View Full Version : Photo help
Today a friend sent me some of the photos that he took at the wedding I went to Saturday, and there is one which is quite nice.
Thing is Debbs uncle is in the background. I am wondering if anyone has the knowledge on how to remove him but still keep the background looking good. There is also the fact that I have a lump on the right side of my forehead.
I really have no idea if what I'm asking is practical or not - if it is impossible then fair enough - it was just an idea :)
Anyway - enough waffle - the pic:

Airbrushing out the bunp shouldn't be too challenging - though it needs care to keep it natural looking.
Brushing out the uncle, howerver, now that's another story entirely unfortunately. Not impossible, but very time consuming to try to recreate a background that is passable as realistic. Of course, if you have another picture including that bit of background, then things get somewhat easier. If you don't, then a simpler option might be to crop you out of the image and replace the whole background.
Could be tricky, but maybe doable. Might be able to give it a quick bash at work tomorrow. Do you have access to a higher res pic? Maybe the original?
Hmmm yeah tricky. Its the upper half were its complex due to the bushes, but quite possibly doable. Got hires?
Do you have access to a higher res pic?
The copy I got sent to me is 2136x2848.
Here's a link to the one that was sent to Sam

Hahaha! I was sure this thread said 'Potato help' when I clicked on it! It must be bedtime. ;D
Might be able to give it a quick bash at work tomorrow.
Pffffbwahahaha!
Sorry that I don't know anything about photoshopping, but it is a good photo. Night night! :)
Only gave it a quick'ish blast, but it's not too bad. Could get better if I had more time though.

Cheers people :)
Only thing I'd change is the base of the flowers on the right. Just doesn't look real enough to me. And yeah, getting rid of the building and adding a nice blue sky would be good. Maybe if I get time later....
I showed the two pics to our guy here who's a dab hand at photo editing and asked him which one he thought was chopped, ie whether the bloke was put in or taken away. He said he thought he'd been added!
He then suggested killing the flats, adding a hilly scenic background and painting the sky blue :)
Lovely photochop Desmo, and a lovely picture of Sam. Given her usual dislike of photos I'm amazed she even posted it :)
Just as a note, I got into work at 9.00, started this at 9.05 and the pic was saved at 9.23. So, 18 minutes all in :D

Never did I think it could be done that quickly. I know some amazing stuff can be done, but not in 18 minutes. :)

Desmo - How did you get it so sharp? Were you using the clone stamp tool?

Yes mate, just using the clone stamp. You need to set the hardness just right. Too soft and your edges can be too blurred, too hard and they come across as too sharp and different areas don't blend well.
The other thing I did which makes gives a good finish is to manually cut out around the flowers and hand (any area that was in front of the guy) and paste it onto a new layer. Turn off the new flower and hand layer and now clone stamp the guy out of the original layer. It doesn't matter if you hit the flowers or hand. Once done, turn the flower and hand layer back on and you've still got your perfect and sharp edge to the flowers and hands. Gives a much nicer finish :)

Thanks! You do this sort of thing as a professional at all?
Ooh, thanks. I'll make a note of that. It's obviously the hardness bit I never get right.

Not quite. My actual job is desktop publishing producing artworks. But I guess I do get to fiddle with photoshop quite a bit so guess I've picked things up over the years :)

What he neglected to mention is mid way through, he noticed the clock on his puter hadn't been put back :p
Nice work!!!
