Anyone not happy, phone retentions, O2 just made me a kickass deal thanks to 'loyalty' when I said I was thinking of changing to Orange. Now when I called a couple months back asking for advice on my calling plan they offered me 600 mins, 500 texts, and a K850 for £40/month, however I did some looking around other networks (which did have better offers) and when I came back and asked for my PAC code...

K850
600 mins
1000 texts
Free calls Sat/Sun/Mon
ITS
Insurance
£30/mnth inc VAT

Happy Eddy now :D
I didn't think they'd go that far out of their way to keep customers mind, although you could easily argue it doesn't cost them much, if anything.

Seems a common story these days. I did the same back in june. Find a good deal on another network that meets your requirements and know your facts (because it's damn certain that if you don't, they'll catch you out), then go seek out retentions. :)

Same deal I got :D:D:D

shame it's not the deals I got from O2 a few years ago, they had all their power pulled when they switched hands.

Instead of more mins/texts i went for cheaper this year, as you say it costs the nothing to add a few more texts mins to your bundle, but to lower your bill is sometimes more of a challenge.

For the same Flext20 tarriff, instead of paying £20 per month for my £34 worth of allowance (the thing i like most about flext) i now pay £5 per month! :D I managed 25% off then another £10 off, and its applicable to any of the tarriffs which i can move up and down throught my next 18 months if need be :D:D:D

My whole 18 month contract will cost me £90 and from that i will get £612's worth of allowance!

:shocked::shocked:

Didn't know they were getting that desperate. That would be an ideal contract for me next time. :)

Tbh they might have looked at my last few bills though, and not engaged their brain at retentions. Lost my phone on holiday and had a £100 bill run up on my part... As well as a few hefty bills while i was working over a year ago. But now im a stingy student this will do me great :D

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Orange Retentions want to stick me on an 18 month contract give me 500mins/ 250Txts/ 5MB for £30 per month on an 18 month contract and I pay £49.99 for the new Touch Dual or £189.99 for a TYTNII

Not a horrible deal but what sticks in my throat is the 18 months contract, I hate being held to 18 months as a year seems to pretty much be a life cycle in mobile handsets.

Looks like the T-mob deals are pretty much on a par but limited to 12 months, I'm not sure what to do :(

I like Orange but I don't like 18 month contracts, T- Mob don't have the Touch Dual though

That's the deal that I got, which is pretty good for me and I didn't mind the 18 month contract thing as I got a free W880i with the package (*wubs his w880i*) and most SE phones I've had have lasted well over a year before going kaputt (T610i lasted for about 20 months before the nonce I passed it on to managed to lose it in a club at NYE... K750i was working great for my brother until Prague when he managed to spill water over it and it went screwy... that was 28 months old)...

If something does go remarkably wrong with the handset and I can't get it fixed then I have my M600, which is still in perfect working order, and if necessary there's an old (brand new never used) Nokia kicking around here somewhere :)

The 18 month thing did nag at me but then when I had my D600 it was a 12 month thing but I didn't want to change it for ages. Hell I still didn't 'need' to change it, I thought I may as well after 20 months :p

In the end I'd be pretty miffed if a phone didn't last me over 18 months.

I can understand that, the Nokia phones seem to take a quite a battering whilst the smartphones are less hardy my m3100 looks pretty scarred now :(

I'm torn between the Touch Dual and the TYTNII, whats holding me back off the touch is that despite the slide it doesn't have a full keyboard but is a much smaller, cheaper and trendier package, and I did have the sat nav Bluetooth unit in the car. Of course I could make a total switch and get something like the N95, hmmmmmmm

MB N95 8gb or N82 are superb phones out now, i used to be a HTC fan, but the symbian phones are just generally better phones as phones, but very capable when it comes to doing any work of a PDA nature. All theyre lacking is a touchscreen which i have been totally fine without now :) Plus the new touch s60's coming out next year look set to be very interesting!

I have orange care so if my phone dies (which it has done in the past so it's paid its worth already) they replace it.

I got that deal too.

But I pay somewhat less than £30 for it :)

Yes it bloody did and very reassuring it was too

Right I've found the deal for me, I stay with orange and get 400min/ 100txts/ 30MB of data for £28 and get a new handset for £99 and its not any of the handsets I mentioned but if I don't like it can send it back and get a Touch Dual instead for a £50 refund :D

Anyone want to guess what I went for?

Nokia E65?

LeperousDust
20-11-2007, 14:20
I'd say 6120c but it can't be because theyre horredously cheap. Maybe the 6110 navigtor? As that has the GPS you wanted. This is assuming its symbian.
Dym Nokia E65 would be a good guess but again thats too expensive for that surely? You wouldn't be paying £99 for the handset... I'm actually pretty lost tbh :p
It's obviously something pretty darn new possibly isn't symbian (n95 8gb has been mentioned right?) and i'm out of touch with the million names of the new WM6 phones!

Dymetrie
20-11-2007, 14:23
I thought I made that handset up :D

Why would I know what things cost? I have a free £15 :p

Matblack
20-11-2007, 14:33
Its not Symbian or WM :D

It is new and its probably not something you would expect me to go for, being a geek and normally wanting some thing I can customise. But I have realised that I just don't use the majority of the functions of the Smartphones and they are too bulky to carry easily. Better to have a nice slim phone that does what it does well and keep th m3100 in the car without a sim to use with Tom Tom and/ or buy a Tom Tom unit with traffic etc for £150.

Ohh, I hope it's better than bloody LG Chocolates :p

the quality is supposed to be a lot better.

Its a massive departure from what I've have for the last 4 years as it is almost entirely non customise-able but I realise that I've been carrying around phone 90% of the functions of which I just don't use. What I need is good web browsing and it would be nice to have a good camera which I can carry around easily and looks stylish :)

If I don't like it, its going back and I'll get a Touch Dual, if that had had a half decent camera I probably would have gone for that originally anyway.

Yeah the OS on that is strange, its built on the back of something strange and programed in flash if my memory serves me right. Seems nice, but i just love the versatility of smartphones :p Apart from when i went made and bought the bloody HTC universal, my smartphone history has been very pocketable - its the first thing i look for!

For small brilliance: 6120 classic, or E51 both superb and the smallest smartphones on the market.

Hope the touch does you well, i just know it would do my head in :D Looks very nice though!

Hmmmmmmmmmm, thats all I have to say about the Viewty.

My opinion my be shadowed by the use of Windows Mobile units for so long but this phone seems a bit, well, clunky and not very satisfying. That said I can see it being very good for someone who wants a good camera phone but the email isn't very good and the internet browseing is a bit shakey and these are things that bother me most. I'll see how it syncroises with Outlook tonight but if that sucks then its going back and I'll getting a Touch Dual.

My O2 contract ran out this month. I was charged £35 this monh for 500mins/500 texts, for which I was paying £19.50.

I called them today to see what deal they can do as I would like to keep my k800i. They offered me £15 for 200mins/500 texts or £20 for 400min/1,000 texts both on a month-to-month contract. Doesn't sound too bad so I've taken the £15 offer for now. They don't do R/O minutes now which is a shame.

MB get the N95 8GB or at least try it, i think you'll be very impressed, i'd say get the n82 but you'd have to wiat since tis not really available right now...

Huddy, IMHO i don't think thats that great if your keeping your phone... As stated above i pushed and used the i'm not get a subsidised phone off you guys line, managed £5 per month for 340 texts or 170 minutes or mixture of the two; 1 min = 2 texts etc...

For £12.5 i could have got 900 texts or 450 mins or mixture of the two.

And finally for 16.25 i could get 1800 tetxs or 900 mins or a mix per month.

Thats with flext so it generally works out slightly worse than fixed tarriffs, but i get more flexibility. If you push i can see why you can get what you've got for £15 for £10 a month.... I'm not about the value of o2's tarriffs anymore i remember when i was with them for £10 a month a few years back with 200 mins and 500 texts or something like that i'm sure! (albeit i think the mins may have been off peak).

To be honest it was just clunky and totally un-modable, the camera wasn't all that great out of the box either despite being 5mp :/

It picked up my email but it wasn't very readable and I know that if I go with the Dual I will definately be able to read emails and integrate with Outlook without any issues.

I will look at the N95 Alex but I don't need a media phone really and have hardly used any of the functions on the m3100, I'm really for a PDA style phone which is also compact and bijou.

N95 maybe a media phone but its also a very capable smartphone, the only reason its got all the media features is to attract a larger market (i don't really like them, the 5mp camera isn't my thing). But what else it does is fabulous. Its small(er than most), has wi-fi and 3g, and a some pretty decent software + OS to boot. Yes its got GPS but i dont really see that as a selling point again myself, but its handy to have maybe sometimes... I think you'll be suprised by the N95 8Gb the only reason i mention the 8GB (ie probably trying to be a media phone) is becuase they've totally updated the N95, its got a half decent battery life, its MUCH quicker, and its built a lot better. Otherwise look at the E51/N82 reviews...
