okay, so I know that's a Manchester newspaper and you can't expect much from Manchester folk, but still.. not knowing -5 is warmer than -6?!
I'm done wondering. 15M people having difficulty with basic numeracy makes me :(

Some people have difficulties with learning and are now at a stage they feel embarrassed to ask for help, that is fine and we should in no way blame them. Sheer stupidity is a completely different thing, it isn't the fact she didn't know but the fact she didn't believe them when they told her.
The things that annoys me with this is that Camelot have removed the card. Why? Are we just going to cater for the lowest levels now? Maybe somebody should take these people aside and teach them the answer rather than changing the cards.
It's like places that sell size 24 clothes, it just makes it 'acceptable' to be like that.

I suspect they're removing it not so much to cater for people as to stop the hundreds of stupid people that keep phoning them. I'd probably want to avoid that situation, too.

Exactly. The same goes for places that sell pies and ice cream and beer, it just makes it acceptable to eat unhealthy food. These places should be shut down or forced to sell only salad or lean chicken and mineral water.
To hell with freedom of choice.

Maybe they should remarket them as Maths Mini-bites?
Or give their phone number as the result of a calculation?
Arguably it's probably more to do with the state of education several years ago than the state of education today!
That is pretty comically bad though ;D
Ah, but is today any better/worse?

The mind boggles. Although if that is true about looking for a number rather than a temperature, it's surely the wording on the card that's at fault too.Unfortunately, whether the subject is temperature or anything else, -6 is a higher number than -8, no matter the circumstance :p
