Hi, I am hoping to get buy a new optical drive for the PC which supports DVD DL - R wrting. on the OC site there is a Samsung drive that supports this.
How ever there is both a IDE & Sata formats ! ::confused:
I take it that I should get the Sata one as access speed will be slightly better and I have 2 or 3 spare Sata ports on my MoBo ! ?
I current use one Sata port on my MoBo for my Sata 1 Hard Drive.
This is not RAIDed
Many thanks
In all honesty, you'll probably not notice much difference in terms of speed, but as SATA cables are much easier to manage and IDE devices are only likely to decrease in popularity, I'd get the SATA. I have both IDE and SATA Samsung drives and I can't fault either of them.

MARK,
Do I need to do any set up in BIOS for a Sata Optical drive, or is just a case of plug lead in and boot up, and the OS picks up the new drive ! ?
Only the same sort of settings you'd have to change for a hard drive - i.e. as long as the BIOS detects it, you're done.

So just connect cable and boot up ?
Thats pretty straight forward then !
So at last I can do some DVD DL - R BURNing !
Let the BURNing begin
Many thanks Mark.

As Mark says it should be a simple case of connecting and away you go providing your motherboard is reasonably new (past 2 years or so) to recognise the SATA optical straight off. Then you may have to set the boot order but that would apply with any optical drive. :)

Thats a point about boot order !
I will install the drive and see how the MoBo & OS pick it up. Then if I need to I can change the Boot order.
Thanks for that, I totally forgot
