View Full Version : DS Lite
After my mum's recent scare, she's after things to keep her brain active. She mentioned she'd briefly used someone else's DS Lite + Brain Training.
So, for christmas (or sooner), I'd like to get her a DS Lite + Brain Training + More Brain Training.
If anyone spots/knows about any good deals - retail, eBay, whatever, then please bear me in mind.
If anyone knows of any more games of the same ilk then I'd be interested in those as well.
And finally, I've never used or even held a DS Lite, so don't know what to look for - any pointers appreciated.
Thanks for reading. :)

How technologically literate is your mum?
Not very. She uses PCs all day at work but rarely uses the one at home. I'm not sure if that's being scared of breaking it, not willing to experiment, or just because Dad uses it too much, or more likely all three. :)
I'm hoping a DS Lite will be easy enough to get on with but wouldn't want to push it much further.
If she can use a PC then I'd suspect she'd manage with a DS Lite. My mum has used a PC since I bought her one about 5 years ago and she got on great with my DS Lite when she was in hospital last year.
I don't know anywhere doing deals on them but I can have a look for you when I go to NYC in early December if you want.

The only reason I was asking about your mum was regarding using a supercard and sticking all the games on one card for her that way she wouldn't have to worry about swapping them of anything.
I'll keep an eye out for deals for you though.
I'd rather keep it simple and legal with them tbh. If stuff goes wrong it'll be a trip to Essex for me to fix it. :)

Ah ok dude then just stick the cards in and turn it on is the best method :)
Checked in Game today. They have DS Lite + Brain Training for £109.99 (well, I didn't see the .99, but I'm sure it's there ;D), and More Brain Training for £19.99 (same deal with the .99).
So, starter for 10 - £129.98. Can't afford until mid-October anyway so offers are still requested. :)
I have both those games - I'm hooked! ;D
Down to 22 now - I *knew* I felt more immature recently ;)
It isn't for me, so I wouldn't know. Whether I get a sneaky go is another question, though I won't open it in advance.
Might also be under maintenance because Virgin Megastore is no longer Virgin Megastore (they're now called Zavvi). I don't own a Virgin CC either unfortunately.
Our local Game has a preowned one for £84 - though I doubt it's in such good condition. Tempting, though buying the two games seperately will bring the price up to £120, so it's not a huge difference. :dunno:
Edit - now at £122. Game online = £127 - £5 quidco.
So I went into Game yesterday and plucked one off the shelf. I could have got one slightly cheaper online but the savings didn't outweight the peace of mind (or the roundtrip train fare if anything went wrong). :)
So, is there any important stuff I need to know before I go give/demonstrate it? Yeah, I know I should RTFM, but like all men*, we don't do such things - that would be admitting defeat. :)
* Or in my case, blind men who discover on trying to read the manual that they need a magnifier.
Other than put in the cartridge and turn on i'm really struggling to think of the technicalities. Not unless she wants to enter her name and dob which she does by turning it on without a card in there

Found that one, thanks - I charged it up and turned it on to make sure it's working, but I'm avoiding breaking seals on anything as it's not mine. :)

Gamestation have them for £150 with a choice of any 3 games. Dixons do them for £109 with Brain Training, however you can barter with them to change the game; usually they'll change the game for another one around the £20 mark, however if you push it they'll change it for any game.
I wanted Brain Training anyway, and Game had the same deal. Job's a good'un.
Picked up Sudoku today - she's a sudoku nut so had to be done. ;D
Taking the whole lot round next weekend.
Thanks for the info - could be a grey import. Anyway, I decided the best approach was to get stuff on the high street as it makes life easier if something goes wrong, so I've already picked up the full quota of stuff I neet. :)
