I use DVD Decrypter (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.turner747/uh/SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe) - does everything I need it to. I have used DVD Shrink (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/DVD-Shrink-Download-4128.html) in the past which is handy for shrinking DL DVDs to fit a single layer DVD.

Thanks, i'll try that. Have used DVD Shrink before so know it's a cracking program.

I'm using FairUse at the moment, will give Handbrake a try if it doesn't work out thanks :).

Handbrake is good for ripping stuff to iPods but for PC based video I prefer AutoGK. I also use a program called AnyDVD to allow me to rip straight from DVD.

Gordian Knot (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gordianknot) would be my suggestion, it contains pretty much everything you could possibly need. It may take a couple of tries to work out because there is a fair bit to it because it is so powerful but it really isn't that hard and the FAQs seem pretty good. :)

DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to rip the DVDs. AutoGK to convert the ripped DVD into avi with subtitles.

Btw 'ello Cliffy. Enjoy the footie and beers last night? :D

Create a playlist and then just drag the playlist into your media player?

Or just use VLC's Open Directory feature. Just need the avi's in the same folder.

Think you can. I rip my DVDs to my external HDD and VLC has no problems playing stuff off it.

Running VLC on an external HDD media player might be challenging though. :p

Depending on which tool you're using there might be options to combine the files into one. Or, the player might have some limited playlist support (some do).

Yes I know its standalone but surely its connected to the PC in someway?

And I don't put VLC on my external HDD. I just run it from C:

Hello, i certainly did :D.

I found FairUse very easy to use and am very happy with the results, grabbed a retail version off a torrent so i could change file size from 700mb to 1gig for a slightly higher resolution. Plus it had no sound sync problems at all.

What it can't do is help me with is one of the films i am trying to convert which has come down as the VOB files etc and not an actual ISO so i can't mount it. Anyone know a good way of getting round that without creating a DVD job in Nero?

Only connected to the PC when transferring or downloading stuff

When it's playing back stuff to the TV it's on it's own, plugged into the mains and connected to the TV by composite

It's a hardware media player not just a external HDD

Check the link i posted

I have something similar and if I press play on the folder the files are in then it'll play all the files inside in order.
