Looking for an ethernet ADSL modem

Just forward thinking. I'm looking for a proper DSL modem (PPPoA to PPPoE bridge), and have found one, a Draytek funnily enough:

Not a bad price but still more than I wanted to pay for something that doesnt really do anything. Can anybody recommend one?

Background being that if I'm going back to DSL, I dont want to lose my 2910 - it's been superb and will suit me for a long time.

Almost all of them will have either 1-port or 4-port routers, though there are often ways to disable the router features to varying degrees. Funnily enough, I'd have answered Draytek had you not already found one. :)

Can't comment on them as I just looked for ADSL Modems at a well-known internet shop. :)

I'm quite set on a proper bridge which seems to limit my options. If I signed up for a connection with multiple IP addresses then it'd be a doddle to sort a no-NAT setup with pretty much any router, but those are hard to come by these days and carry a premium. It'd be more cost effective to handle it in a device.

Not meaning to be picky, but you know that as a rule of thumb adsl = rubbish. I'm with ukfsn an entanet reseller and the service isn't bad but does suffer slow downs. The caps are good 30/300.

At first I installed my Netgear DG834 router that I had kicking about and it synched at 4mb and was generally a rubbish connection. I then forked out for a Draytek 2800 modem (£140) and I've had no random disconnects, and in general its a lot more snappy. I am also synching at 6.5mb as well.

To limit your annoyance at adsl I would go for the draytek. Also UKSN/entanet resellers do banks of 8 static ip's at no extra cost

edit: no thats a lie, you get one free static ip and then banks of 8/16 are available

Uhuh. I too have noticed that the 2800 seems particularly good in the SNR/sync rate department - even though you did pay less than me. Grrr. :p

I dont want to fork out for another Draytek router when I already have on which is a higher spec than the 2800, just without the DSL modem part. And I also agree at DSL being pants, for my needs anyway, but I'm not being left with much choice unless I go narrowband, and that aint happening.

PC world are getting rid of Zoom ADSL routers for £35 at the moment. Turn all the features off and set it to bridge mode?

I'd rather not pay for multiple IP's though - assuming they're just bog standard no-nat.
