A little whinge at unobservant old drivers

Damn near lost the front of the metro just now. Pootling along at 25, if not less, and this micra shoots out of a driveway backwards right into my path. I reckon if I'd actually been doing 30, she would have hit me as I'd not have been able to stop in time.

Don't know if the old bloke standing in the driveway was supposed to be "spotting" for her, cos if he was, he needs new glasses too!

Scared the poop out of me, and just as the metro is finally behaving itself too.

I feel your pain, i have nearly been t-boned on roundabouts by blue rinsers twice now. I was about to come off once and this woman peering over the top of the wheel zooms across in front of me, i had to stop she then saw me and panicked. I really think that people over a certain age should have to do a little test every 3 years or something, just to make sure they aren't a danger to be on the road.

Whilst towing the MR2 back someone ran a red light across us, damn near miss - braking a Land Rover with a car on a trailer behind from 30mph quickly isnt easy!

If only there were more traffic police about these days :(

I had double trouble the other day, both old women, both incapable. One in the left hand lane shoots across me to avoid getting on the motorway, the other shooting behind her, but in front of me from the right hand lane to avoid getting on the motorway, all the while with me in the middle lane and Jenny doing her nut. Fortunately a dab of the brakes was all that was needed.

I have seen some incredible driving when in town though. This old woman waiting at a junctions, indicating right with traffic behind her decides that instead of turning right, she wants to park on the street, so starts reversing. Up until she reversed into the Land Rover in front of me.

I remember seeing this news program on a 95 year old driver and thinking, dear god, he is on a country lane in first gear doing 15mph. Instead of celebrating driving longevity, they should all have to have men waving flags in front of them and be limited to walking pace, which is probably a bit quicker than they are used to now.

Conversely, my dad who has always been a great driver has suddenly started speeding up in his old age. I regularly have to tell him to slow down as he will happily do 90 without realising, which is a complete contrast to when I was a kid and he wouldn't do more than 60.

I think the upper limit for driving should be 70.

You did better than me, when I bought my long-lusted for and saved up for Coupe, some stupid bint reversed into me after I'd driven the 2 miles from the seller's house to the Post Office to get some car tax. She was trying to get into a parking space and then blamed me!
