Coooo! So whats the plan? Are you going to take the other wall out?
Piggymon
03-12-2007, 08:20
We were going to but the corridor isn't anywhere near as pokey as I thought it would be so I'm now thinking some sort of posh hole in the wall to let the light through.
Taking that wall down will be a bloody messy job and I'm not sure it's worth it :/
Having now seen this in person all I can say is "WOW". You both really have a lovely house. In fact it's perfect and exactly the sort of thing I'm looking forward to sorting myself out in about a million years time! I'm slightly envious (but in a good way). It really is lovely - it's clear to see why you are both so proud of it.

It does look really good, especially the wood floor. I'll have to put up some pics of my dining room and ask for inspiration as i'm running low in that room.
Will, pray and pray more that you never have to get rid of woodchip wallpaper. It takes ages to get off and is just general hell.
Pigmo's place does look fab. SUCH a difference from when we visited you for Essex 2006. That's not that long ago either!!!
Will, pray and pray more that you never have to get rid of woodchip wallpaper. It takes ages to get off and is just general hell.
Here here!!!! The woodchip that I stripped in my bedroom when I was 14 was an absolute breeze compared to the woodchip I was taking off the day Will came to see us (in the summer sometime). It literally came off in 1cm squares and I was ready to either cry or kill someone. Fortunately, all woodchip has now been banished from our house... except for some on the bedroon ceiling, which is staying until a time when we might want to re-plaster it (i.e. never) :D
It's hard sometimes when you can't see a light at the end of the tunnel. We're a bit like that at the moment with the plaster in the lounge. Buuuut, I'm going to do some bits just to brighten it up that we can remove when we can afford to get the walls done. Until then, we'll just have to live with it. It WILL be gorgeous when we're finally done though :)
I'm surprised how much space there is in the new corridor...good job guys!!!
I think you should definately put a shelf in the wall btw :p - to Jamie

Well, we've not had an update for quite a while but here's our latest addition to downstairs...

We've been needing some nice chairs for the table since we got it and found some yesterday :)
Picked them up this morning and they fit in just right. We've only had 4 chairs before so it make it awkward if we wnat to invite people over, but now we have these four nice chairs and have also got the older ones as extras if we need them.

Be Honest, Pigmo chose them didn't she ;D
No worrys I have a fold away chair i use to Sun myself in the yard with I'll sling that in the jeep so i have summit to sit on i won't ruin :p
Coooooooooooool!! They fit in a treat!
Nice!
PS - Just checking you've added some felt pads to the end of the legs - wouldn't want that lovely flooring getting scratched. :)
Haven't done that yet Mark but we were going to. Just need to pop out and buy some :)
Well, here's a long overdue update :p
We're going to be starting on the patio soon and so went in search of some paving slabs and stuff to see what we liked. Ended up in Wyevale and saw a lovely garden patio set with a round table, 6 chairs, lazy susan and parasole. It was £1k in the shop but suits just what we need. Anyway, came home and started looking for more stuff online when we ended up on the Wyevale website where they had 20% off :D
Did a little promo code search and got another £40 off too ;D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/patioset.jpg
Here it is on the site... http://www.wyevale.co.uk/Rimini+6+seater+teak+set+150cm/0920017235,default,pd.html
All we need to do now is get a patio to put it on :D
we's need a patio table :(

we's need a patio table :(Got £760? :p Looks like you can get the above for 760 if my maths is right. Which is probably isn't. :D
We'd not normally have the money sitting around either. We've still got our garden budget money left over from our last remortgage. It's paying for the set, patio area and super huge shed :)
Having such great weather today along with the garlic muncher paying a visit, we decided we'd set the patio stuff on the lawn as we couldn't wait for the patio to be ready :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/P1010837.jpg
And then old Frenchy fancied a kip after dinner :D

I helped build that!!! \o/  :D
Nicely mowed lawn too ;)
House is looking b-e-a-utiful. Loved my room - make sure I get it next time! ;)

Good addition but you should have a little BD flag on top of your Mountain :)
Was outside last night preparing the back wall of the house for painting. Used a PVA and water mix to seal it first, then going to put on the first coat of paint tonight (assuming the weather plays nice) :)
Also been doing lots of sorting out for the patio. Got my pattern plan made up and had a friend over last night who went through everything I need to do so we can start on that soon. Also just checked on the B&Q website and they've got a May discount on the slabs we want so will need to get those ordered soon. Could save us over £100 :D

Still got a fair bit to do as I need to finish off this wall and do the side wall. Then maybe go back for a second coat. Makes a big difference though :D

We've actually hacked ours right back to bush up - and it's working! Hoorah! :)

Finshed off painting the house last weekend and this weekend we have dug out the soil and shoved some ballast down ready for us to lay the patio.

Hopefully getting 1 tonne of cement, 3 tonnes of sand and our lovely slabs delivered next week so we can start laying the patio .. wooootage !
Still have to dig out by the side of the house, we'll do that tomorrow :)
Really like the colour of the house Piggy, that is a mahoosive improvement.
That is going to be one mother of a patio too  Perfect for BBQs and Pigmo meets :D :p

Really brightens it up doesn't it ? :)
Don't you worry, we'll have a BD BBQ
Was my hint big enough then???
Yeah it does brighten it up and it's the perfect colour. I wanted something like that for ours, but the one we picked ended up being a bit too white. Buggered if we're going to sodding repaint it though :p
Piggymon
05-07-2008, 20:10
No need to hint - I'd been thinking about it anyway ;D :D
I'm a sod for tester pots so I even tester potted the outside lol ! Glad I did because the one I thought I was going to like the best was too yellowy :/
Painting the house is a sod of a job so I don't blame you

Wooowwww! I love what you have done to the front of the house, looks AWESOME! Painting the house makes a big difference, my mom had it done on the front of hers, and it makes it look like a different house:D Was shocked at the difference.

The garden is so out of square, much like the rest of the house, that it's hard to get any king of straight fit. The slabs are also slightly different sizes so none of the gaps are really the same, despite trying to keep them as even as possible. Still, seeing as it's my first go at anything like this, I'm happy so far :D
Oh they look lovely! Really like the style of slab you've chosen too. You're doing a great job :)
Piggymon
12-07-2008, 20:21
I went from loving them to hating them then loving them again then hating them again and now I've finally decided I love them ;D
Can't wait till it's all finished and we can really start to enjoy the garden.... if it ever stops raining
The garden is so out of square, much like the rest of the house, that it's hard to get any king of straight fit.
Tell me about it..... if I lined up all the kitchen units straight from against one corner they'd end up a third of the way across the room by the time they got to the other end :D
Nice job!
Wonky everything makes every job that much harder :/
Still, I'm sitting here with some nice cement burnt fingers and hands and my knees are weeping because I started the day in shorts and was kneeling down in the sand/cement mix. Bloomin hurts, lol.
Oh they look lovely! Really like the style of slab you've chosen too. You're doing a great job :)
Thanks :D
The slabs look a lot neater in the pic than they do in reality. They're a proper cut slab so the edges are very rough and the top, although fairly smooth, has a nice texture to it as well :) The colours also vary slightly from slab to slab.
Looking good :) Although bloody hard work!
WOWEE! Blooming heck you've laid a lot in a short period of time! *fnar* ;)
Looking great! I wouldn't worry too much about gap sizes - although picky did what you did and used bits of wood to keep it even the buggers still went slightly squeewy due to their shape! Do you have the problem of weird topped slabs too (like they slant a bit so you have to lay them wonky to make the straight?) That... was annoying as hell!
Keep up the good work people :D
Who wants to see my skanky knees? ;D
They're not looking too pretty right now so I've linked to them rather than posting the pics.
This is why I can't lay any more slabs today, I can barely bend them :/

...and you can see that it the final part to finish off. Just need to tidy up a little and finish grouting.
And here's the main patio area...

So, not much work to do now and all in all I'm pretty happy. It's probably not as perfect as Id have liked it but for a first go and a big area, I'm happy :)
Good job guys - looks lovely! :D
Have you popped the BBQ's cherry yet?! ;)

Looks lovely, those stones are really going to finish it off nicely as well. Not suprised with you two though, always pick lovely things :)
Bloomin' 'eck I feel knackered today :/
Still, the main work is done now :D Just need to grout the pathway and drop in the edging stones so no more hard graft up this end of the garden.....just got to finish off the mess at the bottom now :(
Looks fab. I really like those little white stones too.
Lovely stones!! We need to get them sorted too... though I think we're going to go with granite chippings.
Knees are A OK :D
Still got some small cement burns on my fingertips though :(

is cement hot?
Nope, but it's full of chemicals that burn over time :)
Looks great, and those stones will just finish it off perfectly.
Thanks for all the comments guys :)
Well we're pretty much there now. Just three more bags of stones to buy and put in to place. So, here's the final article :D

There are a few more labels to scrub off and then a general wash down once the grouting is fully set.
We're really pleased with how it's turned out. It's not perfect but for my first patio, I'm pretty chuffed :D
Wow that looks really posh - well done good job guys! :D
Where you get the furniture from?

Set was from Wyvale. Managed to grab a 25% discount too :D

Here's a teeny weeny update. We wanted to get rid of the wardrobe in the spare room that Sinead kept clothes in, so we got a chest of draws for the main bedroom. Only it needed to go in the corner where the TV sat on a small table.
Here's an old before shot...

But here we are, one chest of draws and a hanging TV later...

I think it is good to see two young people doing something like this together. :) I cant wait to hear piggy is pregnant. I'm sure you guys will make good parents.:)

Anyway, on to operation Garden Bottom :D
Bottom of the garden has always had an old shed that's been full of crap, leaking and generally looking very tatty....but not any more :)
The old shed coming down...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/P1020858.jpg
And it's gone...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/P1020865.jpg
Followed by railway sleepers for a new base...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/P1020864.jpg
That's EIGHT frickin' railway sleepers moved from the front of the house to the bottom of the garden...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/P1020869.jpg
They get bloody heavy after the first two ;D
So, that's a base covering 8' wide and 20' deep for our new summerhouse :D
It's being fitted on Wednesday morning and will give us plenty of space for motorbike, pushbikes, punchbags and garden stuff as well as some general storage.
Ooooo I think I can see 'The Lane™'
O_o
BB x
Pfft, when I was fit and healthy (not this century ;D) used to drag around a lot more than 8 railway sleepers in a day.
Damn you doner kebabs and pizzas :o
Looking good! Wish i could have helped! Looks like my sort of manual labour! :D
Am I going nuts or is that 10 sleepers I see not eight?!
Tis gonna be huuuuuuuuuuuuuge!
Picky wants a shed now (another, may I add). Apparently if I get a cycle bike then we need a shed for it. *rollseyes*

I know we're both blonde, but the girl does have a point!
I fink I pointed it out :p
Also, moving big planks around is tough I should imagine - but I would REALLY have hated digging them in and getting them level... grrrr . Well done! :)
I hope you guys intend to get some electrics up there with a fridge etc...;)

Maybe there were 2 already at that end of the garden?
You're right, there were 10 in total :( I'm too knackered to count :p
We did 8 on Saturday and another 2 on Sunday.
It's going up
And it looks great so far :D

Overall, I'm really pleased :D
The floor has a couple of "bouncy" bits but that's not their fault. They've done the best they can with the base I provided. The floor will settle and once there's a few things in there it will be held flat. Just need to treat the wood now and then finish off the surrounding area :)
Still got a nice amount of room down the outside too to get stuff in and out of the gate that we'll put in.
That's AWESOME guys! You must be dead chuffed! Are you going to get a cable run down there for evening entertainment and comfort?
What's on the interior walls? It looks like some kind of fabric, for insulation or draught reduction?
I WANT ONE TOOO, but need a bigger garden - and certainly don't envy you with the job of treating it, having spent two days painting our little breeze block rendered shed ;))
Yeah, will be getting it wired up :)
But for evening entertainment? Nah, it's just going to be a posh shed ;D

Get a ramp in front of the shed for some over the top exiting the shed with the bikes. ;D

Will you be giving guided tours of your erection at the weekend, Desmo?
You've never wanted payment before.
I've washed it this time.

Yer missus would kick my butt! ;D
Yours is one of only a few that she could actually reach too! :p
your renovations put mine to shame
mine usually consists of
1 get decorator in
2 order furniture
3 let missus do finishing touches
4 moan she has spent too much
:p
Woah, that's one hell of a 'just a shed' Looks great!! I'm afraid I couldn't fill it with ****e though. I'd want to turn it into an extra room to get away from Leon in :p
It's still going to be quite tight bringing the bike in down the side no?
Looks fab though - your bike will be happy and love it's new home! :D
Holy thread resurection
Well we have been busy :D Whilst we got the summerhouse put up, the bottom of the garden was still a bit of a tip with just loads of earth down there so we decided to get to work on it whilst trying not to spend too much money.
We started by getting our two remaining sleepers (left over from the summerhouse base) to use as edging to the lawn. Had to cut one in half which was a fair task but got there in the end. Grabbed some of the underlay stuff (whatever it's called) from my mum and got that laid down...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/14b4d197.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/8a05c2bb.jpg
Once that was down our grand total spend came to £88 getting this gravel in...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Pigmo%20Pad/f74da2f0.jpg
And then on to today, where we started to paint some old garden furniture to sit on the gravel. I also grabbed some spare slabs from our patio and made a path to the summerhouse. Have repainted the main patio and chair arms as well...

All that's left to do down there now is a get a gate out on to the lane and finish that pathway. Also need to bring the lawn back to life.....somehow.

Looking good, I love the little pathway. :)
Lawn - lots and lots of watering & lawn feed. Mine all died off last year. You need to water the damn thing every day, especially with it being quite a young lawn.
Looks great guys :) We've just bought a load of those chippings for our shed base. They look rather nice!

It's typical how grass will grow like no tomorrow and look really healthy in a field in the middle of nowhere, or in the middle of the A2 - but the second you put it anywhere near a garden it just shouts out for attention and TLC ;D
Garden is looking really nice! :) Loving the paint job.
In the middle of the A2 probably gets tended. I've seen the council doing it on the verges on a main road around here. Amazing the angles they can deal with. :)
Looks very nice. :)
As for the lawn, you'd certainly have to water like crazy in this weather. Most of the grass around here has gone yellow.

Looks awesome guys. Once you get the lawn spruced up a bit, that's going to look fabluss. Big difference from the last time I was there - will have to engineer another visit to see the awesomeness for myself.
Don't do a gate to The Lane, the crazies will get in!!
Looking stupendous :)
Looks outstanding there guys! Tres impressed! :D
