Interface card to control an external eSata drive?

I've got the drive, but I didn't realise my server doesn't have USB2 ports! I know the card has 4 x USB2 ports which will work a lot faster but it's the eSATA bit I'm more interested in.

Can't tell for sure. That item seems to think an external SATA port = eSATA. This is not true. eSATA, though using the same signals, uses a different connector.

I've tried plugging an eSATA drive into a SATA port, but the only way involved a hammer. :(

Looking at the picture, the external port looks bigger than the internal one.

I don't know my sata/esata stuff well enough :(

Size-wise, they're almost identical, but put them next to each other and the differences are obvious. I'd take a photo but I'm not sure it'd be helpful (or even usable).

Aye.... If the box had an internal sata port, which it doesn't.

/edit - this (http://www.cablecity.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=150_154&products_id=977) looks like the right one but that and the cable work out to £30!

/me nods. 'I' and 'L' fit the descriptions of the connectors perfectly. 'I' being eSATA.

Some drives come with SATA to eSATA adapters, but I'm guessing if you don't have USB, you don't have SATA either.

I got a PCI eSata controller with my new motherboard. I'm off to bed now, but I'll check it all tomorrow, and assuming it'll work for you, I'll send it down Feek. I can't see any use for it for the forseeable future :)

Doh! I ordered a card and cable last night, but thanks anyway Davey. I want to get it working on a decent interface ASAP, it's painfully slow using USB1 :(
