Like you would know! :p
Had a bit of a nightmare day at the house yesterday. The plasterer is in today and we needed to get the electrics in and sorted so he could make good around them. So I set to work chasing down the walls and cutting holes for the sockets. A combination of a whinging neighbour, no food to eat and me not really knowing what I'm doing put me in a bit of a bad mood ;D
There's brick dust everywhere and holes twice the size they need to be, lol.
Still, I got the bulk of it done and only have to do some wiring tonight so not a problem.
As said, plasterer is starting today so this week is where the place starts to take a turn for the better and actually starts looking like a home again :)
what was up with the neighbour? they want you to hammer quietly or somethin?

Bad Jamie! BAD Jamie!

Thats what Sundays are for! DIY and going to the tip!

To be fair.....she's a ****ing ****.
We gave them two weeks notice before ANY work took place. This is now two weeks on from the start of work so that's a months notice to this point. We understand that the noise carries right through the house and that she's at home, but the work has to be done at some time and that will be during the day. They renovated their house just before I moved in so she knows what it's like and she's even said so herself. She just likes to moan. Even today she's been in asking the plasterer if he can be quiet. Yes he can....if you want to pay him for an hour or two to sit on his arse. But we're paying the bill so he'll work through thanks very much miss whingebag.
She also can't just moan about the current noise. She always has to bring something up that happened a week or so ago just to add another little whinge in.
Even though they're moving in a week or two's time, I'm trying to keep things polite and civil just in case anything on their moving house falls through. We'll be stuck with waring neighbours.
Claire, I hope you die in the face.

I am ready to actually smack her in the face
Do it.
Tell her Von said that she is a dour wench in need of a good hard shafting by consent.
Moaning/ bad neighbours are the worst thing ever. We were a bit worried what they'd think when we slapped 3 MR2s outside our house but the old boy who shares the drive was fine. Phew!
Well thankfully they're moving out soon. Just wish she could keep her trap shut until then.
Sounds like the neighbour is being a nightmare. We had a few of those in London when we lived in a flat before the kids. The bloke downstairs followed Cliff out on his way to work one day and had a go at him about some crap and Cliff told him that if he didn't f*ck off out of his face that he'd sit him on his arse lol. That was the last we heard of him ;)
I read that as sparkly. Thought Daz was on his way over ;D
Awww poor Daz ;D
Well, our neighbour problem is now gone :D
The nutcase moved out and our new neighbour, Ray, has moved in he seems like a nice chap. Mid 40's and living on his own, he's an ex-Londoner so talks straight and you know that if there's a problem he'll let you know. He's already been into ours to have a look around at the work we're doing and is happy for us to make noise to get the job done.
The other side that is for rent also has new people in. I was talking to a mother and daughter outside about the house when Sinead came out and spoke to the daughter who worked with her at Target. So we know they should be OK too :D
Got some more pics over the weekend and last night so I'll upload some later on :)

Having seen it myself.. It all looks very impressive :)
Sounds like a good set of neighbours hopefully :)
OK, so here's a little update :)
As you can see, a new ceiling has been tacked on and is ready to skim
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02271.jpg
And now, the plastering is complete (although these photos are from before completion)

We've had to lay down a hardboard floor to put our Karndean flooring onto, so this was done on the bank holiday weekend.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02307.jpg
And here's the kitchen ceiling with some paint on it :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02313.jpg
We did some more painting last night. One more coat on the kitchen ceiling and then the first coats on the front room ceilings. We'll be donning our rollers again tonight.
Coming along nicely guys :)
Looking great! Kids are back at school next week so if you need any painting doing.....:)
Well Sinead has Monday off so if you fancy some painting ;)
ah. Kids arent back till Tuesday :( Have a chat about it at the weekend :)
Hehehe, was only kidding. We're piling into the painting again tonight, Sunday and Monday so we should be fine.
It's coming on :D When will you be ready to move back in?
Oh and what's happening with the RSJ? Having it plastered over? Ours are plastered.
Need to post an update in our thread. Worked on it from Friday to Tuesday and we're having a few days off before the onslaught continues. Shouldn't be long before we can stick up the lining paper :)
Yep, RSJ has been plastered in. You can see it in the 4th pic but I reckon we'll get some better pics tonight :)
As for moving back in, I reckon we'll be another couple of weeks yet. We've got the floor being put in next Tuesday/Wednesday and then hopefully take delivery of the stairs and kitchen next Friday. If my mate can get cracking on with them then we're all set to move back in :D
Just need to wait for the sofa and TV then ;D

What about a batpole from upstairs to the downstairs ?
A little update from last night after another couple of hours painting.
So, here's a, eerrrr, kitchen ceiling (exciting eh?)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02322.jpg
Here's the back wall with a first quick washover coat. The ceiling here is now finished
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02321.jpg
Here's the front of the room. Again with a quick washover on the walls but the ceiling done.
You can see the RSJ is nicely done too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02319.jpg
We're still waiting for a lot of the walls to finish drying before we can get cracking on them
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02316.jpg
Hopefully after our weekend away at Chessington we'll come home to dry walls :D
That's looking fantastic guys! I bet you can't wait for it to be finished. You're going to have a lovely home

We're both REALLY pleased with the way this floor is looking. Perfect choice for what we wanted :D
They run out of planks so still need to finish off one side today.
Looks fab! Nicely done guys!
That is a lovely floor... :D
unfortunatly I personally dont think I get on with hard floors - we had one in the flat last year and it needed constant dusting. Too much work to keep it looking nice for me ;)
We did decide a suction device mounted in all skirting boards would be ideal for keeping on top of it however! ;)
That floor looks cracking, I was thinking of putting a floor down in our dining room. I gather you have concrete floors as well. Looking back now its amazing the change that has gone on in your place.
I will ask again nearer the time but I'm shamelessly going to ask for any numbers of tradesmen you've got.
Need to get numbers for:-
Windows and doors people, oh and soffetts/guttering
Plumber
Sparky (got from Paul)
Builder & someone who can re-felt flat roofs (garage roof has gone).
I think its better to get numbers of people that have been good rather than trying to delve into the yellow pages cold :)
I would offer to do the leccy, but I haven't got the ticket for it, even though I'm more than qualified and have experience in it :( It sucks tbh.
When you make it down sometime Will - we may let you lose on our electrics ;)

Best looking one I've seen :) Good choice guys
DIY SOS
We came across our first slight boo boo last night :/
My mate Steve came over to fit the kitchen units and all was going well. After he left we took a look at the plug sockets and realised they are in really **** places ;D
In an empty room you really don't notice it but now the units are in, we need to move them a bit and maybe add one or two more. I'm a bit pee'd off really as I think we've done so well considering the amount we've had done and this slight oversight has cocked it up a bit.
I've come up with an emergency plan to get some more sockets sorted but we're against the clock with the worktop being fitted and I need to call in the help of my sparky mate.
Wish us luck :D
Oh, and look what turned up at Sineads work this morning....

That floor is amazing guys, the house looks like it is going to be spectacular when it is finished. :)
It's almost upon us....we're moving back in :D
My mate Steve, who's been a great help recently whilst being knackered and overworked, is fitting the stairs this Saturday. Once they're in we can move back home...WOOT!!!!!
We can pop a few things in the kitchen to get by and we can move our furniture back downstairs once I've got the blinds up on the windows for some privacy. Then hang the TV on the wall and relax in our comfy garden deckchairs until the sofa turns up ;D

I'm green with envy, it's going to be so fantastic!
Once we're sorted you can bring the Pebbles clan over one night for some food and Wii :D

No ya don't ;)
They're Karndean :D ( vinyl that is laid and looks like tiles with little strips inbetween that look like grout )
This stuff is amazing, we have it in our bathroom, lounge and now the kitchen, it comes with a 15 year guarantee and even has the texture of what it's replicating :)
Cor. That's one sexy floor.

I'm not on comission I promise, just seriously impressed with this stuff... it's not stupidly expensive either, the lounge and kitchen cost us £1500 fitted.

Wohooo we have stairs !!!! .. I think I'll kinda miss the ladder though :/
Really starting to take shape now and if we can get the blinds up later on we'll sleep here tonight .. IN OUR OWN BED YIPEEEE !! :D
Some Pics :-
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02498.jpg
We're going to leave the stairs as open as possible but boxing in underneath at the lowest part, just enough to create a cupboard tall enough for the hoooooover and then leave the rest open.
Plasterer will be coming back to plyboard/skim the underside which we will then paint the same colour as the walls.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02499.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02501.jpg
We're also going to stain the wood to match in with the floor better :
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/DSC02503.jpg
We'll be getting a nice seagrass/hessian carpet runner with stair rods in a nice light colour so that the stairs don't look too dark or are too noisy when clomping up and down.
It's really starting to feel like home now :)

Looking very nice - would be interested to see them finished as you described, as my imagination sucks!
Oooh those stairs look much safer than your old ones :D

We want nice solid Oak furniture but thought we would have to get it bit by bit as it's not cheap, we also thought we might struggle a little to get the whole lot in one range.
So we were on our way to Colchester and I saw a sign saying Pine and Oak furniture sale .. 25% off !
We popped and had a look and they had the perfect range and everything we wanted !! .. So we ordered up :
1 TV unit
1 Sideboard
1 Lamp Table
1 Extending Dining Table
All for just under a grand ! ... Soooo chuffed !
Hopefully it will be delivered next week so some of you can see but we'll post pics once it's all in situ
*is excited we are finally getting this place looking like a proper home* :)
We were going to do the last leg of our paint-a-thon but after the clearing up and stuff we were both hungry, tired and a little fedup so we left it at that and we're having a nice relaxing evening

Haven't been able to keep up with this for a while but I can't believe how much you guys have got done! It looks fantastic! :D
It's sooooo comfy :D
Good level of softness so it's comfy enough, but you also don't fall back and sink into it, which I don't like. And the fact it's a full size bed with mattress is also a good bonus for when you lucky people come to visit :D
Should be fitting the dishwasher, oven and hanging the TV tonight :D
Looks lovely!
I'm also loving the find the Desmo game!
Sod Where's Wally....more like Where is the Wally :D
Well, it went a bit ****e last night :/
Tried to mount the TV on the wall and the mount I have doesn't allow us to get the correct angle so I need to get that replaced.
Then tried to fit the oven but discovered it comes on legs so we need to cut out the bottom of the oven housing unit and I didn't have a jigsaw to hand.
Then we tried to fit the dishwasher...the water connection pipe is too short.
;D
So we cleared up, sat down on the comfy new sofa and surfed the net. At least I could get the PC working on the TV properly. 40" Boat Drinks goodness :D

We've had quite a productive day today.
Over the weekend our mate Steve finished off the kitchen cabinets \o/
The only slight problem we have is where the old outside bog was there was a water pipe to feed the cistern. The plumber capped it off about a metre high which we thought would be ok because it would be behind the cabinets.
As it happens the end of the dishwasher JUST catches it :/ so our dishwasher is a wee bit wonky until we can get our plumber out !
But anyway we got all our dishes and food back up from the shed and we now have a working kitchen again, apart from the oven which should hopefully be fitted soon - Steve couldn't carry it on his own and didn't want to drag it on our floor !
Kitchen pics first, lounge updated next post !

It's a bloody nice oven though (says he that hardly ever uses an oven) and it'll be well worth it once it's in place :)
Oooh it's looking great :D
Your kitchen looks absolutely fab. I always worry that dark units will make a small kitchen look smaller, but they don't at all in that one. I guess it's a good balance of light walls/floor and the window. Looks really good!
That table is gorgeous too. Perfect size for the room and a huge bonus that you can open it out.
Really worth all the wait wasn't it. I know you've got lots more little things to do, but compared to when I saw it at last year's Essex meet, it's just a completely different downstairs.
Piggymon
28-05-2007, 21:43
Awww thanks girlies :)
I really wanted the dark wood kitchen but I was scared of it shrinking the room but I really think we've pulled it off. The worktop has played a big part in that .. I bloody love my worktop :D
You're right Sinead, a wooden worktop (which I think was you original plan?) might have made it look smaller. The very light worktop just draws it out again.
Piggymon
29-05-2007, 08:16
We were going to get a white shaker kitchen with a solid wood worktop. Bloody glad we didn't because this one is sooooo much nicer :)

Mahoosive patio at the house end, then a nice new lawn ( which we hope to lay in the next few weeks ) then some hard stand outside the shed.
We're leaving the plants up to Jamie's Mummy ;D
We've been busy :D
I'll say. Nice work there. :)
plants
 oh crap you just reminded me! Will go and water mine.
Good work on clearing that lot. My technique has been to just hack everything back down to ground level and see what survives. Titchmarsh be damned. Seems to be working at the moment
Here's a rough breakdown of what we want...
At the house end we'll have a patio area. Garden is 13ft wide and we'll probably go 13ft long on the patio so will have plenty of space for table and chairs along with a BBQ and some other chairs.
Then on to the lawn, approx 48ft long. Pretty straight forward here, maybe adding some plants further down. Stuff that we don't need to tend to too much and maybe a nice bench sitting along one side. We also want a garden swing thing so that might end up at the bottom of the garden facing back towards the house.
At the very bottom we'll have some overlapping off-set fence panels to hide the shed. These will be around 10ft in front of the shed where we will have some hard standing so I can work on the bike etc.

We're not having the fences any more :D
We've had a change of plan. The shed we have is knackered anyway and isn't 100% waterproof anymore, so we're going to replace it, hopefully with a slightly bigger and more summer house looking type thing. Then add another large patio area in front of that and it'll look really nice at the other end of the garden. It'll be a feature instead of something we want to hide behind some panels.

Just off to B&Q now to get ourselves a sprinkler to keep the lawn nice and fresh for a few weeks. Gotta take care of it you know :D
Looks brill :D I take it you're going to have a climbing frame on there for Desmo to swing from ;)

Nooo... no playing on the grass ! lol
I think we're gonna be grass nazis :o
I'm sure Jamie can come up with a sign in short order...
"PLEASE KEEP OFF THE GRASS"
Or, better yet, kidnap Feek, obtain a shotgun or other suitable implement, station at appropriate location.
;D

Today we have mostly been dismantling and moving wardrobes in preperation for our wall building tomorrow !
We're partitioning the bedroom off ( currently the bathroom comes off the 2nd bedroom ).
We'll eventually knock the wall by the stairs down so we create a proper landing but I want to get the bedroom sorted before Konrad and the 2 terrors come over so they can have their own bedroom :D
It won't be plastered, will just be plasterboard and a door but it's better than nuffink !
Our bedroom doesn't seem as small as I thought it would with the 2 double wardrobes in there so me is pleased :)

You have both done a loads of work to your house, and it all looks amazing! You should be very proud:D
Well we've finished for the day :D
Got the main framework up for the wall and the door is hanging sweet as a nut. Just need to get some plasterboard on the walls and it'll be a proper room. Can't do that for couple of weeks though as next weekend we're out for somebody's birthday ;)
So, here is today's work :)

Also need ot move the light switch along in the loft and also shift the main light across into the centre of the room but shouldn't take me long :)
It's actually not a bad little sized room overall, plenty enough for what we need. The landing area down to the bathroom is also a decent size too so won't feel too pokey.
Wow, that looks really good! A wise decision too as it'll add lots of value onto the house when you eventually sell it. Is it big enough for a double bed? Wouldn't have thought so, but it was full of wardrobes last time I was there, so it's hard to gauge just how big the room is.

You could fit a double bed in there but nothing else lol
You could easily fit a single bed and a wardrobe in there though.
We'll be using it as the guest room when people stay, we have the sofabed downstairs but there's no privcy for those sleeping there, we now have a mahoosive double layer airbed for when we have guests .. and guess what?
We're finally getting a door on the bathroom ! \o/
The doorways are such funny sizes though we're going to have to get it custom made :/
Also we're not going to knock the wall by the stairs down, I thought we would have to but the corridor isn't anywhere near as pokey as I thought it would be, once the old bedroom door & frame are ripped out it will feel less like a doorway.
Been thinking of cutting like a hatch thing in the wall, fill it with some shelves and a few bits to get some light on the stairs and in the corridor :)
My friend's house has a corridor like that, and they have some little windows at the top of the wall. Might look nice if you put some glass bricks along the top of the wall just to let the light in, but I'm not sure how expensive that'd be or whether it's your "thing" :)

There's a glass lintel over the door in my bedroom...
It's a right bugger if someone *glares at Paul* leaves the light on in the hall all smegging night....
The plasterboard is up :D
