Sad loss of both pilot and plane. RIP. :(

This was part of the celebration of 50 years of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. I was priviledged to see the BBMF aircraft flying with the Red Arrows at RIAT this year:

Don't know if the Hurricane here is the one involved.

:(

Speed in the air is a wonderful thing, until you need to get rid of it quickly. I'm surprised they were flying that low though.

That hurricane in your photo is not the one that crashed. The one that crashed is not part of the BBMF.

Very sad incident :(

I think I heard him go. I live in visible distance of the airfield and was working under the car when i heard two loud bangs. My dad came running out because he thought the car had dropped on me. Only realised later that it was the same time as the accident. Very, very sad :(

I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure as I couldn't get confirmation of the registration number of it. Not that it was important really.

Real shame this. A loss of life is always bad but adding the loss of a flying Hurricane makes it twice as bad. Sad news & my respects/sympathys to his family.

Was DB707 that crashed - ex RCAF Mk 12

Sadly an aircraft I'm rather familuar with due to it living at Duxford and me spending rather a lot of time there.

Aircraft is supposidly a total loss. Don't know who the pilot was at the time though.

Beautiful picture of BD707 here. (http://pegase.foxalpha.com/picture.php?id=2490&size=l)

And a shot taken by someone last weekend. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mclaydon/yf-40.htm

Ah, it was one of the Duxford collection. I'm also familiar with those having been there a few times. :(

One flew over a month ago whilst we were out fishing...

I was wondering then how many are actually left?

I don't think we had gotten back to mum and dads at that point, but heard about it on someone's radio :( so horrible.

They kept on with the airshow though as it would have been what the pilot had wanted... we saw a bit of it from Shoreham beach... too many plane accidents this weekend :(

Awful news. Thoughts are going out to family and the crew, can't imagine what they are feeling like.

Airworthy?
It was 9... Now 8. :(

The one that crashed at the weekend was the last airworthy Battle of Britain Hurricane. :(
