I know! Its the new Razr 2 / V8 one. Its a nicer design than the previous imho. More streamlined. The outside has a nice qvga (i think) display for caller ID. Now the big thing is of course that Motorola can't design an OS for toffee. Everyone I know who had the old Razr hated the thing. I played with one and also hated the OS. Nasty design, like 10 years behind everyone. I've been with the SE series since the T610 and I'm used to a certain polish that they manage. However, the T610 was a great little phone and yet somehow every SE since it has grown. I don't want my gadgets to grow! They're gadgets. They're meant to shrink. I had grown tired of getting the latest SE to find it had grown yet again. I think I had also grown tired of "cool" features. In the past year with my K800i I never changed the theme, wallpaper, etc. I used the same ringtone from my k750i. I basically used the phone for calls, txt, email and the occasional photo of something I was too lazy to write down. The Razr has everything I need really. It has a camera just in case I'm out with my DSLR. But basically its small, light, thin and calls, txts, emails. I have an iPod Nano for tunes. So, the OS. Its like a less polished SE interface. Thats not to say its bad. Its very usable and fast too. Everything works nicely on it and its quite customizable. In fact I can change the email alert sound which I couldn't on my SE. Small thing I know. There are a few things I miss from the SE. The speaker is better, the camera is obviously better too. I keep looking at it and going "oooh its so purdy." I've been after a flip phone for a while now too. I think it was due to Toronto where everyone had them and I wanted a change of pace when I got back here. Probably US TV shows though ;)

If you've always loved the design of the RAZR but hated the OS go take a look at the new V8. Its surprisingly good, for Motorola. Its based on Linux. Now the best thing is the talking phone option. It can speak caller ID, txts, all sorts. Its is incredible. Its like having KITT in your phone. Have a listen (http://www.vanilladays.com/razr.mp3). I missed my old Star Tac and I'm really happy with my new Razr. Makes me feel like a kid again. Tiny futuristic phone that doesn't detract from the real bulge in my pants. Yup, the sock I stuffed down there ;) I'll add some pics in a mo.

I know! I loved my k800i too. Great phone. I just felt a need for something cool and non brick like. Plus it can say boobies! (http://www.vanilladays.com/razr.mp3). That makes up for all of Motorolas past screw ups.

When it breaks don't say I didn't warn you :p

Actually I know Motorola have changed a lot with the new one so maybe they've realised how awful they actually were, I dunno. I'll wait a month and ask my mates how many they've had come back.

My initial concern would be whether they've stopped them being so easy to snap in half as that was a big fault alongside the software.
Although I have no idea how anyone could like the look of the razr sorry :p From what I saw in Swansea, it was only chavs that seemed to think it looked cool. I'm sorry! ;)

Hehe well I'll be gentle with it :p But it looks great! So thin! My k800i is bulging with random blocks, silly thing. This is sleek.

I'm not keen on the look of it but I'm not keen on the look of the k800i either, it's too big for my liking.
Not many phones I like the look of though and usually the ones I do, I find something else I don't like, I'm too picky :D
I had a u600 very briefly and I loved the look of it but hated the software. Typical :/

I've got a Motorola and I find it as easy to use as my old one. It's simple, that's the main thing for me. I have trouble with telephones that do too much more than make telephone calls.

People keep slating Motorolas but to be fair I've never had any trouble with them. It's industrial espionage from Nokia I tells ya :D

My sister and her bf last night hated me for spending nearly an hour thinking about buying the phone. I'm also picky, but its fine. Its easy to get something rubbish these days and its annoying being stuck with it. I tried out the u600 and it is a lovely looking phone but yeah the software is rubbish. It felt very amatuerish. Silly gimmicks.

Nah I still can't like those looks :( And it's not because of the brand, when I first started at CPW I hated the look of them before I even realised anything else to do with the phones.
Your sister and bf would hate me if they thought an hour was long :D

On a side note, a lot of the gimmicky stuff on the u600 was used on some of their £20 payg budget phones, which just seemed daft as if you're paying a lot for a phone you don't want similar things to the cheap ones.

Hehe :D Even the guy in CPW thought I was taking too long and joined in the banter from my sister. Its hard being around normals sometimes ;)

That'd be me doing that. I went around all the shops looking at deals and then did the Orange retentions trick. ;D

Hahaha I did too :D I went across the road for a Starbucks to ponder. Then went back in and bought it.

I bet he called you some harsh words to his mates then thanked god when he saw you come back :p

When I came back I got him to knock a bit more off the price too :D They wanted £50-80 for an upgrade on a 12 month contract, cos everyone's trying to move people to 18 months. I was not having that so he said £15 and any old phone you have lying around your house. So I'm dropping off a very old Motorola, like 10 years old :D

You did well :) If you take your time, the salesmen always get the jitters and lower the price ;) Especially if you go in on a Saturday for future reference.

What motorola have you got Jonny?
It's an L6 - their cheapest one :D

Earlier one was a one of those swivelly round fronted Timeport ones with the chrome trim. Really liked that little thing :(

V70? Ugh. :(

OooOOOoo - looks loverly!

Unfortunately, as pretty and as high tec they phones are, they're not pheebs proof so I canny even consider anything of the sort! (anything on hinges = in danger around pheebs)!

Looking good though bubba! :D

Like Dym I've got a W880i now and although the camera isn't as good as the K800i I got it to replace (2mp and no flash) plus it doesn't have a radio but in every other way it is great.

The Motorola looks quite sleek but I must admit I'm still a bit wary of them and their reliability - says me having just ruined 4 SE phones in a row. :D

What do you keep doing to them?

I got the S500i and then discovered that apparantly SE were using a dye for the keypad that rendered it liable to cracking but they were supposed to have fixed that after week 31. My phone was week 25 so when it cracked I returned it for a new one, no problem I thought, next phone was week 32 and that just didn't work properly because keys * and # wouldn't respond. Replacement 3 was week 32 also and that cracked even more quickly than the first one so I changed to a W580i which shouldn't have had the same problems but was basically the same phone, guess what, keypad cracked again.

By this point I was getting a bit hacked off and although CPW were reasonably helpful they kept saying I was the only person in Dundee to have this problem, it might be true but it doesn't help me any when it is a known issue. I had to 'upgrade' my contract to an 18 month one rather than the 12 I'd specially selected (I get bored of phones pretty quickly) and got a W880i, in no small measure because it had an aluminium face and solid keys.

Sorry for the offtopic Pete. :)

Ahh I heard about that problem with the S500i, that sucks :(
I always go for 12 months too as I get bored of them easily so I understand how annoying it is to have to go 18 months! I've managed to stay on a 12 month contract this year but i'm sure next year I won't have a choice.

It'll be 24 months before you know it. I suspect the iPhone might go this way.

If it goes 24 months I doubt it would be worth my while.
Hopefully they'll just stick 24 month contracts on the iphone and similar.

The talking phone is brilliant. I taught it the word boobies, it never knew it before me and it knew how to pronounce it. Its got a posh accent too which makes it even funnier.

Teach it to say "take me up the arse, big boy" in a posh accent then I'll be impressed :D ;) ;D

If memory serves it isn't uncommon in Canada already to have 3 year contracts although I think you get a certain amount of 'swaps' in that time depending on your monthly spend.

I may have been a Motorola fanboi back then, but even I couldn't cope with that one. Horrible thing. :)

PS - anyone want one of my collection? I have V60, V600, and V3. :p ;D

No, no and no. But thanks for the offer :)

On second thoughts, I have a catapult and a bag of marbles and need some target practise ;D
