Well tonight... I canny be bothered to cook... haven't had time to eat lunch and all in all I'm absolutely starving!

So... with little convincing required on Pickers side of things... we've ordered ourselves a MAMMOTH Indian ;D

What we've got ourselves:

Starters:
Chicken Chaat

Mains:
Lamb Dansak
Chicken Rogan Josh
Chicken Biriyani

Sides:
Curry (to go with the Biriyani)
Bombay Aloo (it's free!)
Pilau Rice
Vegetable Naan

;D ;D

/me sings

FATTY FATTY BOM BOMS FATTY FATTY BOM BOMS! ;D

/me stops singing

Will take photos when it arrives and postie them!

Nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom!

What's peoples favourites and why?! I fell in heart with chicken chaat and dansak within the past couple of years! I have a soft spot for pathia too - served with peshwari naan and sweet onion bhajis! Lamb is always top imo. Followed closely by chicken tikka.

My old indian takeaway (where I used to work in my teenage years) did THE most AY-MAY-ZING mushroom bhaji. Due to it being in Poole and us being in Exeter I haven't had it in yeaaaaars.

Hotty ones are okay... but I prefer a spoonful of it as opposed to a full meal of it... else your face melts off and well... I think it ruins the taste and meal. Jalfrezei FTW for hotties though! Nom nom nom nom nom!

My LORDY LORD I am STARVING! Nom nom nom nom nom! ;D

Well done. I am now hungry. ;D

Might wander down the local Indian restaurant after that. Still at work so it's almost between here and home. :D

Seriously now. This Indian had best turn up soon before I start looking for scraps behind the sofa nuushons!

I will eat my face off if it's after eight!

Mic isn't a huge fan of indian and I always feel greedy/fat if having a takeaway for one :o Means most of the time I make do with tesco indian ready meals or I wait until I go to a meet with you lot ;D means I'm not 100% (or sometimes even 50%) sure what things are so you'll have to forgive me looking like more of a confuzzled idiot than normal :o

hmmm we've been debating whether to have an Indian or not. Will get more food than we can possibly eat for a tenner!

I'm thinking

Starters:
Mix Tandori Starter
Mix Starter

Mains:
Balti Chicken Delight
Chicken Biriyani

Sides:
Mushroom Rice
Peshwari Naan
Bombay Aloo

maybe get some chips n another naan too.

I love indian takeaway :D
When I was living in Stafford, they had the best takeaway I'd ever tried. I've since found one here that nearly rivals it which is rather handy :D

For me I tend to have: Onion bahjis, garlic naan, chicken korma (Sometimes tikka masala but I love a good korma when it's done to be creamy not the 'mild spicy' crap a lot of places do), pilau rice and chips......yes I know chips with curry is terrible :p Piggy will be here soon no doubt to back me up on this being a nice combo ;) Edit: Nm, she did while I was typing ;D

There is very little indian food (At least involving chicken or veg) that I won't eat though, seriously love it and reckon I could eat it every day np :D

mmmmmm. You see that's why it's great to go out with an Asian lady - you get this food when you go to their house! :D Indian food rocks - but it has to be good, average Indian is bland and rubbish. I'm disappointed that none of you order any Dhal or Saag! You should try Baigan Bharta (aubergine) it's delicious!

Read again sausage!

I also occasionally get dhal - but I tend to make that at home for a seperate meal on a different day.

I also have to have brinjal pickle in the house at all times as poppadoms dipped in it are divine!

I was going to treat myself to a curry this evening but Mum called to see if I wanted toad in the hole so I went for that instead. I will have curry tomorrow evening though. Scrummy.

I vary a little bit what I have, but last time I had a curry (took Dad out for dinner one evening) we had:

Mixed starter (onion bhajee, shish kebab, tandoori chicken, tandoori king prawns)
Chicken Razala
Lamb Dhansak
Pilau rice
Mixed vegetable curry
Sag aloo
Peshwari Nan

All sounds good! I made this again tonight http://www.boat-drinks.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4540.

Forgot how good guacamole is! (Especially mine ;))

I try and order something different whenever I go out for Indian food, and am quite partial to, well, anything! I do like it spicy though, fnar all you want. :D

Was talking to an Indian colleague at work who was saying that basically most of it is vegetarian, but with meat added. It's easy to go out and have a curry and choose vegetarian, but other foods like Chinese aren't so accessible in that way. Was very interesting.

A chapati is a must though. I can't eat Indian without a chapati. Someone chucked one at me at the Maidstone beer festival meet and I caught it Matrix style without looking up. I seem to remember Feek was at the other end of the table...

Christ, what a ramble. I've been drinking excellent red wine. Cheers!

Shpookay, I've been looking at Indian Cookbooks tonight in Amazon. Trying to find myself something to add on for my £15 supersaver delivery. I found one, but it's out of stock :( I've got a Madhur Jeffrey one though, which is brilliant. Used her recipes to cook a whole meal for my parents on Mother's Day, including flatbread and dips and shizzle... apart from the desserts, which were Nigella's melt in the middle chocolate puddings. Not very Indian :p

Anyway, I've been fancying an Indian Takeaway for a while, but I'm saving myself for the girlie meet:D

Did Prawn Pilau tonight with wilted spinach and mustard seeds (Gordon Ramsay Recipe). Absolutely bloody lovely and it's SO attractive :D Was using up my posh prawns from Tesco :) It also has cumin in it, which I am thoroughly addicted to the smell of. It's gorgeous.

Erm yeah anyway, back to whatever I was doing :p

Hope you enjoyed your feast Pheebles :)

I have also eated too much, and am already paying the price. :D

Poppadoms (x2 :o).
Onion Bhaji
Lamb Biryani
Keema Naan

Wasn't offered a dessert, but I think they knew what the answer would have been if they had. ;D

Just turned the half hour walk home into an hour long stroll with canal included for added effect. :)

Lets see. Well I have a chicken tikka starter. Then normally a Lamb Rogan as I don't eat lamb that often so its a nice treat. I also get Bombay Potatoes and finish it off with pilau rice and the obligatory naan and poppadoms. Not very inventive I know but its what I like.

I adore Indian food as well :D

Typically I would go for something like

Share a couple of poppadoms

Sheek Kebab

Chicken Tikka Jalfrazi - Possibly a Vindaloo if I'm feeling brave, or a Dupiaza if I'm not
Keema Rice
Peshwari Naan
Onion Bajji

Would normally share all the sides with the misses if we are out together. Our local is a stones throw away and the service is unbelievable. The portions are huge as well and they bag the leftovers which normally will do us for another two meals :D

I am a fellow chapati chomper and can't agree more :)

I shall say no more on the matter...

I really wish I could handle spicy food. I love currys but I always find them too spicy, damn taste buds. Can just about handle a korma, but that's it, tikka masala and I have steam coming out of me.

Haly
23-09-2007, 10:09
A korma shouldn't be spicy though, try to find one that's actually creamy instead of mild spicy as it's meant to be creamy and slightly coconutty not spicy. :)

Will

Korma's are sweet currys - I don't mind a small portion, but I find it uninteresting. Spicy veggie curries rock though.

Last night I went to a curry place called "masala zone" in Soho - the owners have another restaurant which is michelin star rated apparently (curry - michelin star?! Who'd have thought it!!!). Eitherway the food there was delish!

Creature, try a Biryani. It's a dry curry, mix of rice and meat, usual served with a vegetable curry as well. It's not too spicy IMO :)

I'm very partial to Dhansak which I usually have with 6 chapatis (not a huge fan of rice but I do eat it occasionally). Don't usually have a starter or pud but will occasionally force down an onion bhaji or two.

Will, I used to have a corking recipe for chicken Saag. If I can find it, I'll make it for you some time when you come up to Newcastle (hint hint ;) ).

Sound advice. I think my Naan bread was actually spicier than the Biryani. :)
