View Full Version : A batch of new Kitchen Appliances

Last weekend, I went on the lookout for some new kitchen appliances.

We'd been without a toaster and a toastie maker for a while as the previous ones we purchased had both broken, which was hardly surprising as they were spur of the moment purchases when we were at Tesco and were part of the 'value' product range. A toaster for three quid and a toastie maker for a fiver were never going to last long but we kept the receipt and when we took them back, we were informed that they were no longer made and offered refunds!

Anyway, back to last weekend.

LMF and I were in Tesco purchasing some Heinz Soup (the Beef Broth is amazing) and decided to take a look and see if they had any better toasters as I was fed up slapping the grill on if I fancied some toast.

They didn't.

So we went to Comet.

What a range of kitchen appliances they have! If I had a fetish for such items then I'd have been in seventh heaven and no doubt would have embarrassed myself in public. Luckily I don't have any kind of electrical appliance fetish so all was well.

I bought a Breville PT15 Toaster.
http://www.ukrm.org/feek/toaster.jpg

Digital toasting status indicator
Extra long, variable width bread slots
Integral bun warming rack
High lift mechanism
Variable browning control and reheat facility
Frozen bread setting and mid-cycle cancel
Stainless steel finish
Removable crumb tray
Cord storage
Non slip feet

It's got a row of LEDs on it which count down until your toast is ready and then when they've all gone out, up pops the toast! It has a digital setup from 1 to 9 for adjusting brown-ness and it has a wicked lever on the left which pops a couple of metal struts up for warming croissants or buns. Fan-toasting-tastic.

We also needed a new toastie maker. I bought a Breville TR52
http://www.ukrm.org/feek/toastie.jpg

Clean hinge design
Pop-out removable plates for easy cleaning
Cut and seal system for large and small slices
Dishwasher safe and non-stick coated plates
Makes two rounds of deep filled toasties
Rapid heat up and high temperature makes golden brown sandwiches
Vertical storage and cord wrap to save on space
Brushed stainless steel finish
Power on and ready to cook indicators
Non slip feet for safety

And finally we needed a new George Foreman grill. Our old one had practically no non-stick left on it and was a bit old and knackered. I bought a George Foreman 12205 Next Grilleration Health Grill with removable plates.
http://www.ukrm.org/feek/george.jpg

A large 645 cm squared grilling surface
Features a new innovative grill design with removable, dishwasher safe plates
Oversized LED readouts for variable temperature control and timer
Improved heat distribution and contact grilling allows you to cut your cooking time in half
Cool touch ergonomic handles for easy removal and insertion of grill plates
Grill channels carry run off grease and fat into a separate tray
New George Tough dishwasher safe plate coating
It's a lean mean fat reducing grilling machine part of the Next Grilleration!

Mrs. Feek was very pleased with all of these items, specifically the fact that the toastie maker and the George Foreman grill have removable bits for either putting in the dishwasher or putting in a bowl of hot soapy water in the sink to clean.

So it's taken a week but I've now sampled items cooked in all three of these new appliances and I have to say that they're all great! I've had burgers and sausages from the grill, toast from the toaster and this evening I completed the set and had a cheese toastie from the toastie maker.

They all get thumbs up from the Feek family for ease of use, quality of cooked products and the ability to keep 'em clean.

Yeah cheese and ham ;)

It was sooo tasty, i like to put a little butter on the outside and it makes it crisp up golden and delicious.

They don't have bread on both sides, so it's a toastie. A croque monsieur (madame if you add an egg on top) is just one piece of bread with ham and cheese on top :)

Not according to at least the first six recipies Google comes up with when you type croque monsieur into it

edit: maybe you're right - I guess it just depends where you go. :) As long as you use emmental cheese though! ;) It's better in the oven!

That aside and back on topic, some cool purchases there, and great as you say that you can remove the plates for easy cleaning, I like that toaster and toastie machine - I really don't like GF grills but as you said it does what you want it so it's fab!

So when you making me dinner?! :D

Kelly has a George Foreman grill she fetched from her Mam's recently so I cooked my steak in it on Saturday night, cooked it perfectly.
Yesterday I had venison steaks cooked on it for tea, served with Asda 8p noodles - classy :D

That must be a huge bonus feature. The toastie maker my parents have is rather old (easily 15 years old now), and the trays are non-removable. Makes it a real PITA to keep the thing clean, especially as the top only opens out to a 90 degree angle.

I love making paninis and ciabatta sandwiches in our toastie machine - it's about 25 years old but it still works well - love 'em! Dammit I'm hungry now!

Stan, they do a basic steak ok, but they don't cook the meat well IMO and dries it out too much for my liking - it is healthier I guess, but I like flavour over health :p

The steak was 28 days hung so I didn't want to ruin it by overcooking it - it was barely singed. Cooking it for longer (rare) may well dry it out a bit but it did blue fine. I did rub oil on both sides before cooking it, I wasn't using it for health reasons, more for the convenience factor.

I'm pleased the George Forman is working OK for you, I heard reports that the model with the removable plates didn't get as hot as the other models, there are lots of disappointed reports on Amazon. But I might consider upgrading ours now :)

Fair enough I didn't realise they got hot enough to cook steak properly - as you say though it's probably a lot more convenient. I know you like your meat cooked the correct way (blue) :D

Yeah, mine's the same. I had it at Uni and it's just a complete bitch to clean. Would love one of those press ones like Sam has, so I could do paninis in it. Mmmmm!!!

Well I had a £30 Argos voucher that I didn't know what to do with, so I went in and got a Breville Panini toaster like Sam's yesterday. Last night I realised that it could also do cheese on toast too because it has a floating plate that you can hover above to make things on bread melt. We have no grill on our crappy old over, so I was delighted.

Had a nomtastic lunch today too.

So, thanks to Sam/Feek for inspiring me :)
