View Full Version : I can't believe it....
I'm in shock. I'm numb. I'm confused. I'm actually thinking of selling my little viagra'ed hairdryer.
I don't know why - I've had it 2.5yrs (the longest I've ever owned a car) and I have enjoyed over a year of turbo charged madness... I love it. It really is a beast... however something is saying to me that it's time to move on.
I mean *nothing* is going to be quite as good at it. It's faster than the majority of cars I come across on the road it handles better than any car I've ever driven or had a ride in, it's all in all a fantastic fun perfect sports car.
Yet I'm still musing on replacing it. Obviously my mind is straying to things that I could modify and play with... but I don't know if I want to do that. Maybe I'm waiting for a stop gap until I have the ability to get something really special?
I just don't know. I know a lot of you will be in shock as you all know how very proud I am of it and how much I love it, and how much time and money (not as much as you'd think) I've put into it. I just think, yes, I've done it, it's exactly how I wanted it - now it's time to move on. I mean, I seldom drive it anywhere but London, and how I haven't been knicked yet I just don't know... The fact that in London I can do double the speed limit in just over 5s is ridiculous! I want a bit more luxury, creature comforts and space. I'm a pretty big chap and I'm starting to feel I want to be able to feel a bit more comfy in my car. Obviously I'd still want something fairly potent, but nothing is going to be as good or as chuckable as that....
So you see my dilema (sorry for the rant and splurge) i kinda do want to change but at the same time I don't. The thing is I have no idea what I want, I keep getting pulled in all sorts of directions... from Audis to Alfas to VWs to BMWs to flippin' Jags!!! I'm running out of brands here! lol! I don't really have any stipulations I'm putting onto myself... well maybe low mileage and less than 7 years old (my car is a W reg) - of course I'd love a 200+ bhp RWD car but at the moment that seems less important (though RWD is still a winning factor for the time being). What a palaver!
There's no point to this thread really other than letting out some hot air - but I know when I sell her it'll hurt... but I still feel it's getting to that time now... Hmm I'll probably end up in some Fiat rotbox! lol! :D
Getting old and sensible tbh. Happens to us all, then later the mid-life crisis happens. :p ;D
Yeah, I'm shocked, for sure, but if it proves to be really what you want then why not. :)

The missus want you to get a sensible car for when she starts dropping sprogs eh Will? :p
how much you gonna want for it?? :p
having looked on parkers and on the web my car with the mileage it has and the good condition it's in is selling between 6-6.5k which is a lot more than I was expecting - I doubt that my mods would put the price up unfortunately. :/

**** off!!! No ****ing chance!!!!!

You're welcome. :p
I have to confess that the French connection with the deux chevaux didn't occur to me until after I posted it. An inspired choice for you then if ever I made one. :p
Will you are far too young for a sensible car. What you are saying it that you want a diesel pos to run around in and keep your motor as a weekend toy. You are 27 will, add 15-20 years and then look at trading it in for a slower car.
That said if you get rid without chatting to me, I will be seriously miffed. :D

Mmm i want an mx5 for my next car, doubt it will happen but i can dream I honestly would miss my massive boot. I think you have covered all the reasons, there is nothing wrong with you at all. There comes a time where you need something build for comfort and a little bigger than your toy car. Doesn't mean whatever you replace it with can't be fun.;)
I'm not shocking people as much as I thought! Maybe this is normal after all?!
Zirax - that's one thing I'm not going to get a diesel, yes I know they're very good now, but I just don't like 'em. :p

I traded Dexy in for Barney!
There comes a time when comfort is needed :p

there does indeed come a time in your life, priorities change.
Just because you are getting rid of the sporty one, does not mean it can't be replaced by a more comfortable sporty one.
I mean, I wend from a Jeep Grand Cherokee to my Impreza! not long AFTER haveing the 2 kids!
Its great, I can loon about like a teenager and have some fun on my own, then stick the wife and kids in it and go on holiday :D
Best of both worlds for us!
What about an M3? loads of luxury, RWD, can be sensible, can also be a monster!

You better not sell it before I get a rid in it mate otherwise there will be trouble  ;D
EDIT: how much would you have to spend?

I thought about mentioning a M3 last night, either that or one of those sporty A3's? A 3.2 quattro should fit the bill. I can't believe that Matt hasn't been in here yet recommending the mini cooper S. Its a lot more comfy then I was expecting and you can still go fast and hurl it round corners. If its not quick enough, then a quick remap and tinkery with the SC should sort you out.
Gah the age is a killer as surely its Nissan 200sx / 300 territory? The 330D are meant to be good motors though :p
Yeah I was thinking of a 200sx but I know I'd just throw some money at it! :/
I don't want to fork out a huge amount of money tbh, and I don't particularly want a diesel as it doesn't suit my style really. I'm not thinking of spending much more than 7 grand (having sold the mx5). So it does limit what I can get. I don't know, I know I'll probably miss the speed and handling, but when I get hire (usually focus'es, audis, etc...) it does feel nice to be in a comfy car.
The people on ocuk are saying that I'll miss it and hanker for it within months... but I don't know. I borrow my fathers Octavia Sport for some trips and it's just "pleasant" - I don't need to be "on the edge" all the time - I feel I have to drive the 5 like a racing car ALL the time.
Meh :/ I'm confused I don't know :(
Matt - you better get your arse down here then! :p

Don't buy a MINI, I can pull it off but you'll look like you bat for the other team ;)

And here I thought I hid it so well!
Yeah I was thinking of a 200sx but I know I'd just throw some money at it! :/
You'd need to - they aren't satisfying enough as standard.
Right - you're off my christmas card list! :(
7 grand should get you a tastefully modded 200sx that should be at least hitting 300bhp. Have a look on ffoc, but I have banned myself from there as it will end up costing me a _lot_.
Another thought, Teg type R? 9k rpm screamer or even an Accord Type R if you want comfort and the occassional blat. It sounds like you want to be lazy, so how about a V8? I don't really know much about yank motors, other than I want a Pontiac Firebird or Corvette.
There is a lad selling a Focus ST170 near me, but unless you drop serious money and get an RS / new ST you'll die of boredom.
ST170 is dire. Not after a VTEC yo either. I don't really know if I want a mad fast car - something quick would be fine. Ideally I'd love to keep the mx5 and have a ****ty run around as an alternative. I wonder if I can do something along those lines... But it's a bit daft having 2 cars especially if I can't store one in a garage. :(

well garage the mx5 and leave the shed outside ;)
doesn't the new ST have a 2.4l Vovo engine? What about a T5 volvo something? Older but should be a right laugh
Given your age Paul, surely it will be peanuts to get a shed and insure? Both have to be stored on the road Leo. I think you are rapidly running out of motors really. I would just have a mooch about and see what takes your fancy.
Having just seen the price of my new windows, my idea of having a look just went flying out the window :(
