I am fed up with sandwiches for lunch and it's getting cold out so now it's time to start bringing in something more substantial for lunch. Nah who am I kidding, that's far too much effort, that requires pre-planning! I'll just cook some stuff in the microwave...

Today's menu:
Steak and kidney pudding
Mashed potato
Vegetables
Gravy

So you will need a baking potato big enough to make enough mash, vegetables and a defrosted frozen steak and kidney pudding, and gravy granules for the gravy. This is going to be just how you get it from the cafe :D

Get the jacket potato cooking in the microwave, so that's pierce the skin a few times and put it in on high for about 6 to 7 minutes. Meanwhile take a bowl from the cuboard and put the steak and kidney pud in the middle. To cook it you need to fill the bowl halfway up to the top of the pud with cold water. We're going to cook our veg in that water so fill the bowl up halfway with vegetables (I had carrots and broccoli) and top up with cold water. Salt the water if you like.

When the potato is finished put the bowl of pud and veg in the microwave and cook as per the instructions plus one extra minute, it takes about 7 minutes all in. While this is happening, with a fork scoop out the inside of the potato and mash it up with some butter from the fridge and maybe a splash of milk. Make up a little gravy in a mug with the granules.

When the microwave goes ding you can take the pud out the veggie water and strain the vegetables through a fork, assemble your meal and pour the gravy over the top and it's ready to eat.

I would take a picture but my lunch is long gone now ;D

I wonder if you can cook bacon in the laminator?...

I'm liking the sound of that, not sure about the veg, but certainly easy and simple enough to do the rest here and I can imagine the looks I'd get eating a pud/mash/gravy in the little canteen area we have here.

Laminating bacon sounds interesting. We get through laminators very quickly here, I wonder of that's why!

I brought in yesterday's leftover chile for lunch. Actually tasted better than last night's dinner!

Leftover's always taste better than the original!

Isn't the pud soggy though Jonny?

I can't agree with you more Johnny - sandwiches get soooo dull after a while.

I've never actually tried to "cook" at work - I like your thinking though.

I often make too much of something so I can freeze it/bag it up for use at work where's there's a microwave. It's great. Today I brought in some left over pasta bake, and some soup, a couple of rolls with some pate, and a small bowl of salad. Sandwich vans beware!! :D

That sounds cracking Johnny, any definitely something that I would do, if my work had a microwave :( I may venture into having something a tad more interesting during the day as sani's are making me sad.... even though I'm the one making them.

Sarni's don't have to be sad - you need to be motivated to make 'em though. I spice things up by trying different types of bread - and fill 'em to the brim! :D

I've been doing pitta breads or wraps rather than regular sandwiches as I find them so dull.
Sounds like a good idea though Jonny :D Work's got a microwave so I have quite a few options.

hehe - I eat a lot. ;) That lunch is not in one sitting. Because I have breakfast at about 5 by 1030 I have some food, then around 1300, and lastly around 1530. I do have an apple and a banana with me usually as well to fill in the gaps. I'm going to get so fat one of these days! :p

Working innit! :p

Means I can leave work at about 4/430 which is great as that means I can get to the gym when it's empty, and have an afternoon to do whatever I want to do. :)
