:D

Hopefully Sky One will do as good a job of this as they did of The Hogfather. Unfortunately I'll not get to see it when it's broadcast as I no longer have Sky One (bloody Virgin/Sky idiocy) but sure I'll pick it up at some point :)

Some unsurety about the casting, David Jason and Sean Astin don't seem to fit properly as Rincewind and Twoflower. But good to see Christopher Lee returning as Death :D

Considering Pratchett is involved in it same as Hogfather then fingers crossed it should be good.

David Jason was brilliant as Albert and I think they should have left him as that character - in Mort there both characters are in it - if they are going to do others from the Discworld series, recycling actors is not the best of ways to go.

I can't wait to see the Luggage :D I want one :D

I'm really unsure about this and I've just seen that Nigel Planner is back as a different character :( how to really confuse the people who don't read the books. I'll still watch it though.

:D

Hopefully Sky One will do as good a job of this as they did of The Hogfather.

I hope not! I thought Hogfather was awful. The Pratchet humor didn't shine through and the casting of Teatime was dreadful :(

Still I echo the sentiment, I hope The Colour of Magic is good.

That's exactly what I thought too. I might acquire The Colour of Magic, I'll see what the reviews are like for it.

Once again Sky have managed to destroy a Pratchett book.

David Jason as Rincewind is a joke and once again none of the Pratchett humour shone though. Don't get me started on none of the Wizards smoking

At least I'm not the only one then :( They have completely raped my memory of the book. The only thing I liked was the luggage.

Wasn't sure if it was worth making a new thread, but I see Going Postal is on 30/31 May. Wish I had Sky but Sky has a 7 minute preview if anyone is interested, http://sky1.sky.com/sky-highlights-going-postal. Have to admit i've not read this one so fingers crossed its a bit better than the last two. :)

Haven't been particularly impressed with Colour of Magic or Hogfather - part of the problem was David Jason - he can't play both Rincewind and Albert... This looks better though. I have really enjoyed the Moist von Lipwig books too.

I'd love one of the Guards books to be adapted.

Anyone see the animated version of Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music? I really enjoyed them.

Another one who just didn't like David Jason being in any of the previous adaptations of the books he wasn't anything like Albert from the books and dont get me started on him as Rincewind, i refused to watch Colour of Magic due to him playing Rincewind. Only good thing that came out of Hogfather was the guy who plays Death and Susan as characters.

Hopefully this adaptation is better as others have been let down by not getting the humour right and also poor casting in using David Jason in parts he should never have been anywhere near.

I was going to record this, but forgot it was on... I'll have to wait for it now, but based upon past performances, and the fact that the book wasn't all that great, I won't be holding my breath for it...

I half enjoyed it and was, again, half underwhelmed...

Me and Mrs Dym agreed that Pratchett is better in print (although it was nice to see him have a small part at the end :D).

Kari and I have watched the first half so far. She's never read any Discworld novels, so had no preconceptions and she enjoyed it, especially Adora Belle Dearheart who is everything I perceived in my mind.
Going Postal is one of my favourite books, and so I was looking forward to it.

My general thought is they've made a few odd story changes. Nothing major, but still little bits that seemed a bit unnecessary. The whole moralising over her smoking was absurd (don't remember it being in the book either, but it's been a while since I last read it). Hoping the second half picks up a bit. I'm a little disappointed that his suit isn't more golden. I pictured him as more used car salesman / quiz show host golden, not the rather tarnished thing he's been wearing so far.

I enjoyed it more than I have done the previous two but I think it suffers from the same problem as a lot of films/tv series that come from books. The books are far better and once again non of the Pratchett humour shone through.

The moralising of smoking thing really annoyed me but given it's time slot (6pm) it's clearly aimed at kids as well as adults and nowadays anyone who smokes is either a bad guy or delivering some kind of anti-smoking lesson. I also wasn't keen on Lipwig's costume, from the book it should have been properly golden and all they gave him was an off-gold hat :(

3rd try for SKY and sorry still not anywhere good enough :( I know they have limited time to fit the books into on screen but when they do this the humour from Pratchett goes out the window along with the storyline of the books. It would have been fine to watch if you hadn't read any Pratchett before but for a lot of us who have it missed yet again.

The only good thing was Adora to come out of this as they got her pretty well done the rest of the characters just didn't get anywhere near. The only question is which book will they want to do next and make another muddle of.
