Well as this game is due out shortly I thought I'd start a thread on it. OXM have reviewed and here is some info from the review;
Run down on the first magazine review for Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Singleplayer: 10/10
Multiplayer: 10/10
Overall: 10/10
New info released in review:
10/10, with multiplayer rivaling Halo 3, a ranking system better than Halo 3, 10/10 Singleplayer AND multiplayer (alone). Enemy Intel unlocks cheats, some normal (Unlimited Ammo), some cool and fun (When you kill an enemy, they burst into a mound of tires).
-Arcade mode after completing game (Points for Headshots, multi-kills, and blowing up cars and such)
-Max level 55, but stuff keeps coming after that.
-All ghillied up is the flashback, you play as Cpt. Price (a young one)
-CoD4 manages to cram something into every level.
-You play as "Soap" MacTavish (SAS), and Seargant Jackson (US)
-"To say Modern Warfare's visual fidelity is immediately apparent would be a criminal understatement. Torrid rainfall, rolling thunder crackling lightning, and marvelously detailed textures and character models all combine to make you say "Whoa"."
-CoD4 does everything right and nearly nothing wrong. But where it elevates itself above even the best 360 shooters is how all of the good stuf is ludicrously good. The campaign never lets up, while the multiplayer is a AAA affair in itself. This swing for the fences has belted CoD4 way out of the park.
What you all wanted to know
Overkill Perk: You can carry 2 primary weapons instead of 1 and a pistol. e.g I could go into a battle with an MP5 and a M16.
+ and -
+Awesome Moments on literally every mission.
+Multiplayer quality, quantity and depth that rivals Halo's.
-A few frustratingly tough areas on the higher difficulty levels.
It also mentioned that the game kept a good pace throughout the game (most games fizz out later on)

The visuals look better in motion.
In the moste tense moment in the game's best level (All Ghillied Up), all you can do is wait and pray. (It shows a pic of you prone with enemies 5-10 feet away)
Fire? Chaos? Guns blazing? Does it look like Call of Duty now?
Smash people like ants in the AC-130 gunship level.
A whopping 16 multiplayer maps await you out of the box.

60 FPS- as if u didn't know already
World War II is history! With a reinvigorated developer at the helm, Call of Duty 4 reinvents a franchise - and damn near perfects the military shooter in the process.

I'm going to trade in some old GC games to see how much I can get towards it. As I've said to Davey the 1 game I'm definitely going to buy, the rest I can rent :D
I'm a bit rubbish at narrowing it down to one game :o

well the rest I can wait for on rentals. Don't have very much money at the moment, but if I can scrape together £15 or so I can probably get the game :) then it'll keep me occupied for ages.
this looks awesome :D I was well impressed by the beta so looking forward to the full release.
even better i'm having an op on 14th november with 2 weeks off so plenty of time to game :D

Review sounds awesome, and I want the Overkill perk, having two main weapons will be fantastic. I don't care what level I have to get to to get it, I'll do it as fast as I possibly can.

I know what you mean :D also Level 55 :shocked: stuff keeps on coming even though your level doesn't increase!
The single player sounds excellent too. I'm going the soap route too don't want to be a pansy yank :p

I was getting fairly decent on multiplayer by the time I finished, so I'm hoping I'll still be okay when everyone else starts playing it. Hopefully they'll all be rubbish new players and make me look good :D

Can PC play against Xbox? I'd rather they couldn't, the experienced mouse and keyboard users will waste the console players I reckon.

It did, but it's the only current one to allow it. In fact the only game on the horizon I know of that will also support it is Sega's Universe at War (I think that's it).
Is CoD4 Games for Windows Live then? Though even if it is that doesn't necessarily mean cross platform play.

One of the very few that did it, it's certainly not standard. I think it only works on the games that are written for DX10 and Vista, the "Games for Windows" ones that have achievements. As far as I know, COD4 hasn't been made like that.

As I understand it, it breaks down like this:
Games For Windows - Games certified (maybe even published) by Microsoft for whatever that's worth. It should install well and play nice with Windows, so say MS
Games for Windows Live - Games that are tied to Live like an xbox game. You need a Live ID or local profile to track saves and gamerscore, and a gold account to play on Live servers with matchmaking etc. Cross platform play is not a pre-requisite, just an option.

Games which wish to be included in the Games for Windows platform must meet certain requirements regulated by Microsoft. These include,[3] but are not limited to:
* An "Easy Install" option that installs the title on your PC in the fewest possible steps and mouse clicks

* Compatibility with the Xbox 360 controller (where applicable)
* Installs and runs properly on x64 versions of Windows Vista and is compatible with 64-bit processors (though the game itself can be 32-bit)
* Supports normal and widescreen resolutions, such as 4:3 aspect ratio (800 x 600, 1024 x 768), 16:9 aspect ratio (1280 x 720), and 16:10 aspect ratio (1152 x 720, 1280 x 800)

Shame, but we both know we'll spend most of our time in the MP mode. If all the maps are as fun as the 3 with the Beta I'll have to drag myself away from it to spend any time at all in the SP game :)
I always play it on mega-uber-hard-you're-going-to-die-this-game-is-****ing-impossible setting, and then I get bored of it and stop playing it! ;D
We should start playing more of these type of MP games as a BD group. Now I have more time to myself (i.e. not travelling) I'm slowly getting back into my PC gaming :cool:

From what I've read Davey the sniper level they showed a while back is absolutely brilliant!
Will, get yourself a 360!!! There will no doubt be a BD clan on there consisting of Davey, Me, Wellington and a few others I'm sure :)
We might even get Mr Feek involved again as we'll all be starting from the beginning again. I'm sure Jen will cave to peer pressure and buy id ;)
On a side note, anyone fancy getting the gears games going again? Really miss them :(
Nah not interested in consoles sorry :( I just get bored - the pc is a tool and useful and as a side effect it can play games! Surely we can still do online stuff with PCs? I did it 10 years ago on dial up! :p

PC gaming is just too much hassle for me these days. I like the fact I have one box, I dont have to worry about compatibility or performance issues, and I can sit in my front room and just get on with it.
Still play the odd PC game just for a change (in fact I should be buying Universe at War on PC rather than 360), but console's where it's at for me now :)
