I've just placed a deposit on my new car :)

It's a Ford Ka 1.3, S reg, 82k on the clock, full mot, electric windows, power steering, alloys, central locking, metallic paint and most excitingly for me air con :D
http://www.pontardulaismotorcompany.co.uk/vehicle_details.php/1639/Ford/KA?PHPSESSID=06836e2b66adb0a3df8d7eae464063fb for a photo.

Cost me £1995 and by some miracle they took my old car for £150.

It was a bit of an impromptu purchase.
For the last few weeks my clio's been making increasingly awful rattling noises, and since the week of the Cottage Meet has started leaking oil, not a huge amount initially but it's been getting worse. Took it to a garage today for a look at it and they said it was coming from the head gasket and basically although fine now, it could go any time.
Combined with the fact I need a reliable car for my new job starting in 2 weeks (it involves 300 miles a week of driving), the MOT being due next week and the fact I really hated how stiff the steering was (Admittedly the least important issue), it made sense to start looking.

And somehow, the first car I viewed and test drove was exactly what I wanted :D

I pick it up Monday :)

I think a Ford Ka is very you :) Congratulations girly, and well done on getting £150 for your knackered banger too

Ty :D

I couldn't believe it when he said £150, I was discussing it with my Mum in the car and we decided £100 would be very nice and then as I was about to go in the office she said 'But £50 might do at a push' ;D
I realised after that maybe I should have tried haggling for more but ah well, I'm very happy with £150 considering the problems it has. :)

Nice car Jen, hope you have many happy journeys in it :)

Kitten said she had a ford Ka and she loved it. It was far nipper and handled much better than people though.

Cool :) I was impressed with the handling of it too, first time I'd driven one and certainly compared to the clio it was much smoother and felt more keen to accelerate.
I know Davey and Daz have said positive things about it. I also have the advantage of a family friend who's a mechanic for a Ford dealer and a neighbour who works for a Ford dealer in the bodyshop, got to be useful sometime :D

Nearly as vile as a corsa I saw that was entirely pink both inside and out

BTW anyone got a clue what colour my car is? I originally thought it looked purpley silver, my Dad and the salesman reckon grey, my Mum silver and the garage's boss reckoned blue (?!).

Congrats! Nice little purchase  Surprised they still keep their value that much really!!!! I guess cars don't depreciate as much as they used to - though Ka's and other such cars are popular so probably hold onto their value more.

Enjoy it! :D

nice one Jen :D

Colour wise I think it's Ford's Moondust Silver (have a look at their website :))

Nice one Jen ! :D

I know that place you bought it from - they do seem to have quite a few bargins there !

Haly

Yeah they're popular cars, that's what keeps the value relatively high :) Also it's the top spec for a Ka so people pay the extra.
Having said that, I looked at some private ads for similar specced cars and they were 2.5kish!

Nope it's not! The photo probably makes it look different but it's darker and imo more purple-ish but that's a matter of much debate :D
I'll try to take a better photo once I have it :)
That or you'll have to see it in person :p

Nice one Jen ! :D

Yeah, they're a good place from what I saw :D

Kitten said she had a ford Ka and she loved it. It was far nipper and handled much better than people though.

It's definitely nippier than most people expect. I watched many cars disappear in my rear view mirror after a quick jump at the lights. It's only a 1.3 engine, but coupled with the low weight it does indeed shift faster than people expect. Tops out around 114MPH too, not that I'd know anything about going those sort of speeds. Ahem.

Good choice Jen. I loved my Ka despite it's girly image (it's cheap and cheerful with lovely low insurance), it was a shame to se it go :)

Tops out at 114mph?
Most I've ever gone in the clio was 95 (Last year when it was a healthier car!) and it scared me then :p
I'll probably average 70-80, certainly on my commute as I hate spending money on petrol.

I just got my insurance quote for the renewal, and it's pretty good considering I'm still on 1 years NCB (Hopefully that changes November), got a few months of tax on it so don't have to worry about that for a bit. :)

I'm still an exciteable ball of energy :embarassed:

Nice one Jen :)

You'd easily make it to Newcastle in that :D

To the point that I've now randomly said the word car when I've meant something else 4 times ;D

Go You. I think a Ka will suit you well

Thank you Malc :)
I just got a very nervous phone call off the garage to ask if I can pick it up Monday afternoon rather than the morning as it's failed the MOT. I'm not overly bothered though as from what he said it was minor stuff and I've got a warranty to back me up after anyway. I get new tyres at least.

I have it :D
Lighting's a bit crap for the photo as it's just a camera phone and for once the sun's out but hopefully you can see it's not that moondust silver colour:

http://www.halycopter.com/images/car/DSC00213.JPG

Been out for a drive in it for a fair bit of the afternoon, it's a dream to drive compared to my old clio :D

Steers so easily, accelerates much more keenly than the clio ever did etc. Total joy to drive :)
It doesn't hurt my dodgy shoulder either to steer which is fantastic because maybe it'll get a proper chance to heal 100% now.

Plus I love all the extras like electric windows etc, so convenient :D Tomorrow I'm going down the motorway in it so should be fun to see how well it accelerates then, I've tried it on NSL roads today and it was lovely to feel a car keen to accelerate for once.

Oh and ironically when I went to drive my clio to the garage it wouldn't start ;D Just a loose connection though that I wiggled to get working again. Poor little thing, hopefully it goes somewhere decent.
