Police Accident.
I had my first one yesterday. Bloody hellfire !!!!!
I went to an immediate response job where a female was about to be sectioned and started kicking off with the mental health team so I turned up and as it happens she was ok but I parked the panda in the street which was a narrow and dimly lit cul-de-sac with cars either side parked partially on the road and the pavement so I didn't have much room either side when I came to reverse out for the ambulance.
Checking the mirrors I was too close to a parked car's wingmirror so I stopped, applied the handbrake and selected first gear but I misjudged the clutch bite and the car rolled backwards several inches and clattered a car's wing mirror leaving a small scuff mark.
I had to inform supervision then I knocked on the lasses's door to tell her and on seeing it she was fine and said accident's happen and wasn't going to take matters further although it can't be swept under the carpet that easily and I said that she may be spoken to be a supervisor at a later time. She was fine about it but it smarts a little.
I had to do a statement under caution as to what happened and a decision will be made about what the outcome will be which will be .....
No further action.
A point on my police licence ( 3 and you are suspended from driving pending a retest )
File to the CPS for a decision on careless driving.
We will see although I feel such a tw@ for making a schoolboy error.

I would have thought since she wasn't bothered about it (and if was just a small scratch from the sounds of it) that it would have been left at that.

I don't understand this.. It's an accident.. every one has accidents??
I guess its to do with professional indemnity and abililty to do the job.
Sucks though.
I imagine all polacs have to be treated identically, so it's understandable.
Does the point expire after a while?
unlucky dude - going purely on logic, one would assume that first mistake, obvious knowledge that you messed up and the fact that you confronted it and didn't just hope no one noticed will get you excused on this occasion.
hoping for the best :)
I know nothing about this, but it's got to be no further action, surely.
Smeg happens :)
As Feek says, I guess it's the procedure :)

I think it's permanent Feek but I'm not 100% sure.
Nobody saw me clip the mirror but as a cop you have to do the job right. There was no way I was going to drive off even with such minor damage. The lass was even appreciative that I let her know but still, to miss the bite on the clutch ..... grrrr.

A message is made of it which comes to the attention of the Executive ( Chief, Dep and Acc ).
It is likely that no further action will be taken but as I understand it, in the name of accountability, all such incidents are referrred to the CPS for a decision. It may not be in the public interest to pursue this but time will tell.
Actually it is technically my second as I was in a pursuit ( when we were allowed to pursue ..... not now ) when a lad crashed his car and left the scene and his pregnant girlfriend and ran off. He went flying into a 30 zone and I went on the radio and said he was entering a 30 limit and that I was backing down. The lad lost control and crashed into a central refuge. I was temporarily suspended from driving but it was not my fault and I was exonerated. This happened just over the border of a neighbouring force so they investigated. I did it right in backing down because there was no way I was pursuing at speed from a national speed limit to a 30 zone with pedestrians ..... as it happened he lost control and crashed.
My vehicle didn't connect and was some distance behind but it was a Polac by the letter of.
He was later arrested and charged with numerous driving offences including disqualified driving, DOTAL, no insurance and no MOT.

Red tape at it's best?
How dare you suggest that the police are bogged down with beaurocracy and red tape Jonny.
Go stand in the corner and say ' I am correct in what I say ' 100m times.

It was, I have to say. The damage to the other car was about a quarter inch scuff which would likely be removed with T-Cut. I knocked on the lasses door and she was fine about it and didn't want to take it further but I told her it was a polac and would have to be throughly investigated.
