Just seen this is due to be released and we're now torn between a mac mini and one of these (http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/07/apples-new-imac-and-keyboard-first-hands-on/) beauties!

Never been a fan of the iMac integrated computer-in-a-display 'thing', so I'd go for the Mac Mini myself, but I think it's an irrational dislike as is there really any difference between this and a laptop or tablet PC?

However, I suspect someone may be hinting at something. ;)

aye but the problem occurs when we want to use the mac mini for internet and someone else wants to watch telly.

This way the iMac can be used as is whilst someone is watching BB or some other tripe :p

But you lose your media box, which I guess would be the main point of the Mac Mini.

/votes Mini.

Just seems more useful. Hell, even I'd consider one.

Where's the problem here? BB? Why on earth would anyone want to watch that? :p

If someone is that desperate to watch TV, I'm sure either (or both, if you're that way inclined) of the laptops could be pressed into service, though don't blame me if they self-destruct. :p ;D

The iMac plugs into the HD telly via DVI/vga so with front row the same as the mac mini it is your media box.

Love the new styling of the iMac. I'm always amazed at how thin it is. There's an entire computer in there, its damn impressive. I say get both ;)

I know what you mean they keep getting thinner and thinner. Kinda glad they phased out the 17" one as that means a 20 is more within reach. I'll be popping down to MMC at some point in the near future for a play.

Can't afford both and one makes the other kinda redundant :p

Mark, thankyou so much btw, I forgot to say. I've been too busy with my gorgeous shiny wonderful new (to me) laptop!

It's ACE! *hugs* You've made my life so much easier!
Glad you like it - it is rather fab. I nearly nicked it even though I already have a laptop. ;D

Apparently they can do DX10 (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=81016) as well. That's cool.

The mini is much easier to hide in a living room though.

I agree completely. The way we have our living room setup at the minute is we have a desk behind the wall the TV would be mounted on so it would be easy enough to hook it up :) If we didn't have the desk there a mini would be secreted somewhere no question :)
