I think you are right..
Even the 1080s have dropped quite considerably recently. I have my eye on the Philips which is around £900 at the moment from John Lewis, who give a 5 year warrantee for free.
I wa looking at the LG the other day in currys. I'm a bit confussed why it says WS option - No???
LG 1080 (http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@2017172482.119217834 1@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfhaddmemmdjlecflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&sku=726223&fm=12&sm=0&tm=0&tabIndex=1)

This is the Philips range.. Why the big difference in price?
Pixel Plus and Ambient lighting?
Philips Range (http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@2017172482.119217834 1@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfhaddmemmdjlecflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=ProductList&category_oid=-30633&fm=12&sm=0&tm=0&show_all=true#PHILIPS:(any):37:(any):0:3750:PageNo _0:SortOrder_DOWN)
Is it not better to get somethng with DVB?
Not if you've already got a receiver - besides it gives you more flexibility this way :)

Well we plan to have;
V+ box => HDMI
360 => Component - might stick this on the spare HDMI
DVD Recorder => Scart - might use component for this :)
Wii => Scart/S-Video
iBook => VGA
omg they're gettin cheap :shocked: its almost not worth me importing from HK!
whats people think about this (www.marksweb.co.uk/docs/LA42BE0E.pdf) for £530?

Is that contrast figure right?
i can only suspect it is - i've never really understood that particular figure - the rest is pretty easy to get ur head around, but that - aint a clue.

well it seems the new phillips ones are 4500:1 but I thought most TVs were 1000:1 + but not has high as that :shocked: shows how much I know ;D
well i got the pdf off my g/f's dad who is MD @ goldtec so i don't think he'd publish any false details.
*edit*
just had a quick look over currys tvs and 5000:1 seems average tbh - few higher, one or two lower...

I'm not saying he is, I just didn't think the LCD's went that high that was all. Seems like a good deal to me, is that 1080p?
I'm not saying he is
no, sorry, didn't mean to say you were - just wanted to clarify the source as its obviously not a currys style link and goldtec are hardly a well known high street brand! lol ;D
is that 1080p?
indeed it is :D wouldn't buy any less :cool:

that isn't a bad price then for a 1080p set.
Didn't realise they were 5000:1 :o Haven't looked at TVs for a while ;D
*Is not really looking at the TV thread*
honest! ;)

Also found this (http://www.directtvs.co.uk/Teco_TL3791RW_37_inch_HD_Ready_LCD_TV_TL3791RW/version-1.asp) which is a different brand but they use Samsung panels too which would please the brand conscious people :D
Samsung are quoting contrast ratios up to 25,000:1 on their newest range of TVs. 4,500:1 isn't a problem. :)
You have to watch some of the contrast figures. The way they measure them isn't always a true reflection of performance. It has something to do with taking a minimum and maximum and working out an average or something, can't quite remember.
It's a bit like when AMD started the XP1400+ when it was really only 1200MHz system.

We'll just have to decide between the hannspree and the Teco. Can actually go to Huddersfield and see it being demoed too which is cool :D

Just been looking into the Teco in more detail and it seems it has audio input for the HDMI signals, I thought HDMI took sound and video? :huh:
HDMI does, DVI doesn't. Since you can get a DVI to HDMI cable, that probably explains it. :)

Have a squiz at this manual (http://www.teco-lcdtv.com/StoreImages/10d0c0a4-0a49-40b2-9445-89725ba569e2Mainstream%2032-37-40-4291.pdf), can you work out why we've got audio in too? Whereas on this (http://europe.hannspree.net/download_file.jsp?file_name=/_download_/filectrl/JT02-37E1-000G_UG_EU_EN.pdf) set there isn't :confused:

It's a bit like when AMD started the XP1400+ when it was really only 1200MHz system.The AMD story is slightly different as it was never really supposed to be MHz based but this is correct. The same with response times and brightness numbers, usually the quoted numbers are the absolute best case, or they are ratios/timings based on two specific colours that happened to have a great time :)
