Tonight its just me on my lonesome. I've been a bit lazy in the past when its been that and just tootled off for a kebab. Tonight I'm going to make the effort of actually cooking for myself.

Looks nice and simple. Not sure we've got tarragon.. or half the ingredients, but I will pop into Sainsbury's on the way home to shop and hopefully find them :) Not sure they'll have the tarragon so I may be forced to use something else (not sure what just yet)

Will be good to have a decently cooked steak rather than the "so rare you wonder if it even touched a pan" that Dym prefers :D

Mmm bernaise sauce is gooood - and really simply :cool:

Please don't over cook your steak though! No more than 2 mins. To be honest just over 1min each side is good :cool:

For my sauteed potatoes I prefer to boil them first, then shove 'em in ice cold water, then cube them once cold - I prefer the flavour and consistency that way. But each to their own. :) However one tip, once you've heated the oil nice and hot, don't add more oil when pan frying potatoes (or any other veggies/meats) as if the oil is cold when it goes into the pan, it'll be absorbed by the potatoes instantly and they'll become really greasy and horrid and you'll lose the flavours of the potatoes or whatever it is you're pan frying. (sorry if I've teaching you to suck eggs, I just get quite excited about food and cooking :o)

Thats too long by Dym standards. 15 seconds seems to be about all they get..

I prefer my steaks more towards medium than "so rare you're expecting to hear it moo"

Sorry for second post in the row (I'm just oogling at the food thread and dribbling on my keyboard through sheer huuuungeeeeeeeeer!) but I just clickied on the webby url and MY LORD I want a piece of your steak Garpy boy!

It looks UBER lush!

Though currently, the hairy-softened bits of bran flakes neatly swept into the corner of the kitchen floor is looking appealing at the moment due to SHEER HUNGER ROARS! ;D

15s is a little too short IMO. But Dym's Dym.... he's not exactly from our planet! ;)

Eitherway, the pan has to be VERY hot. Sear it on both sides, then do each side for however long you want it. 1-1.5mins for medium, 1.5-2mins for super well done. This is going by froggy standards though :p Obviously you have to take into consideration thickness too.

okay.. so we had no Mustard (could have sworn we still had a load left), and the steak was slightly rarer than I prefer, but mmmmmmmmmmm that was lovely :)

Added some basil to the potatoes whilst they were roasting and a bit of red wine to the steak whilst it was standing before cooking. Came out lip smackingly good :)

Agree with Will on the potatoes. I prefer to boil mine first to make sure they're soft in the middle and then crisp up the outside by frying them.
