We've been out all day so couldn't watch it, but never was I expecting to come home and find us through!

Totally agree - and even though I'm at work, I have a DVD player right next to me. ;D

What the chuff happened?
How the hell did we win that one? After nearly losing to the USA int he first match we go and beat Australia?!?!
Lets hope we get France not New Zealand then. We've got a chance of beating the garlic munching surrender monkeys.
Simon/~Flibster
Right, (just back from celebrating!), we did it in the same manner as 4 years ago. The Australian game is good, but they do have problems. Because of things like Aussie Rules they are great at some parts of the Union game (like passing, running, kicking), but as they lack a decent base of players they tend to have problems in important areas.
We beat them for power as their scrum is weak. When attacking, Aus looked strong but simply didn't have the power to stop us when we were attacking. This means we (going for power rather than style) got a lot of penalties given to us.
Also, 4 years ago I remember watching some hairy performances from us during the group stages too (I think it was during the group stages).
Always best to peak later, rather than sooner.
I don't care if we lose any more games. Beating Aus was the most important thing for me.

Well done Ingerlund - bit of a surprise result there but nicely done.
Let's hope us Jocks can do the same against the Pumas tomorrow.
I have no idea who will come out on top tomorrow. Argentina have been fantastic, but then Scotland have played really well (aside from against New Zealand of course). Even playing Italy with most decent players being rested they've still managed to come out on top.
Argentina have been full of confidence and Scotland have been playing very attackign rugby. £10 says Argentina target Paterson. If he gets shut down, I think Scotland will struggle.
That was an awesome game.. Dym seems to have forgotten I was there too :p
Such a drastically different England to the one we've seen so far this tournament, or indeed than we've seen in 4 years. Strong attacking, giving ground at times but always taking it back by force. They managed to put the Australians under such heavy pressure that they were making some really daft mistakes. The Aussie number 6 was doing particularly stupid things all throughout. Their inability to maintain a scrum was kinda frustrating, but it did help alter the pace of the game, and at times provided a critical few extra minutes sucked up of play. Initially I thought it was deliberate, but once the game got really progressing it was obvious they just lack the experience and strength to handle it. I wouldn't be surprised to see them losing out against other teams scrums.
Both sides played some awesome rugby though, fast paced, very brutal, very heavy attack with nothing in the way of let-up between them. Superb stuff all round. Once the game got into its initial flow it was clear any win was liable to be by a small margin. I felt sorry for Mortlock at the end there when he had the opportunity to steal a win with that kick. To miss by such a small margin is probably going to be something he'll kick himself about for ages.

I thought Wilco was looking a bit shaky to be honest, which concerns me for next week. He's still the pinion of the England game plan and if we lose him we'll be in a real mess :/
I really enjoyed the game though an excellent effort from a strong team :)

Good result for England (I will always support my country)
But I have to say I've been watching the New Zealand & France game and oh my god I'm bored :( I played Rugby Union whilst at school and was quite good at it, but just can't seem to get on with the game any more. They'd been playing for 5 minutes (just before Betsen's injury) and New Zealand had just made the exact same kick into touch. It's been nothing but make 1 pass and boot the ball up the other end where the other team will catch it and boot it back!
If you want to watch exciting fast paced rugby watch the Super League Playoff final next Saturday at 6pm between St Helens & Leeds.
/whinge over
What a game. Both matches today have been great. Normally I'd never support a French side (sorry Will!) but seeing as New Zealand get away with murder it was good to see another side get the final say.

Congratulations to England and France, I didn't really expect either of the results yesterday but at least it went well for Northern Hemisphere teams and it opens up the RWC a bit. Here's hoping that Scotland can beat the Pumas. :)

Merde :(
Not a bad game, we're definitely showing that we're slowly clawing our way back.
I think we do not too bad for a country with a population of only 5 million.
Our recent performances in rugby and football are a credit to such a small nation - vive l'Ecosse.
Good luck Ingerlund - I'll be shouting for you (as much as it grates :p ).
It was a fantastic match though. I was really rooting for Scotland.
Looks like I'll be alone with the France cheering next weekend! lol! :D

Shame that we couldn't do it against Argentina but sometimes things just don't quite fall the way they should. Apparantly they do have four times the number of rugby players that Scotland do though albeit without a professional league in Argentina itself.

Obviously I want England to win, but if France deserve it then I'll not begrudge them winning...
Either that or I'll just kill you if France win :D
Aww you're so sweet. I'm probably going to be in Norf Lundun next weekend - but I shall try and swing past if I can. I'll definitely be there at the dinner (you still going to that?) though so I'll give you your dvd back then! :)

You would have thought with that many players there would be sufficient demand / money for a pro league.
USA was a bit more understandable, there is just a general lack of interest in the sport so their team only had 2 professional players in it and their 'premier' league is apparently about similar to our ENL1. Given all that I was very pleased to see how relatively well the USA were playing.

We couldn't think of a film to watch which would be a satisfactory follow up to that match...
We watched Terminator 3 and my older brother fell asleep...
We slapped him, poked him, hit him with pillows...
In the end we gave up and left him to sleep on the sofa :p

Well done to England, France simply didn't deserve to win that match. Perhaps it was because I had nothing really invested in the match but I didn't find it all that exciting watching the match itself, the reaction of the people around me however.... :D
I hope tomorrows match, well todays now, is good. I'd like to see South Africa do it but either way I hope it is entertaining. :)

It would be very interesting if (when) South Africa win tomorrow.
In the match 3 weeks ago England weren't even playing, but if they play how they have for the last two matches then it'll actually be a challenge and should be a good game.
It'll be a good final anyway because the England team have something to prove.
I imagine me and Simon will get quite drunk whatever happens :p

Having lost their last game to both South Africa and Argentina England have something to prove against both sides.
Personally I want the Boks in the final. Not because I think it will be an easier game but because the misery of that pool game is still fresh in my mind.

Ouais - si seulement ils avaient jouer commes ils ont fait contre les Kiwis j'estimes que le resultats aurait ete l'inverse.
England deserved to win that as I feel they kept it together better. France did well not to let that try affect their game. I was screaming at the tv - a good match, still disappointed at the result though. :( England better bloody well win or else I shall be pretty pissed off.
Still France have a chance for 3rd place - not a bad result 3rd in the world - and we beat NZ something I'm very proud about. :)
I hope SA get through as that will be a good final - but SA are SO strong I fear we may not have what it takes to beat them :(
Yes. I have the right to pick and choose the nationality I care to be. I could just root against England if it makes you happier ;)

If by we you mean England or South Africa then yes you are. :)
I have to say I thought the second of the semi-finals was more exciting but Argentina didn't half make some stupid mistakes and from players you wouldn't expect either. Good luck to both teams, I hope it is an interesting and open game. :)

That went against all my expectations... Some good attacking from France, but some blinding work from the Argentines. More than a little scrappy though which made it a bit ugly, unnecessary punches and fighting breaking out between both teams. Chabal was brought on too late to make a difference, and it was noticeable how the French improved when he came on. I suspect if he hadn't already been standing down Laporte's head would have been on the chopping block. That was not a worthy performance from the French.
Next time.... Next time....
I hope england win (though we'll never hear the end of it) but I don't think it'll happen. Fingers crossed though. :) I won't be watching the match as I'm out and about, but I hope it's a good one. :)

I'm glad i'm not the only one that thought this. There were a number of times where it ended up being a scrum, wtf didn't you just give SA a penalty for the exact same thing 10 mins ago? Not quite the slaughtering I was expecting, but the game might have been more interesting had the TV official not been blind!

Ah well, it's been a positive overall though. We have some good players coming through and have direction again. Could be worse.
And no, it wasn't a try.

Not wishing to rub more salt into the wound but I thought that was a more entertaining game than the semi-final which is about all I was hoping for, it was more involving at the very least for me. It wasn't a try but then again I've seen them given under more dubious circumstances so perhaps a little unlucky particularly after such a good break.
I did meet an Irishman out tonight who claimed that Ireland had won the WC tonight because of the ref, apparantly he was Irish and that was good enough for him to claim victory.
There were a few odd calls last night, missed obstructions and the like, but thats the game and it happens. I'm proud of the team, they played strong and hard and some fantastic rugby and can come away with their heads held high from that match :)
I really haven't got a clue about Rugby, but we lost, so it sucks.
Second place is the first of the losers.
I missed it, but at least it was a close match from the scores - better than 36-0!
