My beautiful Courtney died last night aged 14.

She was a very loving little cat. When the children were babies if they woke and cried she'd run up the stairs before me so that by the time I got there they would be cooing at her as she sat next to them. I used to call her Nanny then.

When people ask why I chose her I always tell them when I was shown the litter one little skinny kitten tottered over to me as if she knew me and that she chose me instead.

She was diagnosed as in kidney failure a few months back and was on tablets to keep her happy, and she was. I was lucky to have those extra few months with her.

She went out for a walk yesterday and died suddenly in a neighbours garden. It was very quick and she looked very peaceful.

I love you little Courtney puss and I'm very honoured you chose me to look after you. I only hope I did you justice.

I am not looking for sympathy here but I want the whole world to know what a damn good cat she was.

Thanks all.

Kids are very upset. Courtney was older than the two youngest so she'd always been there as far as they were concerned.

Was just remembering how I once caught Kai, my eldest, and Courtney under the counter in the kitchen eating cheese when they were both about 2. Courtney had knocked it off the sideboard, he'd unwrapped it and they were both sharing it!

Awww, poor Courtney, she sounds like a lovely cat.
I remember how cut up I was when my Thomas had to go, I still miss him.

Sound like she was well loved and I'm sure you all have many happy memories of her.

God she would have loved all this fuss! I was forever finding her out on the street rolling on her back for attention off strangers like a little hussy!

I lost my cat in february this year due to kidney problems, was so sad and I think that was the most I've cried in a long while. He loved the garden and when we buried him we bought Orange, Brown and White flowers to plant over where we buried him because he was a tabby.

*hugs*

RIP Courtney

We're building a bench under the tree. Beck says he wants to sit there and remember her.

Sorry to hear about your puss. I'm feeling lucky in a way because I thought I was going to have to take her to have her put down once she got worse but her little heart gave out instead. She ended up just dying of old age. To have to take them in and make a decision to end their lives is far far worse and even though you know you're doing it for the best the guilt is awful.

I'm sorry to hear about Courtney but you are right, it is a small mercy when they die of old age but it is definitely better. I've had a couple of pets put down and a couple die of old age and it is much less traumatic to just find they have keeled over of their own accord. At the very least you know she had a good life. :)

I think that's a lovely idea about the bench, Dawn. When my rabbit died when I was about 12, we planted a hawthorn tree where he was buried, and I used to go and sit down there when I felt sad and talk to him. It's still there, and I always think of him when I go down that end of my parents' garden.

Agreed with the bench idea.

When one of my brother's cats died he buried in his garden and made 'The Robert Bond Memorial Garden' area, which has a little patio and some nice lights, a few chairs and some pretty flowers.

Unfortunately Bob's sister, Vic, likes to eat the flowers :p

Roberta

Hee hee. That last bit tickled me!

I was going to plant flowers but they'd be under the rope swing so would get trampled! I would have done a cairn but again, it would be in the way. The bench will be perfect for Miss Puss.

It's been an odd day. I keep expecting to see her outside the door and she always knew the sound of my car and came running up the street when I came home from work. I'm having to alter all my routine and I miss her. My beautiful puss.

Awww :( They leave a huge gaping great hole in your life when they're gone, and it takes a lot of getting used to. It's hard to explain to someone who's never had a much loved pet before, but I think a lot of us understand what you're going through. I don't even know if you do get used to it. I still have a cry when I think of the cats we've loved and lost over the years.

I miss my 2 cats to absolute bits, but I know they're still there at my parents waiting for a cuddle when I next go back. Don't know what I'll do when Olly dies. He's my cat (although he loves my brother more) and I've had him since I was 13. Similar with Rolo. I adopted her from a friend when I left Uni. Each both have their own individual characters and there will never be any other cats quite like them.

*blub*

*more big hugs to Dawn* xxxxx
