View Full Version : Cheap media player?
Saw these in maplin last week. On the surface it looks like a very cheap alternative to building a media PC for playing my video files on the TV
Only drawback I can see at the moment that the only video output option is Composite (there is VGA but my old CRT TV wouldn't know what to do with that!) Am I missing something or is this as good as it looks?
Doh!

For what it is, that's pretty good, assuming of course the firmware is up to the job. I'd recommend taking a look at other options (e.g. Pinnacle Showcentre) before you buy though.
I got one last week and stuck a 400Gb drive I had from a cancelled project in it. I've put a couple of films on it to test it out and it's actually pretty good. The menu screen is a bit slow to bring the thumbnails up although it previews the movie when you highlight the thumbnail.
It's going to save the DVDs from small fingers!
I ended up buying on of these. Was pleasantly surprised to find that the price had dropped since I first posted.
The software is a bit clunky but when you think of this as a USB hard drive enclosure that just happens to work as a media player then it's a bargain.
