero 6 Reloaded which only supports DVD DL+R, and my neighbour has Nero7 which also supports the same format.

So I need to get a BURNing application that supports DVD DL-R BURNing.

Cheers

You sure your drive supports it? A lot of drives only supported one DL format (usually DVD+R DL IIRC).

Yep, the LG optical drive I use supports both DL + & -R, also it supports DVD RAM.
One of the main reasons I purchase the optical drive was because it supported DL-R ;)

From the Nero 7 feature page here (http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/Nero_Burning_ROM_7.html)

Supports DVD-R Dual Layer format and DVD+R Double Layer

Which model is your LG drive?

From here (http://www.ciao.co.uk/LG_GSA_4163B_Super_Multi__6204122)

DVD±RW (+R DL) / DVD-RAM drive - Internal - IDE - Read speed: 40x (CD) / 16x (DVD) - Write speed: 40x (CD) / 16x (DVD±R) / 2.4x (DVD+R DL) - Rewrite speed: 24x (CD) / 4x (DVD±RW) / 5x (DVD-RAM)

Looks like the drive only supports +R DL, not -R :(

Given the price of them these days, this seems like the easiest option. Throwaway society eh?

I'm loving the Samsung ones I bought, they got very good reviews.

IDE is the SH-S182M
SATA is the SH-S183L

Trying to find the detailed reviews of them that I used when I was buying..

Review of the 182M which was enough to make me buy it, and then I bought the 183L when I built a new system.

They've both been really good and reliable (I only use quality media) and are probably both very cheap now.

(both are lightscribe drives, I wanted that)

I have SH-183A (earlier version of the 183L) drives both at home and at work. Haven't tried writing disks with either of them yet, but I've had no grief from either of them when reading disks (including CD-R/DVD-R written on other drives) and they seem quick.

There is also the SH-S203BEBN 20x20
I will try to find some reviews on this one
Plus it is only £20 for an OEM version !

I take it that Nero 6 supports DVD DL - R ?

Might get a new copy of Nero with a new drive anyway (even OEM). Not guaranteed but you never know.

Well I am hoping that once I get the new optical drive that Nero will support DVD DL - R.
My neighbour has Nero 7 and it does not do much more than Nero 6 for BURNing. It has other non BURNing features like IM, VOIP etc.
What about the SH-S203BEBN 20x20 as an upgrade ?

If it's as good as the previous models, it's a winner.

Right then, I will order that when I order my new PC case.
I do remember when I purchaed my current drive that it was compatable with alot of formats. Shame that the format I really needed was one only one not supported !
