Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Quidco? It's one of those sites which you can earn cashback on with a large range of merchants on things like insurance, credit cards, purchases, mobile phones etc.

Copied and pasted from their site:
"Quidco is the web's cashback cooperative. Quidco collects referral commissions from online merchants and passes them all on to our members. The Quidco cooperative is a cashback revolution where members keep their full earnings in exchange for giving Quidco £5 out of their earnings once a year.

The Quidco model works for both the merchant and you. It enables the merchant to reach a large base of motivated savvy buyers and it enables you to get back big savings by buying from merchants who participate in the model."

My boss at work absolutely swears by them and has earnt (and received) a large amount of money back in the past year from them including ridiculously cheap car insurance due to the amount of cashback she received and an essentially free mobile phone contract.

In all honesty, I don't understand how they can work and get you all this money back... but apparently they do, and I know someone who has hard evidence of this.

Anyone else got any experience with them? I've signed up and bought our home/contents through them today. It was a saving on what we're currently paying and I should get £120 cashback on top of that... I'm just still feeling a little pesamistic on whether it's going to come to fruition or not! Still, worth a try and I can always cancel the policy within 14 days if I'm not happy. It was with a reputable company. :)

I love quidco :D
I don't quite know how it works but I made £82 from signing up for a Vodafone contract online in the summer and got £95 coming shortly for signing up with Prudential Car Insurance.
I've also used it for smaller transactions too, just checked and not including my car insurance which is going through now, I've made £96 out of quidco. Not bad at all :)

Oh well that's good :) One more person who likes them. How long does a transaction usually take to show up?

Mark
05-11-2007, 18:58
I'm sure you've seen adverts on other sites, right, well they get commission back for referring people who then go on and buy stuff. Quidco use the same referral schemes, but instead of keeping what they get back as profit, they give it back to you (after deducting £5/year). It takes a while (months) to get the money (though they usually acknowledge the transaction within a few days - it'll give you a rough idea how long it should take on the Quidco site), and I've not had any yet, but hopefully it'll start turning up within a month or two (I only signed up in September and haven't used it much yet).

Tip - if you're going to sign up, consider having a seperate browser just for buying stuff through Quidco. Firefox portable is a good one. The reason for this is because Quidco uses cookies to track their referral links, and all the other advertisers do this too, so you can end up with money that should have gone back to Quidco going to someone else. You should clear the cookies in this 'other' browser every now and then too.

A few days usually depending on the retailer, though it takes a few weeks for the payment to be authorised. I make quite a bit with Quidco and eBay as the payout is pretty good (35% of the seller's fees)

Mark
05-11-2007, 19:02
Ooh, didn't know it worked with eBay otherwise I'd have used it there at the weekend. Mind you, it was only a £12 winning bid, so wouldn't be that much. :)

Haly
05-11-2007, 19:17
I've never bothered clearing my cookies especially for quidco and never had a problem :) Although it is a wise thing to do I guess.
Also never bothered worrying too much about how long it takes for money to show up, as long as it's tracked, I know it's coming eventually and I could always do with the money ;D

I do always forget to use it for ebay though, really must get into the habit of it.

I started using it a coupla months ago and currently have made...£294.15 confirmed
Of which £60 has been paid to me, the rest will dribble in over time.
Its fantastic!
* 2x sets of car insurance (on when pru offered £130, and one now when they offer £95)
* 1x carphone warehouse contract
* various bits from play and HMV

Will renew home insurance next year through it aswell and redo the cars. Its very very good.

Ah fantastic. Was worried people would post lots of horror stories based on very little fact :D Glad everyone's having a positive experience. I don't really mind if it takes a few months to get the cash back as long as I get it.

Read all their bumf about cookies and browsers etc. before I went and did my quote/buy for the home insurance. I use Firefox anyway, so I just stuck with that. Just checked and I have £120 showing as "Validated". WOOHOO!! How exciting :D

How does doing car insurance for someone else work? If I put Leon's through on my account and he paid using his bank details, could he still get cashback on my quidco account?

I keep forgetting about Ebay too. MUST remember that next time... and play.com. It's just getting into the habit isn't it :)

There's absolutely tonnes of stuff to get discount/cashback on. My mobile contract is up this month, so that's next :D

Mark
05-11-2007, 20:10
Re - someone else's insurance. I'd guess that's down to the insurer as they'll decide whether or not to pay out. If the insurer pays out, Quidco will pay you, doesn't matter who the insurance is for or whose card you used to pay it.

Right, here's one for you quidco-ers :p

I tried on saturday to get my home contents insurance with More Th>n, it went through fine apparently and Quidco have validated the £65 cashback I should get from it. Since then I've not had a confirmation email from more th>n and on calling them apparently my policy doesn't exist.

I've ended up sorting out the insurance over the phone, I know that Quidco say they can't track when it's not done online but seeing as it had already been tracked and validated do you think that I will recieve the cashabck or will they remove the validation?

I'm not sure whether to call quidco and see what they can do, or leave it and hope.

I don't think I'll get it :( the online system has 14-days to sort itself out before my cheque based cover has to be paid or I lose it :p

The bloke on the phone was great actually, I said I was using quidco and that I didn't particularly want to sort it out over the phone and he said fair enough - he'll sort out a cheque based cover that gives me 14 days to pay, but I'm covered as of the phone call. And hopefully the internet policy will sort itself out by then so I'll get the rebate.

No, you have to take out a new policy. I've never ever found an insurance company (car or house) who gives me an incentive to stay with them at the end of the year anyway, so I usually swap for a much better deal. Only difference is I clicked the link in Quidco and went through that way rather then going straight to their website.

I would guess that you have to change networks for it to actually work.... that's usually how these phone offers work. I.e. you have to be a *new* customer.

It should say on the quidco site, the length differs depending on who it's with. Says on the right hand side when you're looking at the company. :)

Mark
30-01-2008, 23:14
Yeah, I combined years ago and also try to make use of capped price offers while the market is heading upwards like it is now (the rate can be a little higher than standard to start with, but it can soon pay off with all these 15% hikes going around). The price usually takes a shocking jump when the offer ends though.

It varies from company to company. My last order for the ink and toner was only made yesterday afternoon and it's showing on my account this morning. Some can take longer, even up to a week. Each company has tracking details on it's page....looking at Play, here are their stats...

Statistics

Tracking Speed
Fast (0 - 30+ days, 1 day average)

Tracking Reliability

JackpotJoy are offering £30 quidco for new signups who deposit a minimum of £10. So that's £20 profit straight away :)

They also match your initial deposit as well although to withdraw money you have to bet at least four times that. Doesn't bother me as if I win I'll just bet again, if I don't win I've still gained my £20 profit from Quidco :)

Buildings and Contents insurance is due, did it all through Lloyds for the £90 cashback from Quidco but it wouldn't give me an online quote so I phoned them up and got a quote that's £80/year better than my current insurers for a better level of cover.

Shame that I won't get the quidco on it though :(

It is important that you generate a new quote and purchase directly. If the quote has been generated via another site or advertisement the sale will not be attributed to the affiliate and the customer will not receive the cashback

At least I got a better price from them than Norwich Union.

Yeah it's a shame that you can't get cashback if for whatever reason the website doesn't work. Great saving though!! We got £120 quid cashback for going with Natwest last yr. I've found that stuff like home/life insurance gives the largest amount of cashback through Quidco. Currently waiting on £160, which is due towards the end of the year for 2 life insurance policies and pet insurance.

Just received £60 for my car insurance in October and £20 for pet insurance. I've taken Loki's advice and am saving it up until we have a couple of hundred to draw out. Still have another £210 in tracked/pending for life insurance and home insurance. The life insurance was done in Sept, so I really hope it's going to validate. Home insurance was only done last week, so not worried about that at the moment.

Most likely. I get mine paid direct into my bank.

Opera will be fine, but I'd turn off any adblocking/filtering first - otherwise it might block any tracking cookies (which are needed for this to work).

If you get done for Paypal receiving fees, then yes, you'll lose those. There's also a payment limit. I'd do as most people do and avoid the whole Paypal saga in the first place.

You have the option of setting a limit, say £100, so that Quidco will only send you a payment once your received earnings hit that amount. You get absolutely no monetary benefit from it and the only reason I do it is because it helps to save up a decent sum, rather than getting it in dribs and drabs.

Careful with that though - if you enter sufficient details into a price comparison site to allow them to identify you, then using a different browser may not help. There was a big blow-up about that last year when some of the insurers paid the price comparison sites instead of Quidco.

It can vary quite a lot. I'd wait until tomorrow and you'll probably find it's tracked by then. It can then take weeks for it to validate and more weeks to finally pay out. Sometimes you'll not see any actual cash in your pocket for months.

Burble
17-03-2009, 15:03
I think with eBay you only get Quidco when you pay for an item you've bought (so make sure you follow the Quidco link when paying) and you get 40% of what the seller would pay in eBay fees.

Mark
17-03-2009, 18:05

Desmo

They automatically take it from your first set of "earnings". So if you earn £8 on your first one, as it's paid, they'll take £5 and then give you the £3. So basically, they always take their £5 before you even get to see it :)

Greenlizard0

Mark
29-03-2009, 14:47
OK, I think this is what you're asking:

You signed up in March 2008, earned lots, and paid your £5.
It's now March 2009 and your next £5 is due, but you've not earned anything yet.
You do, however, have paid earnings that you've not taken out yet, and want to know how much of that you'll get.
Answer: All of it! The £5 fees are taken when the money is paid into your Quidco account. If the money is already there, you can withdraw it whenever you want.

You can't 'force' a withdrawal.

They pay out at the end of each month. If you've told them where to send the money, and it's more than the minimum payout (0.00 is fine), it'll be out in a few days.

In other news, I used both a promotion code and Quidco when I got my buildings and contents insurance this year - which even without discounts worked out cheaper than last year (and much cheaper than the renewal). I've now received both payments. Re-sult. :)

Leave it for a few weeks and see if it validates at the correct amount. If not, raise an earnings enquiry on it. If it's wrong for you, you can bet it'll be wrong for others too.

PS - this is not an unusual thing to happen. The O2 transaction I just put through will apparently also track at the wrong amount.

Nutcase

So how does this work then?

http://www.ocukroguesgallery.com/feek/temp/percent-20090726-162816.png

Transaction was actually £534 but tracks as this.

http://www.ocukroguesgallery.com/feek/temp/huh-20090726-163049.png

Transaction value is wrong and that's not 8%!

Not quite a without VAT amount either (although close). Hmm.

Mark
26-07-2009, 17:06
I noticed that too, but could be the same problem. Either that or something was excluded (VAT and delivery are the usual culprits but that still doesn't work here).

Feek
26-07-2009, 17:39
It's a holiday so no differing rates, it's just 8% and that's it.

I shall wait a while and see if anything changes then file an enquiry if it doesn't.

Mark
26-07-2009, 17:44
Could be taxes and surcharges affecting the total amount then (particularly if there's a flight involved). Still doesn't account for why the Quidco amount is showing as 6% instead of 8% but hopefully that will fix itself (e.g. if it's a recent increase in the cashback amount then it could track at the old amount and later validate at the new one).

No flying involved so no taxes and surcharges. It's a week in Lytham St. Annes so unless there's a secret Blackpool tax! :D

Don't expect Quidco to be of much help if you put in an enquiry. I had a transaction which didn't track so put in an enquiry which was declined. I opened a ticket giving all the required information and got this response:

Hi Paul,

We are writing to you regarding your Crucial Technology UK rejected enquiry which has been escalated with the relevant network. We have been working hard with the network to retrieve an answer from the merchant. However, they have now confirmed to us that this merchant is unable to reverse the decision made on your original enquiry.

Due to the merchant%u2019s decision, the resolution for this enquiry cannot be changed. In light of this recent development we are no longer offering the escalation facility to members as the merchants are unable to change the original outcome supplied to us.

As part of our development and ongoing commitment to improving the service for our members, we are now working to implement a new procedure to ensure that circumstances like this do not occur in future.

Kind Regards,

Quidco Member Support

I've added emphasis there on the important bit. I asked them to clarify what they meant by that as it wasn't sure if they were not offering the escalation route for Crucial or for all merchants. Turns out it is for all merchants.

I've never had any problems with Crucial via Quidco but I have had similar type responses to some enquiries raised to them. Supply all details under the sun but yet the network says no and that's the end of it.

FYI TopCashBack has like for like 7% on Crucial compared to using QuidCo (http://www.TopCashBack.co.uk/ref/ZicoUK).

Cashback with these systems - whichever one you use - isn't guaranteed. There are several networks and intermediaries involved and any of them can get in the way of a successful payment. Having said that, the vast majority do work, and Quidco do occasionally pick up the foul-ups themselves.

One of mine took nearly a year to be paid, but it did eventually turn up - somehow. Was only a few pence mind. I've had a few transactions declined too.

Burble
27-07-2009, 07:50
I know it's not guaranteed but when I am able to provide them with an order number, customer reference number, email address used for ordering, credit card billing address, delivery address, order value & order contents I don't expect Crucial to reject the enquiry saying that they 'can't track the order.'

It wasn't an insignificant amount of cashback either, something like £85.

Hang on, so they are going to remove the ability to raise a query and if things don't work you just have to lump it?

Must be a mistake but according to Quidco I'm set to get back £27.48 cashback from GAME on a £27.98 spend :D.

Bought 2x 2100 points for £16.99 - £1 discount code and -£5 points = £27.98.

Quidco is currently tracking:
10 Aug 2009 22:46:47 GAME 0.00 0.00 tracked ~ Oct 2009
10 Aug 2009 22:46:47 GAME 32.98 27.48 tracked ~ Oct 2009

Fingers crossed for 4200 points for 50p!!

Damn that's a nice chunk of cashback.

Largest pay out for me was £117.10 and that was only because we got 50% back from a Lloyds TSB home insurance quote through Quidco last year.

I've got a few quid coming from TopCashBack (mostly from Dixons) as I've spent quite a bit buying new laptops and a tumble dryer for everybody else but myself.

They must have had a glut of payments recently at Quidco. I ordered some health insurance in April 2008 and wrote it off a long time back, yet they paid out on it a few days back.

Same day that they paid out for Virgin Media as well. I ordered via their website but cancelled within a few days. Transaction tracked and I thought it would be declined as I cancelled the install. Yeet they paid out £65.00 even though I'm not even a customer :p

How long did it take for your £50 to come through then?

Mark
06-09-2009, 13:57
Have you phoned up Be and suggested that to them? If not, please do so. Chances are they'll offer you a discount. Just watch out if they offer you a 12-month contract too - you don't need that to get a discount.

MarcLister
06-09-2009, 14:10
Ring them up and tell them I hate their new website? I was thinking that telling them I'm moving to O2 would be a hint. ;)

May I ask why you think I should tell them that?

Mark
06-09-2009, 14:12
Because I got £6pm off instantly by saying I wanted to migrate out to O2 as it was cheaper. Didn't have to argue or anything - it was just 'here, have a discount'. Many others have reported the same experience.

MarcLister

am i likely to be able to use both ?

anything I should know re quidco, do I just sign up and then use their link to retailer ?

Mark
28-10-2009, 19:32
Check the terms carefully. For example, if you have to contact the seller to complete the 0% finance, you might lose out. Other than that, there's no reason I can think of why 0% finance should stop cashback.

What you should know re: Quidco? The most important rule with all cashback sites is that you should never assume you'll get the payout. Almost always you will, but sometimes you won't.

Classic example of that was people who had bought stuff from Woolworths. They went bust before the cashback got paid. Ergo, no cashback.

Next most important rule is to clear cookies immediately before starting the transaction and do the entire transaction (starting from the Quidco site) in one go. If you use a personal firewall, make sure it isn't blocking referer headers and/or cookies - both will stop your transaction from tracking.

Not sure :s I'm PAYG at the moment but have been looking into some sort of low contract BB for a couple of weeks now.

All Quidco says is ...

£150 for Pay Monthly contract phone connections (per transaction, not per phone basis)*

Please note that your cashback on pay monthly contracts will be subject to a two-month validation period from connection. No cashback will be paid on upgrades or on cancelled / unsuccessful connections.

Cashback is paid per basket, not per phone.

Cashback is not paid on reconditioned PAYG phones or accessories.

*This offer does not apply to Orange 5 and Orange 10 PAYM 36 Month tariffs.

Ordered and tracked :D

Just got my first £7.25 from Quidco for some late August flights as well, so finally seeing the money. Really hoping the pending queries work out... note to anyone who uses expedia... book all hotels seperately. Quidco can't cope with them all being booked at once even when done from scratch it only records the first one you add.

Now I just have to convince Orange to change the delivery address to work, missed the "signature required" part I think. That or a drive to the center of Coventry Tuesday, always rewardingly terrifying.
