Today, I received the prestigious accolade of "Safety champion of the month" aboard the rig for "outstanding safety leadership qualities" - so what do you think of that then? :p
Joking aside, it's actually quite an achievement. This is the first time the award has been given to someone who is not a member of the rig crew in the rig's five year history and I was told that the rig management would normally be loathe to give it to someone from a third party service company but they felt that it was justified in my case.
Here is a quote from the e-mail sent by the rig safety dude to his boss:
Stan Johnson –supervisor TWMA has been awarded “Constellation II Safety Champion August 2007”. Stan has shown continuous safety leadership from the start of the contract with BP.
Here are a couple of piccies. First is of me receiving my award and the second is a close up of said award - a dodgy tinny beer mug :D

All hail the champion ;)
Congratulations :) Always nice to be praised in the workplace! Especially if it's that rare for a third party company member to achieve it :)
Aw Stan, thats great! So proud of you! :)
Yay for Stan the safety man!
That's actually a bloody cool mug. Well done!
Recognition for a job well done is always good - well done.
As an aside, I'm not sure I've ever seen pics of the inside of a rig (business end excepted) before. Don't know why, but somehow it wasn't what I expected.
Superb! No wonder you're my hero. :D
COnGrATUlAAaTioOoONs! WooOOOO! That's wickedy woo Stanaroo! :D
You're just the man I need actually Stan! Have you heard the news?! Rumour has it in 2036 there's going to be an asteroid skimming past the Earth! Can we go blow it up?! You said I could press the big red button and ride the nuke like a cowboy!
PWeEeeeeeeeeeeASSSe!?! ;D
w00t again for you!
Oh yeh - incidentally, whilst I was looking at this thread and scrolling down using the arrow keys on the keyboard, my cursor went from the pointy arrow to that pointy finger (as it was travelling over your piccy) Thing is - it was moving directly down your overalls and I thought I had magically undone your overalls with my cursor as it stopped right at the bottom of your zip! Made me giggle lots! ;D
Well, if the asteroid doesn't get us in 2036, all the crashing computers will in 2038.
/doom monger :)
Computer crashes are about as likely as the asteroid hitting given what happened with the 'Millennium Bug'
What a star, well done Stan :D

Well done champ, congrats on the award. Tomorrow I'll have a beer or two to celebrate your achievement and if/when I make it to a meet I'll buy you a beer/whiskey (remind me of this when/if I get there). :)

No badge I'm afraid :(
There was talk of a golden hard hat but I declined this offer.

Wish I could take credit for it, but its been the MOTD on our sysadmin IRC channel at work for the past couple of weeks.

If I remember what Stan said, he really enjoyed being taken up the derrick last time it happened so I hope they took him up the derrick again. It could have been a nice surprise.
I'd imagine being taken up the derrick is quite enjoyable, especially if you're not expecting it.

I did find it a thoroughly pleasurable experience last time, although I was quite breathless by the time it was over. Going down afterwards was quite an experience too and my guide was quite impressed by my technique. I did need a drink of water afterwards though.
Unfortunately, no-one with the correct qualifications was available to take me up the derrick this time so I was forced to take matters into my own hands whilst looking longingly at the enormous erection from the window of the control room :(
